Anyone remember this show?
That's not what I meant, anon, not what I meant at all.
I'm talking about on here. There will come the season, and discussion will be hampered by the person, troll or genuine, who says 'who gives a fuck about this, it's just a generic harem'.
Let's take a trip back in time.
>Hey here's a show that never finished, a complete show that's a retelling of the original show, and a bastardized continuation that is technically not a continuation of either of the shows
>Have fun advertising this!
I just recently found my cassettes of Tenchi Universe while rearranging my office. The only Tenchi series worth watching, In my opinion. Had a finished story, some good episodes, two of the three Tenchi movies follow off of it, and the story actually concludes with best girl winning. 10/10
The original OVAs were great but everything was rather... rushed. Like, in one episode they show the girls in a floating onsen. When did they get a floating onsen? How? They didn't have it last episode. Like most of the stuff in the OVA, you just have to roll with it because it seems like half the story was never told except on like fucking radio dramas or some shit. Plus the story never actually goes anywhere. Just sort of mulls around.
Tenchi in Tokyo was absolute shit and nearly killed the franchise. So was GXP.
of course I remember my childhood
... hmm... I thought it was the carnival episode when the floating onsen appeared? They went to another place for the onsen in ep 3 or 4. Then Kagato came... oh shit, that's right. He came to them in that floating onsen, didn't he? I guess Ayeka did it after they went to the one in ep 3 or 4.
>When did they get a floating onsen? How?
Nope, it was Ryoko. The Databook said that Washu developed the technology to build the thing, but it was Ryoko who built it. This is why the entryways say "women" and "tenchi" respectively because there was suppose to be only one guy who gets to use it.
I'm ready as fuck for the new season.
It's a long shot, but maybe it'll spur someone to translate the GXP novels.
I have the McFarlane Ryoko, and the EB Games repaint.
Why is Tenshin such a perma-virgin? Other harem protags usually have a reason to reject the girls (usually because they are in love with worst girl), but the girls just jump into Tenshin's dick all the time and he refuses them for no fucking reason. WHY?
He doesn't reject any of them, he just has to wait until marriage.
Not for any space religion reason, but because he's in a precarious political situation.
Once that's out of the way, he goes to town.
This isn't goddamn Love Hina.
My old password used to be washu with some numbers slapped on.
I still remember the toonami special that they had for Valentine's Day that was something "black hearts special" focused on evil women and ryoko was the main one.
They were given the funding for Ai! Tenchi Muyo to try to promote tourism for the town that Tenchi takes place in. Ryoko's cave? You could go there.
While Ai! was a shitshow, it showed there was still interest in the franchise.
That, combined with the fact that Kajishima has been adding to the universe for the last 15 years, meant that a new series looked like a good decision.
More Misaki soon, that's going to be fun.
I wonder how they're going to explain Mikami dropping her old woman disguise?
Anyone who didn't watch Tenchi on a VHS tape is a newfag.
Which is the fucking series that used to air on Toonami!? It's like the beginning of the beginning, Tenchi was just some shrine kid, then all these women starting showing up, then it became epic space battles n shit?
There are too many shitty spin offs I can't remember the name of the one I want.
The Tenchi Muyo OVAs., there are 3 seasons, Toonami aired the first two, and the last episode of the third on the April Fools day. Also in the same canon is Tenchi Muyo GXP, and Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, about Tenchi's little brother.
Toonami also aired Tenchi Universe, which was a tv series in Japan, and Tenchi In Tokyo, the boring one with the mary sue.
Every second that Kiyone is on the screen is like a balsam for my heart.
No, that's Seina's oldest son by Kiriko.
Kenshi is a bit older than that.
When Kenshi was born, Sasami was still in school. When Seina's son was born, she was already looking like Tsunami.
Friendly reminder that Hentai Tenchi will never be finished.
>I hate how they used the clips from the spinoff along with the OVA to make it look like one epic show.
That still upsets me to this day. It looks like a great, long show where everything is drawn out. Instead we have the OAV and then the "no the OAV isn't the story I wanted to tell so lets redo it for the TV series" TV series.
The same shit happened to El Hazard where they kept throwing everything they had built up in the OAVs into the garbage to REIMAGE it in the TV series to chase otaku dollars not realizing people wanted the OAV to be fleshed out.
