How do you guys know what's the native resolution the show was made? I only rely on the seeder count and hope it's the right one,
but autists mainly:
>"I only download highest quality" faggots who doesnt even know what's an upscale
>lel poorfag buy more hard drives

are on the rise so I want a more reliable source.
>>
>>133958926
Simulcast streamers get 1080 only and downscale it with cheap shitty algorythms. HS 1080 is better than 720 no matter what resolution show was made in.
>>
>>133959052
Unless the show was animated above 720p your opinions are just as hot as Shana.
>>
>>133959225
Judging by your pic "hot" can mean 3 things so I'm confused if you meant that he's right or wrong.
>>
There is no reliable source beyond hearsay/"I know someone who knows someone on the production team."

If its a shitty streamrip just download whatever you're most comfortable with. If it's a BD worry about it a little and ultimately just download whatever you're most comfortable with.

You can normally see if a show is around 480, 720 or 1080. Getting resolutions in between is guesswork.
Then there's these pretty pictures for quantification.
>>
I download several releases and compare each episode manually.
>>
>>133958926
I just go with my gut, which means usually 720
>>
I've been going exclusively 1080p on shows like OPM and it look noticeably more crisp on my flatscreen.

If the show is broadcast that way then it will benefit from the boost in resolution. Period.

>If the show is broadcast that way then it will benefit from the boost in resolution.

Also called native resolution. the question which I was asking how to find out in the first place.
>>
>>133958926
I don't worry about what resolution the show was made at, and go for the highest res available. In some cases, this may mean having an upscale, but so what?
>>
but fansubbers only release in 720p
>>
>>133959796
Well I can't afford to buy more HDD and my 8TB is almost full. I also do what you say downloading the highest possible res but yeah I eats up the disc space.
>>
I'm no expert, but what usually happens is:
>While the anime is airing
720p
>Blu-Ray release
1080p

Some groups release "1080p" while the anime is airing, which usually turns out to be a 720p upscale.
I can't be assed to check every individual release, so i just grab 720p while it's airing, and if I enjoyed it enough, grab the BD releases in 1080p when it's out.

>>133959846
Do you not delete eps after you watch them? Do some cleaning, a dirty hard drive leads to a dirty soul.
>>
>>133959925
>deleting episodes after watching them
Might as well start streaming, casual filth.
>>
>>133959846
I manage to keep a decent amount of space on my 8TB RAID. Not indiscriminately downloading every show every season and deleting stuff I don't really want to keep helps.
>>
>>133959925
I can't do that to a collection, It just feels wrong if you know what I'm saying ,I would rather not download the whole show (that I would rewatch after sometime) rather have an incomplete collection .
Also its extremely hard to download again if sometime has passed.
I even back up every show I ahve so my 8tb archive is actually 16tb.
>>
>>133959981
It's better to delete the broadcast version and download the higher quality BD version when it comes out.

>It just feels wrong if you know what I'm saying
This is the kind of sentiment that leads to hoarding. If you don't want to buy more HDDs you'll have to face reality and decide what's worth keeping.
>>
>>133959980
I download shows with archiving as much as possible in mind + old BDs hand drawn shows really bloated.

>>133960063
Yes I keep shows with hoarding in mind. I also delete broadcast episodes once BDs come out except Shaft ones because fuck them.

I've tested both 1080 and 720p OPM downloads and the 720p version is definitely smoother. Maybe my madVR settings are shit? I'm using HorribleSubs and the latest stable version of KCP with very few settings tweaks.

Is there a reason for this other than poorly configured madVR?
>>
>haven't replaced the TV versions with BD versions on my external
How long does it take or BDs to finish depending on the series anyway? Is there even a set time? I guess for a 13 episode series, 6 months would be correct, but I don't even know. Twice that for a two cour show? Is that how it works?

Not that that even matters now that I think about it, when the BDs get released in Japan has nothing to do with when the fansubbers decide to actually sub them and release them.
I wish we had some kind of notification service to find out when a show's BD volumes have all been subbed.
>>
>>133960189
I usually undergo cryogenic sleep then when I wake up the BD batch should up.

6 months sounds about right, but yea, it's unknown when people will actually upload them. I'm still waiting on volume 2 of Shimoneta.
