Reverse searching cropped frames of ero doujinshi tends not to be the most fruitful of endeavours.

>>
>>133878276
They are LITERALLY rec threads. They is no discussion or thread topic.
Asking for source is basically the entire point of these threads.
Especially when some faggots post cropped pages.

Because refusing to answer when somebody asks "what is this" (aside from cases where the answer is so obvious that the asker must have a terminal case of newfaggotry) is just being a dick. It doesn't help promote some sort of board culture. It's especially dumb in OPTs, in wich the explicit goal is to convince someone to read something, and you can't really do that if they don't know what it is that they're looking at.

On another note, though, OPTs ARE fucking cancer. They're just veiled rec threads.

Nah, if you've ever been on a sad panda or one page thread, you'll know that spoon feeding perpetuates more spoonfeeding, then you get a thread where half of the anons in there are begging for sauce instead of googling or reading the file name. Spoon feeding isn't good for the thread or the anon.

no. posting interesting things for you to pick up is. you should be capable of finding sauce on your own.

If you teach people how to look for sauce, then it decreases sauce requests naturally, and only leaves those where sauce is hard/impossible to find.

Not like your post was an argument in the first place.

90% of threads on here is either someone posting about a show/manga/VA/artist/mangaka they like or a dislike, which in itself is a form of recommendation.

>>

Speaking of which anyone need some help identifying something? I've got a few minutes.
>>
Not all image are image search-able. Of course they would ask later.
>>
>>133878747
Encouraging laziness is bad for the board. There used to be a rec sticky. It's gone for a reason.
>>
>>133878461
I'm looking at the current OPT right now and people do due diligence there, barely ask for sauce and even try to decipher runes.

They're doing it right.
>>
>>133878833
sometimes you can search for the right tags too. be a bit creative.

if you really need to ask for sauce then show what you have already tried. if you put enough effort into it and still failed then someone might be willing to help.

the issue with spoonfeeding is when people ask for the most simple and obvious things.
>>

Most things are found with google, or typing in some names/terms on the screencap + anime/manga, but not always. The problem lies with the blanket treatment of asking for sauce; even if there's no way to find sauce on your own, asking is still verboten.
>>
I only give sauce to series i think are obscure. I usually don't give sauce to h-manga/doujin
>>
>>133877856
No it doesn't keep the thread on topic you fucking shitposter. If the thread is out of thing to discuss then let it die naturally, keeping it alive by shitposting will invite nothing but shitposting, by the off chance if someone got some good topic to discuss in the thread you keep alive by shitpost, the thread would by swarmed with shit by that point.
>>
>>133879058
you need to prove that you tried to be resourceful. if your post consists of

>sauce plz?
or
>I tried google (it's a webm and has metadata)
>iqdb gives nothing (it's a pixiv filename)
>saucenao gives nothing (it's a twitter filename)
etc.

then you will be told to fuck off.

Asking the right questions is key.

Sometimes I wish rec threads were allowed because I have very specific interests sometimes, interests that can't be fulfilled by a google search. "Girls who mostly act asexual but occasionally show interest in men" is not the most searchable term.

>>133879193

>>
Its not. Spoonfeeding should be a bannable offense. The only times it is even borderline acceptable is if you need to find the name of a highly obscure 1960s anime or manga or you need help finding the name of a doujin that just can't be found with a simple Google search (because everything nowadays is a Google search away).
>>
>>133876767
Been here almost since the beginning and personally I'm over the bullshit. As long as it's not a rec thread I'll gladly give a source if I know it and it's not easily googled.

I'm all for board culture but autism should never be the basis of denying someone information. Some of us actually don't give a shit whether the info is easily obtained or not, we just hate giving sources and I personally think that's counterproductive. Feel free to disagree.
>>
>>133876767
I don't encourage spoonfeeding, but if the person searched and couldn't find it not telling them what it is just makes you a dick.

The only thing that gives consistent results is the archive, which recently lost a shit ton of data. Google results vary, yandex isn't very reliable, and searching ex is a shot in the dark.

>>
>>133879213
Leave it to a tripfag to make no sense at all.

Do you not realize how subjective it is to say "spoonfeeding is never okay - that is unless it's from the 60s".