But the TV show was better. The only real shit was Tenchi in Tokyo. Fuck that show.
The first OAV is tight and sums out its plot arc the second one wanders around with too much SOL until Jurai shows up.
I like the first TV series too. I just want more OAV that isn't what the 3rd one gave us. So it's one of those shows from my formative years in anime that I'll never be satisfied with ever.
Think it might be the OVAs then. I vaguely remember checking out Tenchi Universe and that wasn't it. I know those ones about his brother are in the same universe but the episodes I saw were gay as fuck.
I'll check them out and see exactly which ones I mean. Thanks guys.
The OVAs were incomplete and didn't have much story to it. The TV show had all that and wrapped up fairly nicely. About as nicely as you'd expect from a harem anime.
I will say that if there were more OVAs, they'd be better. And we saw what happened when it finally got a continuation.
For it's time, the Tenchi Dub was top tier since anime was incredibly niche back then. Like back of the comic store video room niche. Compared to now though, it definitely shows some age.
>comic store video room
This takes me back. There was a store that you could rent video games and anime dvds from. My friends and I would grab a bunch of games and anime, spend the night, and play and watch whatever all night.
The voices themselves are wonky, I'll never be able to get Washu's nasally voice out of my head, but the performances were great.
Ryoko is smooth and seductive, Ayeka's accent and tone say princess with every word, and Mihoshi sounds air headed, but not retarded.
The dub for OVA 3 is shit, that's true enough.
But OVA 1+2, Universe and Tokyo were fine.
God damn I wish I could have came into this thread earlier.
I find it fascinating that a lot of fans don't particularly care for the show itself since there's unfinished OVAs, shitty spinoffs, etc.
But the characters were so great. That's what kept me watching. I love Ryoko.
Yes I remember this fucking shit, I knew this one idiot ultraweeb who was fucking obsessed with it and probably jerks off to it to this very day.
This person is also exactly why I can't stomach the show at all. Even now, just seeing these fucking pictures, the scent of sweat and moldy breadcrumbs stuck in folds of fat comes back to me.
Shit is more offensive to me than the anime adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul, at least I've yet to meet a fan of that show who smells as horrible.
First Tenchi thing I saw was one of the movies in the pathetically small anime section of the local VHS rental store. I had no fucking idea what was going on. Exact same thing happened with Ranma 1/2.
CHOOSE! LOLI WASHU OR GROWN WASHU
YOU MAY ONLY HAVE ONE!
I remember a mom and pop video store with a nice collection of "Japan Animation" full of VHS and Betamax's.
>Mfw watching Akira, Golden boy, Macross, and G-Taste for the first time.
>CHOOSE! LOLI WASHU OR GROWN WASHU
>YOU MAY ONLY HAVE ONE!
Washu might have been a midget, but by modern standards she wasn't loli at all.
She is a milf in both versions.
>Can she have children safely in short form?
She can have children without getting pregnant at all, you might say.
That confused me a lot as a kid.
Not to mention at that point I didn't understand the concept of shows being made in other countries from years ago, being broadcast on tv.
I thought everything was current and made in america.
>Starting Monday, July 3rd
I don't feel well. 15 years already now.
>tfw only 22
>tfw nostalgia of Toonami after school and when it aired at night
>tfw nostalgia of watching .hack//sign during the saturday night block parties
>tfw nostalgia of watching adult swim when it first started
>tfw all this nostalgia makes me feel old as shit
Literally exact same scenario here anon.
I always got weird vibes while watching .hack and it kind of freaked me out.
Damn I need to rewatch Tenchi. It was one of the main reasons that I grew up to love anime.
Universe and Tokyo are separate from the OVA canon, and each other.
OVA 1, 2, 3.
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari
Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure is also canon to the above, but only tangently related. Watch before GXP.
Universe and the Movies are their own continuity. The characterization is iffy, but it's still a good show.
Tokyo, Pretty Sammy, and Ai! Tenchi Muyo are all separate and regarded as poor.
The creator, Kajishima, releases doujins of information and stories in the OVA canon. Some of it's background info, some is stuff he couldn't get animated.
There are also novels for GXP that Kajishima wrote after he was disappointed with the way Nabeshin handled it. They trump the anime as canon, but are untranslated.
Do you have any questions?
