Why is OPM so successful when most other attempts at super hero manga never really last long?
>>
>>133952456
Because it's not actually a super hero manga.
>>
Because the general audience loves invincible protagonists who can solve everything.
Just look at SAO and Mahouka.
And don't even try to deny that OPM has that much in common with SAO. Even if it's being "self-aware" about it, the core principle is the same.
Hell, being self-aware about it just means that you get the general audience that loves invincible protagonists, and a portion of the guys who shit all over SAO/Mahouka for taking themselves seriously.
>>
Because it's a parody of heroes.
>>
>>133952456
Because it makes fun of capes.

Japan loves making fun of the west and anything western, especially Americans.

You know what they call a lame, unfunny joke? An American joke.
>>
>>133952456
Because it's literally a commentary on typical shonen. Too bad many of the reddit/tumblr plebs can't even understand that, thus creating one of the shittiest fanbases I have ever seen.
>>
>>133952563
>"self-aware"
>putting self-aware in quotations
You do get that the entire show is one big satire? That it's not just self-awareness, but that the entire premise of the show is showing the faults in the super hero genre? It's an entirely different genre from shit-tier shows like SAO
>>
>>133952563
>this butthurt over a comedy

Did somebody in a powerlevel thread hurt your feelings by saying saitama could beat up your favorite character?
>>
>>133952456
OPM anime is a flop though.

Honestly, it really sucks I can't enjoy OPM this season, I'm just going to have to wait until the fucking annoying-ass fanbase dies down, and then I can start watching.
Makes me angry cause I have been reading ONE's ver./Murata's ver since the threads started here on /a/.
Now these anime threads are such garbage
>muh TATSUMAKI vs. FUBUKI
I really can't stand shipping fags on /a/, there's literally no romance in the fucking series.
>>
>>133952657
It's basically like TTGL was, very self aware and taking shots at a ton of genre cliches while playing a lot of stuff straight as well.

OPM is the most fun I've had watching a shounen battle show in a long time.
>>
>>133952751
>literally no romance
Fubuki's body is a man's romance
>>
>>133952818
Honestly fuck off, you didn't care about her before the anime. There's was little to none Fubukifags before this adaption started.
>>
>>133952563
>SAO
You need to read the manga or the webcomic before comparing OPM to SAO or Mahouka. SAO/Mahouka is just a power fantasy. Mahouka is somewhat self aware, but it gets too stupid.
OPM is about what it means to be a hero

Onii Sama is good at everything, and everyone wants some of his D.

Kirito is your average self insert who climbs to the top and becomes way to important for his own good. Oh, he's somehow roped into a dark and edgy conspiracy where his waifu is kidnapped.

Saitama on the other hand is incredibly strong on the get go, but is on the lower end of society.
King is a weak otaku who's afraid. He has no skill, no combat capabilities, and no qualities that'll make him a hero, yet he is considered a true hero.
Saitama is the opposite of King. An absurd amount of power, yet no recognition from the masses. Saitama's quest isn't about becoming stronger like all the shit animes you watch, it's about using his power to become better than just a brute.

>>133952751
Anime fags are late for everything. I try to talk to people about OPM but they don't want a discussion. When the anime hit, NOW they want a discussion.
>>
>most attempts at superhero manga never really last long
But that's wrong, most last more than 10 volumes at least, OPM isn't even that long yet
>>
>>133952865
>Anime fags are late for everything. I try to talk to people about OPM but they don't want a discussion. When the anime hit, NOW they want a discussion.

I admit I'm in this camp. A bunch of people told me.
>You have to read the manga. Look at these fucking keyframe quality panels.
>OPM is getting animated. Get hype. Going to be so fucking awesome!

And I kind of brushed it off, just because it felt like it was some rinse and repeat shounen with a single gimmic like most of them and I'd pretty much washed my hands of all that. Then I saw the preair first episode and wasn't that impressed. But it made me interested enough to watch the first three episodes. That got me hooked, the manga, webcomic, the whole enchilada.

