What is the absolute worst anime you've ever watched to completion?
Pic related. What Reco did to me
Yosuga no Sora or Zetsuen no Tempest, YnS literally took me 8 months to finish, it was torture, and when I finally got where the part everyone told me it was the only part it was worth to watch, it was so stupid, Oni Chichi is better written than this shit.
Going by the summary and this picture it seems like a fun Eva clone with jets, right? Wrong. It's a festering pool of nonsensical plot, contrived drama, and characters so stupid and so dislikeable that laughing at their suffering and wangst actually made the show somewhat tolerable. And I watched the DVD version. Supposedly the version that originally aired was even more confusing, and chock full of QUALITY to boot.
Psychic Detective Yakumo.
My god, it as bad. So very very bad.
Somewhere between Milky Holmes and Guilty Crown. I still can't believe I managed to finish both.
I'd say the big thing driving people is a false and foolish hope that it'll get better. And some people are new enough not to realize that some series never get better.
G-Reco is the most recent culprit.
I kept putting my trust in Tomino the whole series, waiting for it to go somewhere.....
And then it didn't. And then it ended. And it was a huge waste of everyone's fucking time.
Time to send Tomino to the farm...
I didn't really hate watching it, someone I knew was watching it and we just kept pushing each other to watch it until it was done.
I'd say give the first chapter of the visual novel a try. The first half of the VN has an amazing atmosphere.
At least some terrible series make up for it with the threads.
Select images with trains, how appropriate.
Either Futari wa Milky Holmes or the Candy Boy ONA.
Worst anime I completed this year was Gakkou Gurashi. I should have listened to my gut and dropped it before the final episode and the huge "fuck you" it gave.
No, if the first half is about the MC being whiny and no. Sorry, I hate that guy. Props to the VA on him. It makes me a wake up call to stop being a filthy otaku and go outside.
Haruhi. I still don't get why people liked this annoying fucking show.
OH come now, Darkness wasnt THAT bad, it at least gave a nice story arc to follow instead of the normal "Slice-of-life style falling-into-tits"
the only thing I skipped was one OVA that was nothing but music and a slideshow of all girls in bikinis.
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase. Do not be fooled by the promise of loli vampire and this gif. This anime was garbage. The manga might be better but the show put me off trying it.
The manga wasn't great, but at least it had the decency to deliver with
soul becoming a death scytheand a giant battle, and then end. Also it didn't have this >>133913659 insult to the audience's intelligence.
Clannad movie is the worst thing i have ever watched ,you thought KEY characters designs are terrible? Think again, this movie somhow manage to make an already terrible designs even more atrocious and awful, it will make you appreciate the anime designs more and more.
Also they said Dezaki is a great director , this movie proved the opposite. He can't direct shit, that was terrible.
>watched to completion
While the ending is indeed better then the VN/anime BS ending, it doesn't excuse the rest of its flaws, man was watching the movie a painful experience because of how terrible it is.
In recent memory? Definitely Aldnoah Zero S2. S1 was at least decent, whereas this season was just an absolute trainwreck. Not even /a/ threads saved this piece of crap from being even watchable, and that's literally the only reason I finished it.
Tokyo Underground. I cannot fathom what came over me to finish this series I really don't understand. This show is so generic it is mind boggling how they manage to do literally nothing new or interesting.
What's the problem with the movie? I've read the VN to completion and watched the series 3 or 4 times and the OVAs once, but I've been avoiding the movie because I was afraid it would make me mad like the Tomoyo OVA did. Does it just look like shit? Or are there like, a myriad of issues with it?
In my case I watched the movie first without knowing nothing about the series, and it really hit me hard and made me cry, I don't really care about visuals but the message, for me it was good, but if you already watched the series then I don't think you are going to like it.
Ah, I feel you. Thanks for the input, man. I had the opposite issue with the Tomoyo OVA. I was relatively young and fairly retarded when I watched Clannad the first time so I ended up watching the OVAs before After Stories and it made me sooooo fuckin' angry.
Art is shit obviously, but its not the only problem unfortunately, the directing is awful like some bad 80' anime , not even awful in modern standards if that makes any sense.
And as you can expect, the story is rushed as hell, you can't just tell a story of a long VN in 90 minutes, music is bad except the few reused songs from VN.