I only watched the first few episodes so I barely remember anything about it, but mainly it was just the way they presented to story I think, particularly how the real world was presented. One image that sticks out in my mind was the MC's little sister(?) being hooked up to a machine/computer and being trapped inside the virtual world. I must have been 8 or 9 whenever the show first started airing and shit like that just freaked me out as a kid.
That's right, and don't forget the three movies.
Do you remember Kiyone? Then it was probably Universe.
I remember having a thing for Kagato's dub VA when I first heard it. It was probably the only thing I've heard the guy done, and it still sticks in my memory.
Then I was exposed to Norio Wakamoto...
Kajishima posted a short doujin a few months teasing OVA 4 with a question mark at the end, and like two months ago it was confirmed that a new season was coming.
Don't know, we're getting info on the 28th.
Wait, are some of those chicks from that shitty 5 minute episode series that came out? I remember I watched the first 4 episodes of that bullshit and it turned out to be generic as hell. I pray none them join the main cast in OVA 4
No, that's just a site promotional image.
Notice that two of the Ai! girls are there too, which are going to be resigned to history, and a girl from El Hazard, and I'm not sure it has any connections to Tenchi other than Kajishima.
I got to meet Petrea and Matt last year at a con in south Florida. They were both awesome and super enthusiastic. Both were super glad the show still has such a dedicated following and were very appreciative of the fans. It was hilarious because Petrea literally had a gaggle of fans following her around everywhere just to get a chance to talk to her.
pic related. Got my old-as-dirt wallscroll signed by them
>Petrea Burchard only voiced Ryoko and a character off Serial Lain in her voice acting career
What the fuck even? Did she refuse to do OVA 3? I was hyped up for that confusing mess JUST so I could hear her voice again.
Tenchi in Tokyo was a deconstruction of the harem genre. It was literal art.
People that don't understand it aren't the intended audience.
Well lets look at each woman and see why Tenchi isn't jumping in bed with them.
Ryoko: 10,000+ yr old space demon. When they first met she kinda tried to kill him. She's a drunk, kinda violent, and sucks at cooking.
Aeyka: She's Tenchi's great Aunt, and was once betrothed to his Grandfather. Naw bruh, it just ain't happening.
Sasami: she's a loli and also Tenchi's aunt.
Washuu: Hell to the naw, that old woman is a freak.
Mihoshi: A ditz and a walking disaster area.
Kiyone: She's a lesbian and sees Tenchi as a kid.
Ryo-ohki: Tenchi ain't no furfucker.
Anyone that genuinely likes Tenchi in Tokyo should literally be dragged out into the street in the dead of night surrounded by niggers to get gang raped than shot.
She did other voice work but it was kinda weird oddball stuff. She did all the radio adds for a grocery store chain in southern California called Stater Brothers. She thought it was funny cause I mentioned to her at the con that I recognized her from the adds as well and nobody had ever mentioned that to her before. Idk how since her voice is super distinctive I think.
Shes also a writer now, but man Id kill to have her reprise the role someday in some fashion.
I challenge anyone to watch the Tenchi In Tokyo episode "Stupid Cupid" and not die laughing. I get why people don't like it but the hate is generates is way more than it deserves.
Sick comeback, bro.
A friend of mine lent me some tenchi muyo manga when we were on a camping trip for the boy scouts when I was very young. That was my first chinese cartoon.
I didn't actually get into it until I was in college though.
Dr. Clay and the first appearance of Lady Tokimi.
In the OVAs, Mihoshi was considerably more competent and dedicated to her work. She just had problems with collateral damage and overly detailed work. No sooner than she comes to stay at the Misaki household that she succeeds at earning her keep w/o causing trouble; even going as far as to earning a marriage blessing from Tenchi's grandfather. It wasn't until the next batch in the franchise that she was retconned into the accident-prone crybaby that she's usually seen as.
They visit the hot spring and learn about Tsunami, they babysit Tenchi's cousin or something and only Washu is competent, Ryoko gets kidnapped and replaced by a robot, and Ayeka, Sasami, and Yosho's parents visit.
Oh i remember now. Yeah OVA 2 was kinda lame. But still good in many ways. OVA 2 was when the emperor arrived and mihoshi was still crashing into the lake at least.
OVA 3...oh gawd i have no idea what they were thinking...
