Just finished yuyuyu, and I actually really enjoyed it. I was surprised at just how little I was able to predict to the plot, at least in the beginning. I wish they would have kept up the gimmick of having the OP change every time something major happened, but it worked very well in the beginning.
the only thing that sorta bothered me was the unusually happy ending, but I like all of the fan ideas around Yuki still being a hero
putting that aside, madoka is still probably the better show
i'm two episodes in. i dunno, i feel like i should hate this show? it's incredibly derivative, and completely fails to explain its premises in any meaningful way. it's like "you know it's a magical girl show so fuck explaining anything." makes me feel like i should just be watching some other show. the comedy is on point though, animation is great sometimes, and the characters are interesting.
i should have pointed out that it could have later haha, shouldn't get TOO judgmental early on. there are some exciting things about it, i imagine i'll finish it no matter what.
It was the only ending that made any sense thematically, and it isn't exactly happy if you don't forget the Vertex are just over the horizon and can invade again eventually. It's also not the end of the story, there is an epilogue chapter called Sonoko After which covers what they didn't had time to explain in the anime's last episode and also drops a few sequel hooks. There's also WaSuYu which is a prequel about when Tougou was a yuusha for the first time, and NoWaYu, which is about what happened 300 years ago when the Vertexes first attacked. The latter is still being issued monthly and might be related to these fan theories since one of the characters is just like Yuuna. I think the next chapter comes out this weekend, and there'll definitely be a thread so try to catch up until then if it interests you.
And let's not make the madoka comparison, nothing good can come out of it.
Man, the OP is so fucking shit.
But I see is almost end of the month.
Where do I get a preview picture of next LN cover of NoWaYu?
The ending still pisses me off.
Not because it's a deus ex machina of the laziest kind but because it shits on everything all other characters suffered through and achieved in favour of the blandest one that happens to be the MC.
Do you agree that he's best dedicated fan artist for YuYuYu (and VRO)?
I just don't understand one thing
Not wanting to sexualize the Yuushas truly is suffering
The new 4-koma chapter is out. Now is Anzu's turn.
Cute! Why isn't there more old yuushas x new yuushas crossover fanart? And when will Hiro let me post files with more than 5 MB?
the only thing that sorta bothered me was the unusually happy ending
It was a classically bullshit bait and switch end, ruined the whole series for me which was unfortunate because it was good
Does anyone have the other version of this image, the with Gin's name.
>great character design
>shitty writing and directing
Why are all Madoka clones like that?
The series doesn't spoon-feed until quite late on -- there's a lot of things shown that don't become significant until much later. But you can just settle back and watch it for the cripple moe, instead.
I think Yuyuyu makes more sense than Meduka, so I like it a little more.
Oddly enough Rebellion goes for the same usually happy ending approach, but it's nowhere near as satisfying as Yuyuyu.
>Rebellion goes for the same usually happy ending approach
I hate this meme. I liked the old meme better.
>I think Yuyuyu makes more sense than Meduka, so I like it a little more.
YuYuYu was a blast to watch along with /a/, especially that week running up to the final episode, when Christmas was in fact saved.
Madoka I didn't watch along with /a/, and I didn't enjoy it enough to get much past the half-way mark.
but karin-chan is the cutest when she's shown affection!
>year 300 of the Era of the Gods
>people still try to bully the chosen hero of the Great Tree
This shit is exactly why the Shinju wants sacrifices.
Molesting Karin is so easy you can literally do it in your sleep.
You will never be brought screaming into womanhood by Yuuna's godhand technique.
She's a born and raised yuusha with years of training, she'd wake up and break your arm before you even touched her. You have to do it when she's crippled.
I feel like I messed up a bit trying to redo the part of Anzu's hair that were covered by Tama's arm.
Feel free to complain.
I didn't want to bump but I will just in case you want to make more of the 4koma cutouts. I love every one.
Yeah those are really the only threads I like. These other ones I just read after they've died.
I just hope Translator-kun and JJ to appear to translate and typeset the 4-koma.
There'll be a bonus 6 pages long chapter titled "Sanshu wandering journey - Hero tours" in vol2 starring Washuyu group.
If you buy the book from Toranoana, you'll get 4 pages 4koma about Wakaba/Hinata's favorite Honetsuki-dori on a leaflet.
The Heroes need to be pure in order to carry out their sacred task. Do not fuck the Heroes. Attempting to do so will be construed as an act of terrorism and treason against the state.
It's time for the fourth hero's room~
Now, today's guest is...
Iyojima Anzu, age 14! First year middle school student!
why are you here, Tamako-san?
Anzu is Tama's kouhai.