That's retarded. Why not the 80s? Who's to say how easily known something is? You're just making up arbitrary rules.
>>
Because of all the /v/tards and shit here that want to make the board more like home. Thing is, the kind of people shouting "sauce!!" is usually the kind we wouldn't want posting here anyway.

The 'elitism' can get dickish (like people intentionally trying to fuck up searches for laughs) but damn if little things don't help. Just go to "fuck rules" boards like /tv/ and witness shit like the kuck porn that says up for hours.

>>
>>133879161
That's when you fool around with search terms and tags. Kuudere and related stuff could be useful to try, MU probably has asexual tags or something like that, or you could Google terms like "doesn't show an interest in men" with other terms to limit it to manga summaries. If you're desperate, TVTropes might have some categories for similar stuff, or MU might have some threads about it, since I think their forums have an outright rec section.
>>
>>133879363
So if I said "no results on google or yandex" for a page. would you assume I didn't try hard enough? I see no point in saying "and the archive, and ex" since those two are very unreliable. Hell, I usually just say "no google results" since Yandex is a crapshoot that has recognized a page for me a whole two times.
>>
>>133879161
It's not even an /a/ thing, finding new anime is just so goddamn easy that you can tell someone is new to the medium if they don't have a backlog already. I'm talking seriously watching anime for 3-weeks sort of new.

All you have to do is think of a show you liked and google "anime like x" and you'll see a load of discussions pop up where people give recs. This is common sense shit.

Also another thing is that the deeper you go into the medium, the more subjective people's tastes get. Even if we did rec you some shows it's no likely to help you because we all have different pallets after a certain point.

Long story short you just have to watch things on your own and decide for yourself.
>>
>>133879193
Generalfags are worse. Look at that shitty Kantai thread. It's just full of garbage that mods would easily delete if they were threads. They're all posts that break rule 6. They need to fuck off already.
>>
>>133879449
either you should show that you also tried something else specific to that image or you should post a screenshot of that google search as evidence that you're not just lazy.

showing that you know what you're doing is important.

i mean, sure, someone might feed you anyway, but someone who is averse to spoonfeeding might be more inclined to respond if you're not just a leeching newfag.
>>
>>133879356
You just have to put some thought into it. Which is exactly what /a/ wants. If you still don't get any answers, well then too bad. Try again.
>>
Being anti-spoonfeeding is literally a shitty meme from /h/ from a few years ago.

Newfags pretending to be oldfags adopted it because it made them feel smug and superior. Now even newer newfags think it's how /a/ "used to be".
>>
>>133879298
Half the time when people say that, they didn't actually try, or they tried one method and gave up (if it's in the archive, you have no excuse for asking for sauce), or you ask for proof and they post screenshots of a page full of Korean results they didn't bother Google Translating.
>>
>>133879502
>post a screenshot of that google search as evidence that you're not just lazy.
wastes image limit

So long as someone types composed and polite without an utterly generic response, and the series isn't exactly famous, I'll lend a hand.

>>
>>133879674
I've seen enough situations happen here to know that if a group begs hard enough, they will get their way. Maybe it happens on all boards but it seems especially true for /a/.

I mean we straight up have Naruto here on solely because they forced it enough. Same goes for everything else that doesn't belong. I feel like mods see /a/ differently because it's an original board.
>>
>>133879626
It is easy.
>Google
One click
>archive
Two to get into view same
>Yandex
drag and drop, possibly one click
>other searching options
One clic

Right click context menu can add more convenience.

If you don't find the source immediately you may have to spend - gasp! - upwards of two minutes looking before calling it a day and asking.
>>
>>133879502
So, who's the entitled one in this situation? The one demanding that others earn the right to have access to your knowledge, or the people just asking a simple fucking question?

This is the stupidest, most pretentious shit. This isn't a matter of board culture, it's a matter of common courtesy. If someone asks you a general knowledge question that you know the answer to, just fucking tell them.