>even going as far as to earning a marriage blessing from Tenchi's grandfather
Let's be honest, he was giving those away.
I heard the reason she is like that is because she was arranged to get married to a man she loved, but he left her for someone else. She committed suicide and was revived by her family, which caused her current state. This tragedy was what her brother was referring too when he said he would'nt let her get hurt again. Take all of this with a grain of salt.
OVA 3 has it's share of problems, but it did a lot of stuff right too.
I absolutely love how Misaki put the fear of god into Ryoko.
I can't believe this aired on CN. I remember all the days of watching this after school along with Sailor Moon, DBZ, and eventually Hamtaro. I remember this promo though. Fuuuck.
>We'll never see anyone else from the Tenchi crew show up on Geminar and just wreck shit
Then again, the last time it looked like Ryoko was going to do anything interesting when she was attacked by the GP robots, they just hand waived her winning of screen.
>>We'll never see anyone else from the Tenchi crew show up on Geminar and just wreck shit
It is confirmed in the Doujins that the Geminar world literally worships Tokimi as their god.
...Even though it seems many worshippers have forgotten what their god even looks like and can't even recognise her when she showed up.
I think it would be a little too much for the Geminar world to have gods just adventing into their realm. Kenshi himself was already enough to make waves.
Well, maybe the Geminar girls would finally understand why Kenshi is always saying he's not that amazing.
That's Optimus Prime telling you to watch Tenchi.
What is it about Seina that leads him to be groped by Kuramitsus?
Of course! The original is one of my favourites. I want Ryoko to have her way with me.
>tfw ayeka will never rub your feet while sasami's rides your peenus weenus and ryoko licks out your booty hole, and mihoshi rubs her tits and your face and washu stands off to the side taking notes
Also save this chart with out looking closely at it, and don't open it again until after OVA 2 at least.
And download Dual, for god's sake.
Man, looking at that makes me feel like Tokimi needs a kid in her life. I mean Washu has/had Ryoko and the cabbits, Tsunami has Sasami and she popped out a bunch of seeds. Tokimi is the only one left out.
Thing is, I'm not sure Tokimi is actually part of the harem. She just hangs out.
Sasami is great, isn't she?
I always thought of it as AUs. Hell, I consider this my first true anime because for one i recognized it was from Japan and different, but really because it got me online and into anime fandom to find out why the story restarted after OVAs ended. It introduced me to the concept of AUs.
Yeah she's a really nice lady, been following her in Twitter and such...wish she got more work last I heard all she did was voice Did you know anime.
Yah, I heard that theory too, but I think it's just speculation. Kajishima was gonna write a prequel novel about Mihoshi I think, but it looks like it got canned.
Oh god, it has been 15 years since i watched this show.
Though, Mike Toole at his I Love the 90s Anime Otakon panel showed the Ryoko attacking Tenchi on the school roof scene. Everyone went nuts. Whole panel was a nostalgia fest.
>"and share a bath house"
Man the old days
Her English voice makes me hard.
it was a matter of flying her to texas to record her lines
they wouldn't pay for her air fair and the tickets would have cost more than her pay for recording all 30 lines ryoko spoke in ova 3
it's the same reason they killed off maude flanders in the last good season of the simpsons
This shit pissed me off when ADV had cast Gurren Lagann and Bandai wouldn't fly them to LA.
>Brent Weaver as Kamina
I heard they had an ADV dub promo at conventions with their cast.
I only realized she was supposed to be about Sasami's age when she's small when I re-watched after ten years.
When I was younger I thought she was just petite.
It gets laid out over OVA 2.
The old woman that runs the hotspring thought she was Sasami's age and told her to run and play while the adults did the work.
At the end of the babysitting episode, you learn that after she had her husband and child taken away from her because she didn't have any prestigious lineage, was just a student at the GXP academy, she decided she'd rather pretend to be a child than live in the cold world of adults.
Also she's insistent on being called Washu-chan, like a kid.
She has a son by Tenchi in older Kajishima doujins. I know that he ran away from home to get away from all the crazy women, became an archeologist, and uncovered the ghost of the sister of the first Emperor of Jurai, who was effectively Eve, colonizing Earth for Jurai, and proceeded to waifu said ghost.
