Game takes place in 2015, and the protagonists are at least fifteen to eighteen years old. F/SN takes place in 2004 as a reminder. People fanon this, but you'd have to be odd to think it was serious.

They cannot be a future, since the entire plot of G/O is that the world dies next year, and there is no future.

If they were from an alternate good future, then that alone creates a circular paradox where they can't exist as well. Don't try to bullshit this harder just to create a reason for the fanon.