So it's Tama's duty as sempai to back her up!
But it's time for Iyojima-san's self-introduction!
And that's exactly why Tama has to make an appearance as her sempai!!
I'm scared, but I have to try hard, don't I...?
Anzun, let's start with what kind of hobbies you have~
Anzun's a book lover!
She even reads when it's time to eat, see~
Just the other day, we were having kamaage and she dipped her noodles into her glass of water instead of the sauce by mistake!
\It was tamazing [TL: she says tamaran with tama in katakana like her name]/
You can't tell them that, Tamacchi~!!
Bad kids get tied and hung up.
You really love reading books don't you~
I especially love romance novels...
I read a lot too, and I'm even writing a novel myself~
W-wow! I want to read it!
Please let me call you Sonoko-sensei!
Don't lead Anzu down some weird path~!!
Well, see you again next month----
I really want to read Sonocchi's novels someday.
Imagine if the Taisha started cloning Yuusha.
An army of Itsuki.
Why is Fū so shit? she ruined the whole episode
Why is Karin such a stuck up bitch?
If you find the answer to one you will find the answer to the other
Now that Karin has given up on Yuuna, who will win the Karin bowl? Fuu, Itsuki, or Sonoko?
This meme is terrible and you should feel terrible for spreading it.
Pleiades was great and pretty much as powarm~ as YuYuYu itself. Probably too heterosexual for part of the /a/ mahou shoujo fanbase though.
>the sanctity of memes
Stop forcing this, people will pervert memes regardless and gaijins have been all over the place for years already, more often as an indicator of the fanbase's general reaction per episode than as a continuous hype meter.
What's the least number of episodes you'd recommend someone gives it?
For example I'd say 5 episodes for Serial Experiments Lain, but at most 2 episodes for SAO, and only 1 episode for Tatami Galaxy even thought it's one of my favourites..
Unfortunately I'd have to cut and rearrange some content here and there in order to reserve the entire last episode for healing, literally. Then it could show things like Fuu and Itsuki taking care of Karin, the first time Karin starts seeing or hearing again, etc. I'd extend the conversation between Fuu and Karin about what they think happened and would have Tougou join them. And I'd use the club room to indicate the passage of time, showing them reunited in there a few times, each time healthier but increasingly worried about Yuuna. Everything else I'd leave untouched.
I'll be nice.
Not the full series. I just mentioned a series that in my opinion should honestly be mandatory for everyone to watch at least twice in full, yet I gave it less than 6 episodes. Have the courtesy of coming up with a number <10
You actually described how it was originally storyboarded.
Hopefully a Roman Album will be published someday that will let everyone see it.
Although some of the material was shunted off into VN2.
Sonoko After was also supposed to be in the last 3 minutes or so of Ep13.
I can surely dramatically improve this show if I was the writer.
I won't let the disabilities be cured in the final episode but it doesn't mean simply introducing "BAD END".
Firstly, I set the theme of this show as "mutual aid" which means that "you can overcome any difficult situations if it is provided that the help of others".
The main story frame is as follows:
Hero club has helped the local people and then after they got disabilities, the people who are helped/know hero club help/support them in return.
For example, the children of the Kindergarten come to the hospital and give them a senbazuru to cheer up the heros.
Karin is also utilized in this sense, she's save by the members of hero club mentally in ep3, so in return she helps/cheers the other members after they got disabilities.
By helping each other and being supported by the people around them, their daily lives as the members of Here club are preserved, in which they continue to help others around them even with their disabilities as the "Heros".
To achieve this plot, I may weaken the disability of Karin she got in ep 11, which is too much I think.
"the catharsis" comes from the phase transition, form a very bad state to a good state.
MCs have to overcome from some difficulties, which introduces the catharsis.
This can be achieved not only in physical meaning but also mental meaning.
If they overcome from the depression caused by the fact they got disabilities, I can formate the phase transition and introduce the catharsis even though they don't "physically" overcome from the disabilities.
For this, the heros have to be in panic (Yuuna is also) after they found the consequence of mankai, which I modify/newly introduce to sharpen the phase transition.
>And will they continue to accumulate
The vertexes are beaten to the extent that they cannot atack human in coming decades.
The war is not terminated but this is very real, nothing is different form the world we are living and experiencing.
Sounds good, but doesn't leave room for a sequel with the same characters. That might make it hard to get green-lit, since producers usually like to have a chance for a sequel, in case the property proves to be successful.
I also want to say the role of Togou.
She's disabled from the very first episode.
This fact can support/imply the idea that one can live the daily life even with disabilities if appropriate aids are provided.