I just wanna have sex with her. Maybe see her cute young face smiling up as she makes a mix of gagging and slurping noises on muh dick
Funi is full of jews and would rather make money instead of keeping faithful to the characters they dub.
Seriously I can see why some of the people quit. Like Domon is a dentist now and Aisha clan clan is part of a Canadian parliament.
I'm hesitant to follow this line of discussion, but it is interesting how Tenchi Muyo is operating under a functioning matriarchy, if partly due to majority rule.
To be fair, that shit gets out of hand. Voice Over gigs are quick cash. Not many plan to do it as a career, and there is more money in doing commercials and union work.
To us, Petrea Burchard is the quintessential voice of Ryoko. To Petrea Burchard, it was some gig she did in the 90's that a bunch of teenagers really love her for. And that type of thing is flattering, sure, but you can't obligate producers to not recast or actors to reprise their roles until they die.
There's something about early 90s anime that just looks so clean, especially the OVAs.
Yeah, apparently the novel does the visit to Tenchi's house different, instead of bailing before dinner they stay the night.
I just want both Ryokos to meet. It would make sense for it to happen, but I've got no clue.
I wish GXP could get a remake based off the novels. I'm still miffed that Nabeshin had to go and crap his brand of humor all over the series. Though, if I had to choose, I'd still rather have a sequel to Isekai.
More like the original that Kagato was based on. Something else from the supplemental materials.
Kagato was a defective clone of a female friend of Washu's (>>133970978 ) that ended up merging with a male clone body resembling Ryoko. It gets alluded to in the third OVA, but there's something out there that goes into more detail about this.
I would love a remake of GXP. There's something about it that makes me feel nostalgic.
Why did Funimation back in the day re-create theme songs?
>Kami Tenchi is the author persona
>When the author died, Kami Tenchi also died
Why would people wank Kami Tenchi again?
Is it because they are oldfag who an't let go of their petty ways of thinking?
The best, in English or Japanese.
Honestly I don't think Kami Tenchi is a big deal in the frame of the series, its just a detail.
Sure, he's the God of Gods, but really all he wants to do is farm carrots and fuck his wives.
I am still waiting for her to come and forcibly make me her husband, robbing banks with her would be great, everything to see that happy and greedy smile of hers.
You shut your god damn mouth you filthy mongoloid.
I have to agree with this. Although i never had a waifu. Although the closest thing i have ever had to a waifu might be Washu. But Tenchi Muyo was probably the first exposure most people on /a/ had to females in anime that acted sexual or seemed to be sexual beings.
>watched it as a kid
>they showed the first 5 ova episodes to the point that
>oh shit what the fuck whats going to happen next!
>tenchi universe starts
>what the fuck is this shit? was that really the end? why is everything reset? (I'm from the UK and I'd like to know if anyone else in UK also had this shit or did I literally miss an episode before universe started)
>as an adult I cant really remember shit that happened in universe and tenchi in tokyo but remember hating tokyo
>month ago decide to rewatch everything in preparation for an s4 to see if its as good as I remembered as a child
>finally getting to see the conclusion of
"tenchis death" and tenchi being a literal god
Its all been good so far apart from s3 with the horrible animation and I recently finished GXP which was literally OK and now I'm watching Geminar
Is Geminar better than s3 and GXP, they were pretty hard to watch.
Should I even bother watching Ai tenchi muyo, universe and tokyo?
>Misaki's japanese voice
disappointed she doesn't show up in the 3rd OVA and didn't have a speaking role in GXP which is really wierd considering shes the mother of Sasami and Ayeka
>Toonami comes back
>Todays youth get:
>Dragon ball z kai
>Kill la kill
>no Tenchi series
>no G Gundam
>No Yu Yu hakusho
>No OG Sailor moon
>No Ronin Warriors
>No Big O
>No Rurouni Kenshin
>No Megas XLR
>They will never experience the midnight run/rising sun
I honestly got excited back when it was first announced that Toonami was coming back, but it's line up just hasn't been anything interesting, either because i've already seen it before, or it just looks boring.
I'm currently re watching all the episodes. I still get chills from the Lighthawk Wings scene. It's just so perfect.
>"ITS YOU! YOU'RE CREATING ALL OF THIS!"
Ryoko is the best.
I had enough Pretty Sammy during Universe, thank you very much.
