So, how does it make you feel that this masterpiece may or may not be finished? Honestly, it really upsets me just knowing that I might have to wait at least a decade for it to end. I hate you Kentaro Miura, for making the best damn manga I've ever read and refusing to sit down and finish it.

Berserk will never be ruined like qny other long manga series because Miura knows where he is going since the beginning. Kubo is currently improvising Bleach for quite a long time.

Berserk is being released monthly now, at least until Miura runs out of his buffer. We're getting a new chapter next week.

But to answer your question, it feels remarkably like when I was waiting for the Dark Tower. If you'd like to see some major progress towards a Berserk conclusion, all we need is for someone to run Miura down with a minivan

If you're an animefag, watch the TV series first (the remastered bluray version). The remake film trilogy is garbage. You can watch the final of the three afterward if you'd like to see a little of what happens after the TV series' ending.
>>
>>133825781
Anime is only good if you watched it growing up, it's really low budget and ugly compared to the manga, the only good part is the ost.

>>
>>133825866
Ugly? No. The only QUALITY in the TV series were the rare distant objects which they didn't expect people to be able to see clearly. The low budget resulted in cheap/nonexistent animation. The artwork itself is beautiful.

Rewatch episode 13 in 1080p. It has a lot of panning and shaking paintings, but they have better artwork that you'd get out of any modern action anime. WebM not related.

>>
>>133826824
The movie's only redemming quality is that the cinematography is well handled, and that it does look very good at times, usually when not a ton of movement is going on. But at other times, the CG shit looks completely fucking awful, the story itself wasn't executed as well as the anime, and the voice acting was bland compared to the anime. Manga still reigns supreme uber alles.

This was actually something I didn't mind. Wylad, and everything he did, and everything associated with him, was crap.

Just having them be chased by Midland's soldiers and then having Griff's condition exposed by some captain was much better than 20 minutes of pointless tryhard edgy filler with some clowny bad guy character
>>

The whole point of the fucking character was an full introduction of what apostles were and Gut's ability to handle one with his own human hands.

Okay, granted. I still didn't like his characterization. It was fucking gay, and felt out of place. He belongs in the same category as captain kekbeard of the squid monster pirate ship. Characters like that have no place in Berserk.

He's an apostle, he fits perfectly. Bringing misery and being a dick towards everyone around him, but I do agree with the squid bit.

He was too happy-go lucky and goofy for a serial raping sadist. Cartoony. Mustache twirler. Out of place.

Uh, no. You're wrong. Wyald, and other villains like Emperor Ganishka and Griffith/Femto fit in perfectly in Berserk. They show that the Berserk world is a shithole, and the villains in it are disgustingly evil. Those characters, like any good villains, help establish the series morality and tone, as much as, if not more, than the heroes.

>>133828163
Did you read scanlatoins or the 'official' translation?
Darkhorse a shit
>>
>>133828163
He was "goofy" because of him being a hedonistic ape-man. Not in spite of it. His goofiness, and careless attitude towards the lives of his own men and telling them not to fear death, was to contrast with his behavior after Guts mortally wounded him. He showed he was a really a coward and hypocrite, who acted goofy and careless because he thought that there was no threat to him from a "mere" human. After Guts proved him wrong, he crumbled, and exposed how utterly afraid of death and void he was.
>>
>>133828287
True. And that was another of the series' lower plotlines. However imho it made more sense in her case, and was less jarring, because she had the whole Never Never Land thing going on. It made sense for her to have a childish and optimistic side to her.

>>133828497
I can't argue with that. But I still think, even in that regard, he was overdone, and too cartoony. Some of his in-combat lines felt like they were straight out of a villain's script from a some nickelodeon superhero show.
>>
>>133829350
Like how he was actually a frail old man only acting like he was an out of control ruffian, so he was even more in denial of his age and mortality?
>>
>>133830387
Yea exactly. They did the same thing in My Life as a Teenage Robot.
>>
>>133827710
I think Wyald was pretty crucial to the storytelling despite going so over the top. Aside from easing Guts into fighting apostles (and let's not kid ourselves, the absurd mosnter battles are an integral part of Berserk's appeal), it introduced Griffith to the idea that if he chucks his humanity, it doesn't matter how broken his body is. He'll go straight to the top of the food chain.

Being disgraced in front of his soldiers only does so much. Griffith has to start thinking about how he could fix it, and how anything less means he'll get trampled by the very real monsters in his world. Without that shit festering in his mind, he's just another dick who betrays everyone.
>>
>>133830562
And Cloud tried to be Guts in Kingdom Hearts, but that has nothing to do with whether it was good.
>>
>>133830993
Yea, I'm wrong when I argue that Wylad served no purpose in the plot. You and other anons have made that very clear.

However I still think his actual characterization was poorly done, for the reasons I've said. Nobody's been able to dissuade me of that.
>>
>>133831261
Don't you mean Vincent?
>>
>>133831307
No, he's just borrowing pieces of his clothes for a Guts cosplay, adding straps to his upper arm to imitate the cannon arm. Look at his outfit. Instead of suspenders he's got the same single strap across the torso where Guts keeps his throwing knives. That retarded hip armor? The pouch Guts keeps his spare gunpowder and stuff in.

Why do you think he's trying to stop a silver-haired former war hero who snapped and caused a massacre to become a god while battling his inner darkness or whatever? It's not just Mr. T and Star Wars, Square borrows everything all the time. Sometimes it's better for it.

wait what?, explain this to me

The manga is currently being published in my country

we are at volume 14 right now, i tought the manga was already over and that's why they started plublishing it here

10 years, really?