The adaptation team has done a killer job all things considered too. It's been awhile since I've seen this much love poured into a series.
>>
>>133952856
Has she even shown up in the anime? I thought she showed up after Boros, who should still be a few episodes away
>>
>>133952456
Tiger & Bunny is ongoing.
>>
>>133953019
No she hasn't, but I'm sure that dude just didn't like the Tatsumaki hype when it consumed the threads and decided to look into the series more and saw that there was another girl in the manga, and clung to the opposing side like an idiot.
>>
>>133952865
King is a weak otaku who's afraid. He has no skill, no combat capabilities, and no qualities that'll make him a hero, yet he is considered a true hero.
So basically,

a Mr. Satan rip-off?
>>
>>133953227

>>
>>133953019
>>133953056
You niggas dumb
>>
>>133953263

>>
>>133953448
You mean Buu? How was Mr. Satan responsible in anyway for Buu?
>>
>>133952563
Yeah, no. You missed the point of OPM. Saitama has gone beyond the pinnacle of powerful and now needs to question why he even bothers to be a hero anymore. Have you ever seen a story with a similar premise before?
>>
>OPM
>long
what

It's short. You can read the entire thing in an evening. The webcomic too.
>>
>>133953227
Mr Satan is actually a bona fide normie fighter. He could pull several buses, smash 14 concrete tiles as well as leaping at a height of a several storey building (with sommersaults, nonetheless). Hell, if he could at least do proper training, he could even fly and shoot ki out of his palm
>>
>>133952751
Cmon man, I read the ONE version of the Boros and Garou arc and I'm not nearly as salty as you are about the show. People like you just can't stand the fact that it has gotten mainstream popularity since you liked it "before it was cool". So now the fanbase is cancer. Believe it or not, there have always been shipping fags, it wasn't just when the anime came out.
>>
>>133953478
No Satan, no Evil Buu
No Evil Buu, no Super Buu
No Super Buu, no Kid Buu
>>
We're running out of popular manga to get adapted and the fanbase made more cancerous.

>>
>>133952456
>when most other attempts at super hero manga never really last long?
Lurk more or fuck off /co/cksucker, it's clear you only know of one or two other capeshit manga besides OPM.

Do you see this, mods? Vermin like him are what you're condoning by allowing a dozen threads for this show at a time.
>>
>>133952751
>it really sucks I can't enjoy OPM this season, I'm just going to have to wait until the fucking annoying-ass fanbase dies down, and then I can start watching.

How exactly are they physically preventing you from watching the anime?

Watch it and don't participate in the threads.

I swear most people on /a/ don't know how to deal with their favorite mangos/LNs getting popular due to anime adaptations.
>>
>>133953659
Yeah, and No Satan = Earth is destroyed by Fat Buu

You should be blaming the guys who shot Satan, not Satan himself.
>>
>>133953739

>>

One Punch Man is only for people who are
1. Educated
2. Patient
3. Attentive, and
4. Analytic
One Punch Man rewards people who are intelligent enough to understand it. It doesn't make it easy to follow because it's not for the average anime fan who need everything fucking explained to them like they're goddamn children.

And that's why it's probably the best anime in the past 20-30 years, hands down. It's the first real anime for intellectuals since LoGH...though honestly, I think it might surpass even that.

If you didn't like it, that means you're just not mature enough to really "Get it". In short, grow up, kid. And I'm not joking.

No, it wasn't. I don't understand people who say TTGL was a parody. It wasn't. Acknowledging something and parodying it are different. TTGL acknowledges the kind of show it is, yes, but it revels in it, it doesn't do commentary on it or parody it in the least.

OPM is a straight up parody.

One Punch Man doesn't just provide good action and comedy, it is also a heavy subversion in regards to fanservice.

Rather than sexualizes female characters, it instead heavily sexualizes male characters, making for a more progressive and inviting to the female audience. It shows the author is not only talented working to break the gender bias present in most anime.

This is also seen in how Genos plays the Damsel in Distress role for the series and his affections towards Saitama. The author could have easily made it some female superhero who becomes Saitama apprentice and bogged down the entire series with pointless male otaku wish fulfillment and power fantasies but they don't and that's something to be appreciated because it makes the entire thing more inclusive to any audience in comparison to something like One Piece, which converts all it's females into jokes or hourglasses to be ogled.