I'll admit it was the most interesting alternate universe, but something about the whole situation makes my skin crawl.
sadly it feels like that would be the case no matter what was airing.
I watched all those older shows before I knew about downloading/streaming anime online, so programs like toonami that showed a lot of anime was what got me into it.
Not counting shows like Yugioh or digimon during saturday cartoons...when those were a thing
But now, even if they were to show all those old shows that I enjoy, Instead of having to wait till 10 or 11 at night to watch one episode a week, I can watch seasons of a show in a day or 2 on my computer whenever I want.
But then again, not everyone frequents /a/, so they're probably not around people having nostalgia for the older animes that they/we watched, and wouldn't know any of those old shows, and having them air on toonami and introduce the classic (or what we consider to be classics) anime shows to a new generation.
But hey I'm not a business man, and toonami is still airing, so I guess they're airing something that someone likes.
cartoon network as a whole just ain't as good as it once was ;_;
I was thinking the same. I remember liking it when it first aired, but I liked a lot of shit when I was that young.
I have a feeling I will still like it after re watching it.
Why are all of Washu's descendants so perfect?
>I just want both Ryokos to meet. It would make sense for it to happen, but I've got no clue.
It would certainly be interesting. I mean she was NAMED after the original Ryoko. They are very different people but as former pirates I think they would both hit it off. Both also avoid killing people even back during the bad old days.
I recall Balta gushing when explaining her name, I want to know how she reacts when she learns that her hero, and the most destructive person known to the galaxy, has settled down to become a housewife and is constantly butting heads with the princess of Jurai.
>has settled down to become a housewife
I don't think Ryoko is a housewife. A mother, yes, but not a housewife. That's Noike's job. Noike was specifically chosen to be the one keeping the family running smoothly. The manager if you will. Ryoko is the head-wife so don't expect her to do chores.
If she'd had her way early on, she'd be a housewife.
This is from her little fantasy after she and Ayeka had learned about Nobuyuki's Shoujo manga collection and mistaken them for dating guides.
just saw the scene was Granpa schooled Kaigato like the chump he is. Damn this anime was good.
I suspect there was less crazy Shirobako style time and money pressure back then, and cel art is essentially a vector format, rather than the raster format you get from computer processed anime.
>If she'd had her way early on, she'd be a housewife.
She fantasise a lot but that was never her life. (Had washu fixed her tastebuds problem yet?)
In the end she just drinks all day and play pranks. Her room resemble a farmhouse, probably because she likes roleplaying as a farmer's wife. Tenchi is a farmer after all. But they still won't let her in the kitchen.
mother of god, a tenchi thread!
finally /a/ isn't complete shit
Washu is surprised she has a fan club...top lel.
posting some tenchi images to keep this thread alive and kicking!
Anyone who watched Tenchi on VHS instead of Laserdisc is a poorfag.
Though Universe isn't the official Tenchi series, I always appreciated it for doing the space setting so well. It had a decently thought out universe, cool ships, and nice side stories while the overall plot advanced. I liked it.
>remember seeing a few episodes when I was a kid
>try to rewatch it
>no torrents for any of the seasons exist
>tfw remember remembering Tenchi back in the day
>Didn't think i ever finished it
>found and watched the OVA on
Tenchi Muyo > Gundam Wing > Outlaw Star
Tenchi had some really great moments in it.
What does cartoon network even have these days?
The only shit I'm aware of is adventure time and regular show and they just look like something id call "dude comedy" where its lol so randumb xd and literally written by weedheads for weedheads.
Also I have to say looking back good riddance to Toonami and such because dear lord how did put up with English dubs back then, they will never get better will they? just switching back and forth with the dual audio on Tenchi and the effort the english Tenchi's va puts in is appalling, literally drones and "gahh" when being attacked and Ryoko sounding extremely sexy in the japanese whereas the english has her sound like a middle aged woman and Ayeka is even worse.
Back in america sure I guess, I guess a decent thing about Toonami is just getting into anime but they sure have a horrible lineup involving crap like shit la shit and sword fart
Washu's Lullaby was the best.
Always remember who the original badass is anon.
I mean...I watch Steven Universe and Regular show and...that's about it really.
I don't hardly ever have it on unless I just need some back ground noise cause the house is too quiet
>Why is Zinv so cool?
