i still get nerd shivers thinking about it. it was beautiful. tanabe's moon scene tugged at the old heartstrings harder than pretty much anything. they really make you love the characters

planetes is not just one of my favorite anime, it's one of my favorite science fiction stories.

No, it's not. It's a noteworthy anime, but not even close to best. The Girl That Leapt Through Time, for example, was much better. Also for mature anime try Tokyo Godfathers, also better than this.

Its in my top 3 favorites right now together with FLCL and Hyouge Mono. Its kind of hard to directly compare it to other shows because its realistic science fiction instead of mecha, robots, cyborgs, and action. I kind of want to go re-watch it now.