The only saving grace is the ending, otherwise don't waste your time, it was just 90 minutes, but they were the most painful 90 minutes ever
If you ever loved Clannad , don't do this to yourself, you will regret it.
The funny thing is, that's in my bottom five, definitely. Certainly the bottom five of anime I actually own.
The worst, though? Well, let's get a bit of context first:
That's cool and all, and if that's true you've lived a charmed fucking life.
I have an anime that's as bad as people seem to THINK Evangelion is.
The Candidate for Goddess. That shit was so bad it got cancelled. And bankrupted its anime studio. Everything about it is just pain.
You think Shinji Ikari is annoying? Sure, he's not a great human being, I can respect that. He's certainly a weak human being, at the beginning and end after his breakdown.
But The Candidate for Goddess has a protagonist so horrible that you'll wish for Shinji to come back.
Zero Enna, main character of Candidate for Goddess, I loathe you. And your entire series. And your shitty fucking zero-effort cgi that was horrible even for its time. And your poor editing, multitude of ridiculous characters, lack of a plot, pseudo-intellectual attempts at mystery and metaphysics that made Star Trek: The Original Series look mature and scientifically accurate, space gods and all.
Fuck this show. Don't believe me? Watch one episode. Just one. See how you handle it.
I am a huge fan of the original series and i think Rebellion is the best Madoka product of all time, it surpasses the original.
I would be lying though if i said i didn't understand why anyone would hate it, and that's perfectly fine, what they did to some characters were just plain painful, and in a way they undid the original ending.
>what they did to some characters were just plain painful, and in a way they undid the original ending.
So you are saying it is shit, but you don't think it is shit?
Thats some mental gymnastics you have there.
I'd love to disagree and call you a gigantic fucking faggot... But even though I loved Kiddy Grade, it pains to admit that Girl-and was a horrible experience.
The same things everyone hate is the very things i love about the movie.
Unexpected but logical character development and a more satisfying ending , it was way more interesting then the original ending.
Homura did nothing wrong.
>they don't understand true love
Obviously it was entertaining enough that I didn't drop it, also it helped that I had nothing better to do with my life at the time. I did like how they actually call out Hazuki for being the little loli cunt that she is that one time. They do bring up some good points that subvert things occasionally. But it was really all over the place in terms of settings and goals and just what the fuck was actually going on. Knowing absolutely nothing about the manga, I feel like it was probably trying to take 10 pounds of shit from the manga (that might have actually worked there) and shove it into a 5 pound bag. It was just too much. And somehow by the end
they were trapped at sea in a floating house or something and her half sister was there, so I honestly had no idea what the fuck was the point or how I even got from point A to that house.yeah it's been a long time since I watched it but the "all-over-the-place-ness" and general plot and character retardation is what I remember most, making it remain in my mind as more garbage rather than decent.
>mfw watching the last episode of moon phase all those years ago
All i remember was something about 7 kings ruling the world from the shadows.
Blue king had a private police force and red king had a japaneses teenage street gang.
Idek how i watched 12 episodes, this show is the epitome of autism
Gregory Horror Show
I wasn't tired of reality enough for this.
It was a bit different from the actual show. But it wasn't that bad. Sometimes I wish other shows would do spin offs where they follow villains doing their shenanigans.
Also, Yugiri was cute.
Akame ga Kill
Gokukoku no Brynhildr
Hamatora (including S2, which is better than the first)
Juuou Mujin no Fafnir
Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara
Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan
Kyoukai no Kanata
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (Watched it for based Onii-sama)
Master Of Martial Hearts
Momo Kyun Sword
Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou
Ranpo Kitan - Game of Laplace
Shinmai Maou no Testament
Wizard Barristers Benmashi Cecil
Zankyou no Terror
probably gonna think i'm saying this because it's popular, but Sword Art Online. Good Lord that was a stupid piece of shit. I mean, pieces of shit are already stupid, but if that specific piece of shit was animated through shitty dark arts, it would be crowned King of Shit, a diadem of cliches, boring characters, and bullshit.
Penguindrum is pretty straightforward, mate.
Seriously what the fuck.
I had to go look up the name to make that post, I'd blocked it from my mind so thoroughly.
'anime 12 year old girl in love with high schooler'
I hope Google doesn't remember that search in the future, I'll wind up on a list somewhere.
No, I read manga thoroughly and can watch most movies and many OVAs in their entirety.