I fixed it for you.
damn this scene chokes me up.
Remember anon, Tenchi can't be copied.
yeah its been well over 15 years and still that scene brings tears to my eyes. Based Washu!
>damn this scene chokes me up.
Her son would probably be still alive had she kept him. But oh well, even gods can't get everything they want.
Then again, it seems EVERY member of the surviving Kuramitsu are Washu's direct descendants... Did she curse the rest of the family or something? One way or the other, everyone else are all dead now.
Here is when Washu realised her son doesn't know her, and left without taking him.
I was half hoping it would include the scene I remember from the end where she tells Tenchi about how she once had a son. That is a touching scene, until she says she wouldn't mind making another with him.
the Kuramitsu's are Washu's direct descendants. If i remember correctly Washu's son lived to be hundreds of years old thanks to his mother's lineage and the Kuramitsu became second only to Jurai in terms of raw military power.
The Kuramitsu are still somewhat loathe to admit that Washu is their matriarch. But they sure as hell fear her.
Yeah, even if it is "canon" to the creator I'm just going to stick with my own interpretation and want of things. I've never seen OVA 3 and don't know if I want to. I know here in the West we built up a lot of interpretations and fanon that were ripped to shreds by it when it finally came out over here.
>I know here in the West we built up a lot of interpretations and fanon that were ripped to shreds by it when it finally came out over here.
That's not my problem. The West were too lazy to read the novels and it is not the author's fault that the West treat Toonami as the only canon.
according to some of that story she confronted the Kuramitsu head soon after that and they were so terrified of her they actually moved her son someplace far away. But they knew she could always find him whenever she wanted.
Novels that have never been scanned officially. The West will never get anything and honestly I don't like the so-called Tenchi Solution anyway. While Jurai might be okay with polygamy II find unrealistic that a kid raised on Earth and with its social mores would be completely okay with it.
trust me they know exactly who she is. A lot of their early military might was purchased directly from her. 20,000 years ago they probably spent a lot of cash trying to placate her and keep her from throwing down the wrath on their asses. But after so long they may have the records, but she's mostly been forgotten. But apparently the Jurains still know the truth and treat Washu with a lot of respect.
>Novels that have never been scanned officially. The West will never get anything and honestly I don't like the so-called Tenchi Solution anyway. While Jurai might be okay with polygamy II find unrealistic that a kid raised on Earth and with its social mores would be completely okay with it.
If you don't like harem endings then you are better off leaving and watch something else. This is just how the metaverse works, older women, hot springs, and harem end. There are plenty of other shows that don't have that and you are free to watch one of those. Tenchi is ABOUT harems. Complaining about harems here is like complaining about seeing nipples in porn.
And just to add, Earth doesn't make the rules in the Tenchi universe. It is a damn Jurai Colony and has no say in how the rest of the galaxy functions. If you don't like it you can go back to your Love Hina.
Her ex-family in laws were total scumbags, cause Mihoshi's great-great-great-great grandfather was her husband after all!
(which also explained why the genius ditz galactic police detective has something divine in her with everything!!)
What's actually the lucky number in Japan??
Or until the stuff is put out as an anime i can just ignore that aspect of it and enjoy the parts I do like. Look, there's no point in arguing about this so let's just drop it.

You can't. You can't ignore the harem because it IS a harem show. I rather you don't watch it at all because you would just be complaining in every thread that it doesn't have monogamy.
Mihoshi is quite literally the only living being in the universe capable of counter-acting Washu. Even Tokimi acknowledged it.
>Except I just said we could drop it so I won't bring it up again. Honestly, given end game is never shown in the anime it doesn't really matter.
And what made you think the new anime wouldn't cover the end game?
Welp I know what I'm doing tonight. This thread warms my heart btw, was just talking about this with a friend recently.
I really should get the BluRays and rewatch it. I rewatched Outlaw Star earlier this year or sometime last year, I should probably rewatch all the old Toonami shows I had been into.
Yeah this thread has helped me a lot too. Feeling better and inspired again. Right now I'm the episode called Sasami and Tsunami. The animation for this episode was so well done.
>While Jurai might be okay with polygamy II find unrealistic that a kid raised on Earth and with its social mores
You act like Polygamy isn't currently practiced on Earth and the concept of mistresses and concubines isn't alive and well, not to mention Japan itself has a significantly different concept of marriage than the west typically does.