This is along the lines of when someone asks what time it is and you get a dumb ass smile on your face and say "time to get a watch!"
>>
Why is this thread is still up? Ah, right.
>>
I don't think people appreciate just how different /a/ is from most other pockets of Western anime fandom. For the sake of having its own sensibility, I'm glad it evolved the traditions that it did.
>>
>>133879719
>I mean we straight up have Naruto here on solely because they forced it enough. Same goes for everything else that doesn't belong.
Do you actually think anime doesn't belong here just because a group of autists don't like it?
>>
>>133879588
Actually, he's right. There was no reason to sperg out about spoonfeeding before image searching, anyway, as there wasn't an actual way to acquire the answer on your own half the time.
>>
Putting all of the reasonings aside, /a/ is not a place to ask for sauce and that's all there is to it. Even if you ran out of self search options you still don't have the right to ask for sauce here, go to some other place and ask.
>>
>>133879719
If you didn't know, it's even worse on other boards.

first of all, wanting a source on reaction images doesn't happen that often. and even when it is the case you can just comb through threads and often find them in show-specific threads

>gook pages hoping to figure out the title so you can machine translate some garbled bastardization of the name!
if you have the japanese name then you shouldn't run it through machine translations, you should work your way to the official title instead which can then be plugged into amazon/wikipedia/baka-updates/ex/whatever

Saucefags crying for someone else to do their work for them and the spoonfeeders who encourage them are cancerous.

If spoonfeeding continues to be more and more accepted the quality of the board will get lower and lower as we slowly become overwhelmed by waves of newfags who don't lurk and don't bother figuring anything out for themselves. This kind of attitude is what's wrong with the Millenial generation. Unrestrained sense of entitlement. It's disgusting.

Begging for sources and spoonfeeding those who do should both be bannable offenses.

We have an entire board for them because of it now
Why won't they use it
>>
>>133878518
To be fair, half of OPT are sauce baits as the file names are random page numbers and google image search usually returns squat
>>

And fuck off, common courtesy isn't PC nonsense, it's just not being a dick.

>If spoonfeeding continues to be more and more accepted the quality of the board will get lower and lower
This conspiracy theory isn't true at all. Rec threads don't last long and when the mods are on their job they're usually stomped out.

On the other hand, merely asking within a thread is fine. Do you know why? Because it's easily ignored. When people like you get worked up and your autism triggers, your posts against someone asking for sauce derails entire threads. In these instances YOU'RE the problem. You have no self restraint.
>>
>>133879795
It's really not. It's like someone who can't find their watch at the moment, doesn't want to look for it, and so they ask you to save a little time.
>>
>>133879837
you can also change the language context which it is using for search. and then there are some genuine retards who have safe search on.

I don't think that's true. At least, most of the times I've seen it, someone will ask for sauce on something that's just beginning to make its way out of obscurity, and someone spergs out about it.
>>
>>133879852
>I'M NEW HERE, YOU MUST CONFORM TO MY NEEDS!

This is you.
>>
>>133879852
That's not entitlement, anon. Entitlement is feeling you deserve something, and while you could make some twisted logic argument that "they feel they deserve you not being stupid", no it's supposed to be something more tangible. The person begging even when the answer is easily within reach feels like they are ENTITLED to an answer. The person telling them to fuck off is doing so because that entitled brat is a CUNT.

And it has nothing to do with narcissism. What the fuck do you think narcissism means?

>>133879856

>>
>>133879852

I think you're confused about what entitlement means.

If you feel you are ENTITLED to an answer to your every question and that anyone who holds you to a higher standard and expects you to learn to get said answer yourself is "an entitled narcissistic douche," then it is most definitely you who has an overblown sense of entitlement. That narcissistic douche is actually trying to help you in the long run, and to preserve the quality of the place you are trying to shit up and turn into one giant newfag Q&A session.
>>
>>133879852
>Uh, yeah, he is. If you're demanding that people prove themselves to you just to get you to answer a simple fucking question, you're an entitled, narcissistic douche.
What am I acting entitled to? The knowledge I already have? You're just throwing around insults without bothering to think if they apply.
>>
>>133879908
>Because /a/ has gone to shit lately
Has nothing to do with recs and everything to do with mods allowing generals galore.
>>
>>133878747

you don't want this board turn into a normalfag shithole filled with flipfag weebs, tumblrinas or MAL retards do you?
>>
>>133879828
No, it's just that people shouldn't have to jump through hoops and prove themselves to you to get you to answer a question that would take half a second to give. To demand that of people IS entitled.
>>
If Naruto fans were willing to lobby for years to be let inside, that indicates something way further than simply enjoying a show. It indicates a group wanting to make a statement with their mere presence. That they see themselves as interlopers, and that they're proud of this.

generals aren't a new problem though. enforcement has varied throughout the years. most of the time mods have been lazy with some occasional crackdowns.