Anime series tend to have horrible production values with cheapness staring at you from every corner at every moment so I drop them very fast.
Not that Anon, but eureka 7 was garbage. it was the latest I dropped a show. Honestly to me it was entry level naruto tier garbage. I genuinely don't get why people praise the hell out of it. It had a shallow as hell message about the power of love while being psudo deep. All of it was surface level shit. The poorly developed romance, the fake psycho analysis, the forced symbolism. All of it. Not to mention Renton being an ungrateful shit and selling out the only people who ever showed him genuine kindness to help out the literal armed terrorist group that did nothing but abuse and almost kill him, all because of a surface level attraction he had towards Eurka, a girl who while not mean to him wasn't particularly nice to him at the time either. All she did (at that point in time at least) was not be a total asshole to him, she didn't do anything particularly grand or kind, just acted civil. Any normal person would have let Holland and his abusive, crazy, selfish ass burn.
This sounds like an edgey contrarian post, but it was seriously one of the worst works of fiction I've ever experienced. I was excited for it at first but around episode 4 or so it started becoming painful to watch as the characters stood around crying about their incredibly trivial problems with simple solutions and then losing their minds over it. IDK what people see in this shit.
Has to be a tie between Mekaku city actors and Mirai nikki
Actually, scratch that, Mekaku had SHAFT visuals, and Mirai nikki was fucking horrendous
More than likely you are new to anime, have no clue what the Mahou shoujo genre is at all, or are just plain up idiotic.
There's just no way that Madoka can be your worst anime if you have watched at least more than 30 shows.
>S2 Being better than the first
Shit, I don't know what the fuck you wanted out of it, because it delivered on most of the things it promised. Sure it was kinda generic, but it achieved its goals.
My god that show was boring as fuck. I kept watching it because a friend told me the ending was glorious. Nothing happened.
Also the art style is disgusting.
I still say Mekaku was worse than Mirai Nikki. Hear me out. Both were terrible and edgy as hell, but at least Mirai Nikki was just shitty Normie bait. Mekaku had a legitimately horribly put together plot, and even for SHAFT the animation quality was terrible. It had all of the problems with SHAFT and almost none of the good. Also as bad, nonsensical, and shitty as Mirai Nikki's plot was, at least it had a more competently put together plot structure than Mekaku did. Not saying that the plot was better, but Mekaku was more all over the place and ADHD with revealing plot details. In a more competent show the random flash backs could have been interesting, and added an air of mystery, not in this one. Really though, it's like asking if you want a long, confusing painful torture, or a quick swift one.
I've watched Sailor Moon and some Precure. Madoka was still pretty bad. I would probably enjoy Madoka more if I was "just plain up idiotic." I'm also not new, I think I've watched about a hundred anime over the last decade and a half. Not impressive, but definitely not new.
Madoka isn't THE #1 worst anime I ever watched, but this topic is asking about ones we watched all the way through. There's some truly reprehensible anime I only made it through 1 or 2 episodes before dropping. It's definitely the worst one I finished.
By the three episode rule it had one really good episode, one mediocre episode and one bad episode, so I kept it. I didn't expect every episode after that to be bad or horrible, but by the time I realize I should have dropped it I was so far in that I finished it just out of spite.
>not liking Sakura Trick
Aku no Hana was absolute shit. By the second episode I was just watching it because it was unintentionally funny as fuck, and it's the only reason it got a 2/10 instead of a 1/10.
Am I a terrible person if I actually enjoy the first episode of Elfen Lied? Every once in a while I'll fire it up and watch it. It's breddy cool when she escapes the lab.
Is cousin fucking a legit thing in Nippon? I've seen quite a few animu where there's a love interest towards a cousin. It isn't some isolated thing.
You tell me, what the fuck was it even about, by the end of it I literally didn't know what the fuck I have watched. Not a single likeable character, maybe the guy that play the super hero at the end. It was "Nothing Happen: The anime", even K-on have more plot movement and character development.
This show didn't deserve it's damn good dub it had.
So many seasonal anime that I've finished the past couple years have been bad, and many before then as well, but even among them this takes the cake. I don't know how I finished it. I dropped legitimately better shows. It's just that, for one reason or another, I had to keep watching Glasslip. It was terrible, but also intriguing, like what would happen if an alien watched a bunch of human dramas and decided to make one itself based on what it learned.