Oda could learn a great deal about making a better manga from OPM.
>>
>>133954594

Jesus christ assblasted autists like you need to be treated in some way.
In what possible way do other audience members of the same series affect how you experience the series? How can you not just look at a series on its own merits and enjoy it by yourself. If you have such a problem with the fanbase as a whole then just simply stop going in OPM threads, holy shit it's literally that easy.
You're a retard for letting the fanbase affect you that much in the first place but it's even worse because it's far past the point where it's out of your control, you're clearly inflicting this pain upon yourself by giving the fanbase even one tiny iota of your attention.
Eat a bag of dicks.
>>
>>133954689
No, you have to start at the full regiment and stay at it.
The training only works if you're not /fit/ yet, because it's pretty hard for the average person and you have to do it EVERY DAY without fail, the main barrier to overcome is your mental and physical limits. Saitama surpassed what his body and mind said he could, and now he has surpassed everyone in the world.
>>
>>133952456
OPM is successful because of it's writing. I can come up with more reasons, but that's basically it. The reason the Harry Potter series was succesful wasn't because it was about young wizards, or wizards in a contemporary setting. That shit's been done. It was successful because it did that shit better than other shit had done that shit.

OPM is successful because it does parody/satire of superhero/shonen tropes better than other series have done parody/satire of superhero/shonen tropes.

To get to the meat of it, it's the characters. That's really the heart of it. I am firm believer that characters are the true heart of any story. Give me characters I like, and I'll watch them do even the most boring mundane shit. Give characters I can't stand (Hi, Micheal Bay), and the shit going on around them, no matter how fantastical, means fuck-all to me.

OPM works because of it's characters. Saitama works because, outside of being this unbelievably strong and nigh-invincible god... he's just an average everyday dude. It takes some skill to make a character like him relatable, but he absolutely is. It sounds weird to say it, but I think the secrest to OPM is that, while the story itself is satire, it takes its characters seriously. Even in their ridiculousness, it still treats them fully as actual characters and that's what set's them apart.
>>
>tfw people I know start watching it
>a few talk to me and say "oh what did you think of this week?"

SAITAMA" threads on /a/ now, it's an absolute disgrace to a great gag series.

Not that anon, but I have mixed feelings about it as well. While I'm happy OPM is getting the spotlight it deserves, you can't deny that the popularity lured out even the deepest basement crawlers. When we had less threads the quality for every one of them were much higher (like the time people calculated flashy flash's speed, good shit) than the 90% shitposting and baiting threads you see now.
Yes, there has always been shitshipping or powerlevel discussions in opm, but never to this extend shipperfags or shounenfags make daily threads about it, it has become much harder to pick out the quality threads out if the garbage.

1. Interesting new characters
2. Good world building
3. Situation humor
4. Fun
5. Good action
6. Good dialog
7. The reader is in on the joke, making it fun for the reader.
8. Fast paced.
9. Well placed tension.

A big thing about Japan is having training or studying in anime and manga. Fighters train and students study. It is done ad-nauseam. Saitama makes the idea of that into a joke. He doesn't need to train anymore, it is out of the way. It leaves all this room for other ideas that you don't see from anime and manga. And it gets right to the good stuff.
There is nothing wrong with seeing a character grow. In fact OPM has those characters.

To be fair, the Garou Arc is the one arc where you get to understand what the whole thing is about. Before that it's mostly comical, but then Garou and the Monster Association show a lot of interesting stuff and actually gives a clear idea of what the Hero Association is about. I just love Garou Arc so much, I hope the changes in Murata's version are going to be good enough.

Because it's comedic first and super hero second. Saitama's ridiculous contrast with the characters and word around him is a really interesting concept.

All the other characters look like they belong in a more serious series, and yet they are weaker than the guy who looks like he should be the comic relief sidekick.

A lot of super hero stuff takes itself too seriously and would never have an apathetic and funny looking guy like Saitama as the MC.

Not to mention the other heroes are also very interesting and unique characters.

I cannot understand the shipping of Saitama and Tatsumaki, however. They clearly do not like each other and I'm positive that it's only because people are attracted to her because she's a "legal loli," which is a gross concept to me.

Saitama and Tanktop Girl is where it's at.

Saitama and Tatsumaki have exactly 100% more intimate moments together though

It's not. Only tumblrinas, redditors and neo-/a/ like this shit. Japan has better taste and like usagis and Gundam.

Going by the "it's dangerous" back and forth, I'd place them as a married couple several years in when they're starting to get sick of each other.

You don't read the webcomic, huh.

Nevermind the webcomic, it's obvious he hasn't even read the manga considering Tats and Saitama already met at the S-Class meeting.

They're probably an anime-only fan.