THIS! FUCKING THIS THIS THIS THISSS!
I remember hearing that voice and knowing fun times were on, back in the day when Adult Swim had their simple logo and it felt like you really had to be "an adult" to watch and toonami was something to look forward too and little pot bellied Tom was kicking around his space ship before it became like some sort of Halo rippoff.
You said it perfectly, I'm too young to feel this old.
that whole battle with Kagato was god tier. Especially the final strike between Tenchi and Kagato.
Kagato: Tenchi...a boy with the same name as the Master Key, well done Tsunami. Tenchi can't be copied, splendid plan...you've won boy.
It was like he knew that Tenchi's troubles were just beginning.
Yeah. Kagato was simple and to the point. He wanted to rule the universe and prove his theories. Nothing fancy. A straight, cut throat villain with manners. Well so long as you don't count mind raping Ayeka as bad manners.
One example i liked was when he was fighting Yosho and Yosho threw the swrod into the tree. Once that happened Yosho wasn't in his way so he left him alone. If you were in the way of his plans he would eliminate you but if you weren't he wouldn't bother you. I always liked that.
>"No no little one, i'm not your mommy."
dude...you're bringing me to tears again.
it was a class thing, according to Washu. Washu was just a orphan with no high class lineage. So the Kuramitsu simply ignored the marriage and took he husband and baby away.
Oh and another update. According to OVA 3 the Kuramitsu have changed some what over the millennia. They're no longer so stuffy and arrogant. In fact they have adopted a number of orphans into their family. Part of it seems to have come because one of their family married Jurian royalty. Apparently one of the ancestors married Aeyka's grandmother. The woman is said to be more shrewd and devilish then Misaki herself. Even the Emperor fears her!
They did. There are some rumors that they did everything they could the stave off Washu's wrath after she found out what she did. They even went so far as to side against the Jurains when the Space Academy wanted to become a separate entity from them. Washu by then was well known for being able to destroy planets just by making a mistake in her calculations. But this was all thousands of years ago. Washu let a lot of things slide because she realized her child no longer remembered and she didn't want to cause harm to her husband. Of all the characters in the Tenchi series i always hoped she'd have a happy ending. She deserved it.
well guys i am going to bed. I just remembered that i actually have OVA 3 on DVD. bought it years ago. I am probably gonna buy the first 2 OVA at some point so i have a complete collection.
But here is a happy picture for everyone.
It probably helps that, as far as we know, every single living Kuramitsu as of now are Washu's descendent. So she certainly isn't going to extract vengeance on her own flesh and blood.
But as I say, it is rather telling that we haven't head about any other members of the family... Almost like they all mysteriously died young or something...
Bumping with some Mihoshi because I don't have any pics of best girl on hand.
Nor her daughter.
Gah! the thread is dying!! what'll we do guys!!??
Whew finally found one. I need to organize. LIVE THREAD
I'd post more pic...but i think i mostly have porn. Also threadly reminder that Washu is the most powerful woman in the Tenchi Universe and that even Jurai fears her!
>Also threadly reminder that Washu is the most powerful woman in the Tenchi Universe and that even Jurai fears her!
You might have missed the memo about the truly most powerful woman in the world... And she is standing behind Washu in this pic.
>Ogg video format for everything
Freedom is moe.
Yeah, McFarlane did Ryoko and at least one recolor, and LHW Tenchi.
I got both Ryokos at a flea market for 5 bucks.
So I don't really keep up with the whole power level thing in different series, But I often seen Tenchi pretty high on peoples list, Just how strong does he get? I've watched Muyo, Universe and Tokyo, Still need to watch the Ova's.
At the end of OVA 1 he can access a power that only the strongest Jurian space ships have, and he makes a sword from it.
At the end of OVA 3 he's revealed to be the incarnation of the god the created the choushin, the godessess that created the universe. His awakening causes reality-quakes on all 12 dimensions and nearly tears existence apart.
Once he manages to stop that, he goes back to being a carrot farmer and pretends like nothing happened more or less.
>Just how strong does he get?
He is so strong that he can't actually use full power, as that would mean generating more energy than the universe can contain and he would break the universe he is in and has to fix it. But all that doesn't matter because it is about politics and not who kill what.