It wasn't the worst I've ever completed, but it was pretty damn bad in terms of writing and characterization. Pretty much every character was petty and unlikable, which undermines the show considering it revolves around the characters. The only things that saved it were the art direction and OST, which made for a great atmosphere. Overall it was really fucking disappointing, because style alone can't carry an entire series.
Don't pretend you didn't know what you were in for.
>am I a terrible person
Yes but because you are a faggot. You aren't required to join the /a/ meme train on all stops, just some. I enjoyed Elfen lied but can see why people write it off as edgy.
Rail Wars dropped after the first episode.
K was entertaining though
There it is. I couldn't remember, thanks
Also I think I watched all of Blue Gender and Rahxephon
maximum shit taste
>Is cousin fucking a legit thing in Nippon?
It's a legit thing everywhere in the world. Having children with your cousins has historically been one of the most common things ever.
Well right, historically. Today, it's kind of looked down upon in at least America, and I'm pretty sure most of the West as well. Is there no stigma whatsoever today in Japan, I guess is what I was asking.
Right, but the stigma is there. I was wondering if there is no stigma at all in Japan, as in it is perfectly normal and even somewhat common for cousins to marry and no one bats an eye.
Bad anime I, and by default most people, watch to the end usually start off good but you remember them as being bad because the final few episodes are shit, or are so bad they're good and you actually enjoy watching them.
I've dropped plenty of shit anime but I think the worst I've endured to the end was Macross 7 because it was
fun to watch with pals
Also the Dynamite OVA was actually good for some mysterious reason
What a shit taste, the show was terrible, every character was below the bottom of the barrel. I can't believe someone could've fucked up imouto character that much, it's pure trash.
Maybe except pic related, but it's not that hard to shine among turds.
Yeah, but every episode looked like it was gonna build up to something interesting. In the end it was a whole load of nothing.
Yeah, that was really shit
Also watched it twice and liked it
>300 replies and no-one posted Mars of Destruction
I'm disappointed in you /a/
>mfw I have a 2:1 completed to dropped ratio but I STILL have finished shows that I think are garbage
If I dropped everything I thought (knew) was going to be shit, I'd be watching 2-3 series per season. Which is kind of a good idea actually.
The finale was fucking hilarious, they ran out of budget on an eva scale.
I gave this one episode to catch my interest because I was fed up with that faggot after managing to finish Galilei Donna the prior season. He should just to porn for the rest of his career, go on Kickstarter or Patreon, I'd fund him
Amen, fellow oldfag. Apocalypse Zero is so terrible.
I did it just to see how shitty it would get.
It's hard to choose between this and Kanon, but I actually had high hopes for this series so I guess I was more disappointed when it turned out to be garbage.
Guilty Crown. SO. FUCKING. BROKEN.
It's like the story doesn't even attempt to make sense.
It starts out pretty good, but that shit changes over the course of the show in such a way that I can graph that shit out.
Dan Eagleman was the best thing this show had. It's like he wandered in from a better franchise, which, for all we know, he did.
If it was to completion, maybe Gatchaman Crowds
I only finished Aldnoah Zero because I watched it with my brother who loves that sort of shounen hero stuff. I thought the setting and history were interesting but the characters were just unbearably boring.
I will admit the end of the last episode caught me by surprise, and then I watched the first episode of s2 which effectively ruined the one bit of shock I got from this lukewarm show.
The OP is the most redeeming thing about it, for sure. Very well designed.
I would say you should watch it and judge it for yourself. I was able to watch it all the way through so obviously it wasn't the worst anime ever. But it doesn't have much value, either.
Free. I made it like 7 episodes in and was dying of boredom because there was barely any fucking plot. I forced myself to sit through the rest because there was only like 5 episodes left.
Also shit like Haruhi, K-On, and Rosario Vampire. God I hate slice of life.
>I've seen quite a few animu where there's a love interest towards a cousin. It isn't some isolated thing.
until very recently in human history that was not generally frowned upon and was totally normal
Mahou Sensou. Holy shit what a crap anime that was. It even ended in a stupid season 2 bait cliffhanger, except it'll never get a season 2.
The ED song by Nano pretty much carried me through that show.
Claymore. First couple episodes were okay, and it became great once it flashed back to Teresa. Then it came back to the present and it was awful for the rest of it, but with a few exceptions that gave me hope and lured me into the horrible ending.