The editorial that is publishing berserk in my country is also publishing one piece every month(we currently have 10 out of 79 volumes)

That means the editorial is going to catch up with one piece before finishing berserk
>>
Even if Berserk was on a straight monthly schedule with no hiatus, it would take 5 or so years on pure story progress. There is no conceivable way for Guts to beat Griffith/Femto right now, not to mention the other God Hands.

Are you fucking joking? The one commandment of the apostles is "Do as thou wilt," meaning do whatever the fuck you want.

You want to rule a town and eat people? Go for it. You want to play fairies and kidnap kids? Have fun with that. You want to have a decades long rape and murder spree? Sounds great. You want to change the world? Here's the tools to do it.

Becoming an apostle isn't about being deep or serious or having some grand plan. It's an escape. It's pure wish fulfillment.

If pretending to be some honorable warrior in search of epic battles is what gets them off, then they should by all means indulge themselves. You should not be be fooled though; Grunbeld, Locus and even Zodd are no more venerable than the rest of the monsters. Deep down, every apostle is some fuck up that couldn't deal with reality. They tore out their own heart so they could live in a twisted fantasy. Whether it's taking over the world or fucking peasants and howling at the moon.

If you think all of the apostles should fit some dark and sinister mold or even that their goals and machinations should be particularly well thought out, you have missed the entire point. Any random schmuck on the street could be an apostle. All it takes is a bad day and a willingness to throw everything away.

I don't know. I guess that's the same story told over and over in different ways, and that would definitely be an exception. Lower form of storytelling imo. Who-done-its and mystery oriented stories can get away with that more easily. But, for example, Berserk isn't that kind of story, and can't do that without ruining itself. What would Berserk be if it ended up being 100 reboots of the moth apostle chapter, or the sea god chapter.

Read Berserk: The Prototype. It's pretty clear Miura had specific ideas in mind when it came to plot and themes. Whether or not those changed over the decades he's worked on a single manga is an entirely separate issue.

Oh, i read the Prototype so long ago, i just forgot everything in it, only that guts had a cool thing in his eye that looked like a pirate. Thanks for the advice
>>
>>133840569
That's called foreshadowing and setting the tone, establishing Guts knows about and is fighting transforming monsters with a hidden, explosive weapon in his left arm. The one that gets revealed to turn the tide near the end of the chapter. Even if you forgot the Prototype set up all of this before, this is basic storytelling 101.

Do people seriously get confused by the very first chapter of Berserk?

>>133849009
I'm serious, though. The second she comes back she'll beg to go back to being a retard. When she finds out she can't, she'll blame Guts. Guts, having went through hell to protect her for years, will realize that she will never be able to live a normal life ever again. She will be too fucked up in the head. So he'll mercy kill her.
>>
>>133849118
Or something like she'll just try to kill herself. This will be the turning point for Guts to get revenge, and to protect his new band of hawks.
>>
>>133849118
Then she is gonna use the Beheilit to become an Apostle and join Griffith, but she will be unable to sacrifice Guts because the Mark will protect him or he will kill her before she can use it.
>>
>>133849118
They're going to just have to erase her memories of what happened. Otherwise she'll just inevitably pop back into retard mode from the trauma of remembering it all over again.

Guts can then just explain everything to her afterwards, probably leave out a few details.

We'll find out in about another 10 years.
>>
>>133850595
But Griffith would probably restore her memories just fuck with Guts, then she would hate Guts for changing her memories and stop trusting him.
>>
>>133850718
There's no indication that Griffith can change people's memories. Even if he could, pretty sure she'd hate Griffith for raping her a lot more than she'd hate Guts for trying to bring her back to health. It's not like he'd be doing it as deceit, he'd be doing it for her own good so that she wasn't traumatized anymore. Caska's not retarded (normally), she'd understand that.

You seem like you're convinced that Caska is going to die or hate Guts or join Griffith or something else bad. Don't really see why that would need to happen.
>>

I was thinking Griffith might change her memories so that she tought Guts was the one responsible for everything.
Also the reason why I say Casca is gonna betray Guts is because unless something happens to her Guts will probably just stay in Elfheim and live his life with her,we've alredy seen him starting to lose some of his bloodlust so I think the author might pull something of the sort to make Guts go after Grifith again.

If he could do things like that he'd just make Guts blame himself and become suicidal.

Putting Guts back into angry bloodlust revenge mode would be negating all of the character development that he's been building towards. I'm not really sure what reason Guts will have for not staying in Elfhelm, but I really doubt it will be a matter of going back to edgy nihilist Guts to solve that problem.

>tfw he doesn't return and instead stays to become a farmer
>Griffith's army ravage his farm
>Guts kills himself

Well, seeing as how Gut's character has been evolving more towards an ethic of protecting what he cares about instead of revenge, he may have to end up protecting Elfhelm. He doesn't necessarily have to leave, Griffith will probably bring the fight to him, since I doubt Griffith would allow Elfhelm to exist unless it was under his command.

But wasn't that the point regarding the idea of evil?Guts doesn't believe in anything besides himself and doesn't blame anyone for his misfortunes besides his lack of strength,so he is a perfect counter for it.

Yeah you're right, just a thought anyways, but I still believe something will happen to Casca,if it's good or bad is up in the air.