Okay, fine. And I would totally be okay with that, if it were a friend, or even if it were one guy on the subway asking me once. But if you're in a room with a hundred people and twenty of them keep standing up individually to ask if anyone has the time because they don't want to find their watch, pretty soon people are going to start telling them to find their watches instead of bothering everyone else to save their own time.

That is one of the most laughably pseudo-intellectual things I've ever read.

You are posting on a fucking imageboard about discussing Chinese cartoons. By refusing to answer people's simple questions you're causing them a minor inconvenience at best, not witholding some earth-shattering wisdom. People aren't going to do shit for you, and that's why people continue to ask for sauce. Because they don't give a shit. This is why I call your line of thinking narcissistic- because it runs on the assumption that you and the ultimately meaningless knowledge you happen to have somehow puts you in some sort of elevated position.
>>

You are infuriatingly retarded, and can't seem to be bothered to look up the correct meanings of English words, nevermind the sources of images, but you are certainly right about this.

People who demand sauce do it because they don't give a shit. About rules or board culture, or the overall quality of the community they are shitting up.
>>
Why are you people responding to this thread still
>>
>>133880197
It's going to happen regardless of whether or not you rec someone the anime/manga.

Some shows are just destined to get popular from the moment the anime adaption is announced.
>>
>>133880200
converting existing things into a new file format is not OC, nor does Hiro have anything to do with it
>>
>>133880118

Which I guess is the angle most of you were going for, "If I act like a completely irredeemable asshole, then newfags won't want to participate on /a/!", but now you guys are complaining that there aren't enough people to participate in group activities and other stuff like that so your plan didn't work.

We live in an age where you are able to be proactive and not have to rely on others, and you get mad that someone requests you be proactive. You think the person who wants you to learn a skill (searching IS a skill) is being self-absorbed, you don't assume they're trying to help you so you never HAVE to ask questions in the first place.

And for the record, I ASK QUESTIONS. When I run out of options, or completely hit a wall, I ASK. And quite often, someone answers. I'll answer people in that position, too.

It's almost like extremes aren't necessary and you can in fact have the best of both worlds: the ability to quickly get an answer yourself rather than bothering others, or the option to ask when there are no solutions.

It really depends on the reason they had to ask and how they ask it.

Let's say anon sees a neat webm of an anime, and now wants to know the source. If he ignores the filename, disregards an image search, and doesn't look at the context of it being posted, then the only answer he's entitled to is how much of a faggot he is. If he does exhaust these options and is still at a loss, then he should explain that he couldn't find it on his own and ask politely for help.

This is an anonymous imageboard; we don't have Reddit Gold or karma as an incentive to be helpful, so self-reliance is always something that should be pushed.
>>
>>133880226
/a/ metathreads bring up interesting points sometimes.

Stop being a shitter and just ignore it if you're incapable of actually discussing things.
>>
>>133880263
It has to be extreme self-absorption to be narcissism, like a legitimate mental problem. Just thinking you're better than someone else doesn't make you a narcissist. You aren't a narcissist for thinking someone doing something stupid is being stupid.

That said, claiming it's about "being better than someone else" is completely missing the point in the first place.
>>
>>133880155
Most people agree that Naruto is bad but there are also many who consider the show as salvageable. It's not at the same level as Rail Wars for example.

People really need to learn that secret clubs are an absolutely necessary thing in a fandom as prone to cancer as the anime fandom. Have you been around the Con crowd? Glanced even remotely at Gaia and ANN's forums? Hell, ever glance at another board when they're discussing anime? That slight hump, that slight barrier to entry prevents those types of faggots from entering and directs them to the cesspool hugboxes they wish to fester in. Do you want people who can barely use a search engine to be the same people you discuss things with on a daily basis?