Utilizing this, I can naturally returns the heros to their daily lives even though their disabilities are not cured.
>a good state
It's not a good state. Not even the canon ending is a good state, it's just a breather. But it's a much more significant and personal relief to overcome the disabilities than to merely push away the foes for god knows how long.
And even if they'd knew for a fact that the vertexes won't attack again in their time as yuushas, or even in their lifetime, you're left with this problem >>133964917
Also toning down Karin's disabilities would dramatically reduce the impact of her awesome fight.
I like this. I actually think the series would be better off without her in the case of a sequel. She's too good, too heroic. That makes her pretty boring in the emotional and psychological department. I'd like a MC that can provide some degree of internal conflict.
Good or bad are relative concept, not absolute.
The only important thing is the difference or gap between good and bad.
>much more significant and personal relief to overcome the disabilities
This may be true, but, at the same time, very shallow.
Overcoming from the disabilities are just the same level with the MC getting some super power like Jamp animes, naruto, bleach, something like that.
It's obvious that the mental growth is more deep and touching.
Overcoming disabilities in the mental aspect is this level, showing the capability of the sprits of human.
>Also toning down Karin's disabilities
May be. But just by leaving one eye sight to her, it may be ok level. No need to reduce the number of makai, which is the very importance for that scene.
But that was not.
Yeah, tt was not expectable.
But, after all, homura is not a magical girl who prays and fights for people in the world like Madoka.
She's only interested in one particular person, which is also very real as a human and composes nice contrast with Madoka.
So, in terms of the main structure, that "twist" was decent if not 10/10.
Are you talking about this? My Japanese is pretty basic but it doesn't seem to say anything about Madoka not loving Homu and whatnot as far as I can tell.
Please stop the Madoka discussion here, remember this is a YuYuYu thread, replying to he homuhater is the reason this threads go to shit.
Not that there were things I don't like.
Just that there were not much things I like.
Character design was good but without character development, it doesn't become its advantage.
So were there any point which stands out in ep1, ep2.
Nasu hater, please.
But I tried. 3 episode rule.
After all, yuyuyu was only the girls only show in that season without irritating male MC harem shit.
So I actually had no choice but to continue.
On the other hand, School Live stands out in its ep1. But that does not mean that guarantees the quality of the show.
pretty much all the shorts
I saw the first episode of Concrete Revolution and didn't like it much, but I'm thinking of giving it another chance
And Comet Lucifer when I get around to catching up
A lot of things, but most importantly Soukyuu no Fafner Exodus.
I went through the franchise starting a month ago and somewhere half through the first season I realised YuYuYu is pretty much Fafner with magical girls. The amount of parallels you can make is absurd. If you loved YYY as much as I did, you'll love it if you can get through the okay-ish first half of Dead Aggressor.
I'm also now convinced that we absolutely need something to be shown from the Taisha point of view. I want to see someone's moral struggles about forcing children to fight.
>I realised YuYuYu is pretty much Fafner with magical girls
Yes there was. They ran out of money.
They did not SUDDENLY ran out of money, they knew they would be short early in production, they tried to keep up the animation quality in the parts leading up to and during the final battle. So they telescoped the last two episodes into one.
From that perspective: "morality of taisha", we can construct very nice theme I think.
I don's think they are likely to show moral struggles explicitly but not that they are pure villains.
Its kinda "the banality of evil".
Their behavior is justified as "it's only the choice to save the world".
Also, maknai/sange is the phenomenons in the realm of the gods which also weaken the consciousness to the ethical meaning of thier behavior.
Again, source? If it's true then I can start placing my foolish hopes in the idea they'll animate the proper ending for the recap movie before S2.
OK now -that- looks more lew-
>>microphone replaced by Niboshi
I lost it.
>>"morality of taisha"
Now I really need to catch up with Fafner.
Why is Karin so shit? She ruined the whole show
Thank you, JJ!
Just watched it.
You guys have probably heard this a thousand times but
>Not keeping Yuuna all potatoe'd
I can accept there being no more monsters, the tree releasing them, them getting back their lost functions but her coming back? That's what pushed it over the edge. Should've kept her spirit in the tree or some bullshit so when
S2rolls around they can get her back.
I see that being a grimderp grants immunity to sarcasm.
No, having a character immediately break a promise that the resolution of the entire plot arc was based around would have been a moronic idea.
Having the resolution based on such a promise was a bad idea to begin with, because it puts Tougou in a situation of total emotional dependence on Yuuna.
Tougou has to become her own person. She has to become strong enough that if Yuuna were to die or disappear from her life, she would be able to keep living on her own, otherwise she would not only fail as a hero, but also a person.
