this whole anime is terrible. i fucking loath it to death. by the end of season one they gave up on trying to make people get into the music scenes and just skipped them altogether.

the characters are forgettable, the story is boring, the music fucking sucks (from an entertainment perspective and it only comes across as try-hard shit in this anime). i honestly have no clue wtf kyoani was thinking. they probably thought an anime could be successful based on eye-candy alone.

I was reading somewhere that in their infinite wisdom (I'm saying that sarcastically), they actually bought this IP, that's why they're pumping so much effort into it, but imho it was a huge blunder. (I think they're even going to make a movie for it). They're trying very hard to ram this polished turd down people's throats, so I'm just waiting patiently until this trainwreck of a series is over and praying they move on to better things.

A long time I go I saw an article somewhere that in Japan, many young girls joined the light music club at their schools because of K-On.

I'm going to guess that old farts and tight-asses gave KyoAni shit for it (you know, people that never watch anime..), like KyoAni was contributing to the "decline of japanese culture", or whatever similar nonsense, so that's why they decided to buy the intellectual rights to this story about "classic music bands", thinking it would have the same impact as K-On.

tl;dr I think someone guilt-tripped them into making this terrible anime (Euphonium), but that's just my speculation.

I don't hate it to the extent you do, but I feel roughly the same way. Characters really didn't sell me, story was dull and, in the end, felt like it went nowhere. I stayed on board because I thought the lesbian thing was gonna pan out, and the show seemed, to me, like it was gearing up to be a pretty good drama about a lesbian girl realizing she was a homo and having to deal with judgement from her classmates and family, but no turns out it was nothing.

Idk what it is, K-On is one of my favorite shows and it arguable has less going on in every way, but there is just a certain charm Euphonium lacks. I feel like it left out the goofiness, and tried to go a serious direction, but wound up with a meandering story with no distinct direction. I can totally respect people who like it, because there are definitely good elements, but in the end I felt really let down.