But Yuuna's promise breaks all that. There's no need for Tougou to grow into her own, because Yuuna will always be there for her. Sounds cool on paper, but it's an unhealthy mindset.
You are expecting a magical girl story to end with "and then they grew more emotionally distant, and that's a good thing!". Not happening, and would completely fuck up everything the show was trying to convey if it did.
She does keep it, though. That's the whole point - she had faith that it would work out, and in the end it did.
>I'm going to make promises I have absolutely no way of keeping!
This. How did Yuuna know she wouldn't forget about Tougou? On what basis? And how the fuck did that reassure Tougou at all?
You're complaining that Tougou's emotions about Yuuna are too strong. You want her to learn to not be so powerfully affected by her. That is not going to happen. You should stop watching magical girl shows.
I think the punch to the face may've left Tougou out of it a little
Unhealthy emotions are fun and keep the show interesting
And you would portray Tougou being less affected by Yuuna without it coming off that she feels less strongly about her by...?
For that matter, how is this even dependence? Her fall happened because she wanted to save Yuuna from eternal suffering, not herself, and similarly her breakdown in the epilogue was because of her role in what happened to Yuuna.
You're whining about a show not having the message you wanted it to have, even when there was absolutely zero chance of it right from the beginning. Desist.
>Her fall happened because she wanted to save Yuuna from eternal suffering, not herself
Did you even watch the episode. She was afraid that she would be left alone again, that she was going to forget or they were going to forget about her.
She did it all for herself. Because she couldn't deal with the possibility of being left alone again.
Oh, great, Homuhater v2.
>Did you even watch the episode
In other news, vol2 of the 4koma is out and we'll never get to read the bonus chapter in it.
Her main reason for doing it is that she's afraid that ALL of them are going to be left alone. Memory loss is brought up in refutation of Yuuna's "you're worth hell" speech, not to indicate she's suddenly more concerned for herself than about Yuuna. The whole interaction demonstrates that there are some things you can't willingly sacrifice, and confirms the theme of believing that doing the right thing will lead to everything working out - a crucial cornerstone of the show that would be completely undermined by Yuuna failing to keep her promise.
>>and we'll never get to read the bonus chapter in it.
Are we 100% sure of this one?
I don't like this meme.
but we couldn't, we send them.
Because she wouldn't have let me.
Makings the uniform is hard, I can't believe I have to hand-sew
Why is Shiratori so shit? She ruined the whole chapter.
You should be eaten alive for saying that.
Pretty sure I saw the TL fag who lurks these threads say he wanted this.
This was amazing, thanks heaps anon.
I enjoyed reading this immensely.
Thanks. I'll get to it soon.
The third Yuyuyu Only will be held on 28/02/2016 in Kagawa, where Nowayu takes place.
The way they did the ED in the last two episodes was really nice. I liked how much the show seemed to be thought out in general, it felt like the people who created it gave a shit about it, which isn't all that common in anime.
>the last two episodes
The last 4 episodes, anon. 9 had Itsuki singing (you know which song I'm talking about), 10 had Tougou singing, 11 had Yuuna singing and 12 was everybody singing.
I enjoy a lot when anime adapt OP and ED to situation, it really helps with the atmosphere and it conveys the feelings much better.
I disagree. They were literally stuck in hell. There was no possibility of winning, let alone surviving. The lesser gods were prolonging the inevitable.
It would have made more sense if they lost, left floating in space for all of eternity.
I want to togo Togo's togos.
My only problem with them is the blank space at the top.
That's so that you can rest your head on it
Her haughty smirk is enough to warm my heart
When does the new NoWaYu come out? Is it this weekend? Also thready reminder of best hero.
Fuu doesn't need to be cute, she has the mature appeal
I wish they kept that Techno-Magic Girls + Standard Army team up they did against the first monster for the rest of the show.
I guess it's just some Iwasaka. It's close to a Shinto shrine IRL, too.
>Coming soon to a yuusha near you.
>to a yuusha near you.
I think...That last episode was kind of out there to put it softly.
We're not doing this again.
At this point I'd be more interested in a Shiratori-POV stream-of-consciousness style LN about her 3 years than NoWaYu. Her initial optimism, eagerness to fight to protect her country. Her days of loneliness, with no one to confide in save a lone voice on the other side of a radio. Her fighting, by herself, singlehandedly holding of the Vertex hordes. Her slow descent into despair as she realises it's hopeless, all her efforts were in vain. Her crippling feeling of failure as everyone she had sworn to protect and save are torn to pieces and eaten, thanks to her inability to save him.
It'd be amazing.
