>[HorribleSubs] Gakusen Toshi Asterisk - 08 [720p]
Is this show dead?
T E N + T H R E E
Holy shit what a fucking piece of shit, this series can't be worse than this crap and seems like that's the reason why this haremshit is flopping so hard even on LN sells.
This episode was nothing but wet steaming dogshit.
I suppose it doesn't say anything good about me that I can't help but be drawn to girls that show a minimum of enthusiasm.
Good animation they said, top of the season they said.
I've been really enjoying this show ever since the fourth episode but holy shit I actually almost fell asleep watching this one today.
And that's honestly really fucking odd considering both Saya and Kirin are my favorite characters in this show.
Holy fuck, this bitch gave me a boner. What a lewd body.
Best girl, best episode yet. Based Yukarin finally getting a role after being off my radar for way too long was a very pleasant surprise. Good to know she's not out of the running just yet.
>the eririshit clone has tits
>100x better than the flat tsun shit
Still nothing compared to Megumi.
I thought I was watching Valkyrie Drive or something.
>We're so evil and scheming so we will talk in the night with lights off
Exactly what I wanted.
This is A-1 saying pretty much fuck it we're a month out from the end of our cour, we have one popular character so lets just milk the fanservice on her completely to the end. Everything and everyone else is completely irrelevant and they might as well just do a full on main heroine swap now if they haven't already. Might as well just commit to the full on heroine swap at this point since it's the Kirin show now.
It's just another typical shitty battle harem anime. Now that they've figured out the character otaku respond to after last weeks episode the whole thing is going to revolve around her. They're even doing half anime original episodes around her just to salvage this shit and it'll likely work even if it means the show barely gets adapted anymore.
It's 24 ep, and season 2 confirmed with another 24.
( ) tentacle jungle
( ) beach
( ) onsen
( ) all girls episode
filler episodes covered:
(x) date in the city
oboy we are on one hell of a ride
It's 12 + 12. For whatever reason Aniplex and Bandai Namco seem to think this show holds tremendous potential. They're already making a video game adaptation for it and Aniplex committed straight up to it and even announced it at one of the American cons like it was this big major announcement that just had to be done on an international stage instead of in Japan like usual.
I knew I heard Yukarin's voice in there.
But what a waste if she's original
It should at least get an excellent dub as IS did.
IS was never good, it was multiracial waifu material and just that.
/a/ also said Rakudai was going to be a hit and look now. If it I has luck it will barely reach 3500 copies sold.
>/a/ also said Rakudai was going to be a hit
I haven't been on /a/ for two seasons (just been, y'know actually watching the anime) but is that actually true?
People hyped the fucking battleacademy harems?
After what I can only assume were the total bombs of dragonrar, blade dance, trinity 7, etc in the seasons before?
Well like I said at this point they just seem to be trying to salvage the season with maximum fan service and exploiting the shows most and possibly only kind of popular character to date with full throttle fanservice. It's the same kind of thing they did with Saekano and it worked well enough there so I guess we'll see what happens in another couple months. I fully expect it to sell at least 1.5-2 times whatever it's stalker estimate is because of the Aniplex padding effect. Some Japanese fans speculate when their shows are half flopping they like to buy back part of their own stock to save face as they seem to have this obsession with trying to portray themselves as number 1 all the time.
Both sides were fueled by shitposters but Rakudai unfortunately had two or three actual autistic fucks genuinely hyping it up. Nobody on /a/ actually expected much from these shows aside from the fact that they were going to get more budget/better staff than the average LN adaptation.
I love it when Aniplex thought their project is some kind of bigshot.
The shows BD sales were a mediocre 6-7K average when it pulled out pretty much all the stops in terms of mega hyped staffing, casting and advertising. That show was supposed to be the biggest thing they've done to date clearly with how much went into it's marketing campaign and all the posters all over Akihabara and TV specials they pulled out at the time. They also made it clear that they were going after Gundam but to my knowledge the show never really had any successful merchandise and actually sold worse on Blu-Ray than even G-Reco. It's going to be forgotten faster than Star Driver and Guilty Crown. When it comes to originals A-1 should really just stick to the weepy melodrama teen youth anthem stuff, it's about all they're good at.
It's pretty impressive how it's sales went steadily downhill into the second season. Unsurprisingly the Gen Urobuchi written episodes on the first volume did by far the best of any of them and it's the only time I've ever really seen a 1st volume BD start with 3 episodes on it. It's just so crystal clear that they banked practically everything about this project on Urobuchi's name for branding and wanted to make sure all the episodes made it onto that one disc. After he left they had absolutely no idea what to do with the project other than to keep trying to work his name like he was still involved and maybe rely on Sawano hype. Show had piss poor planning beyond the marketing campaign, just like Asterisk is looking.
>The shows BD sales were a mediocre 6-7K average
Those aren't shitty sales.
Anything below 3500 is shit.
Want to know about mega hyping everything about a show yet sold like shit?
>Nagi no Asukara
>PA Works's 20th anniversary project
>hiring a top artist like Buriki
>the most ambitious project of the studio in its story
>Mari Okada the writer idol
And what they got?
1500 sales on the first week which made them starts a truly aggressive publicity that included hiring a famous press writer to write about their shit which only got praise on music and their usual porn scenary which is your average PAW.
And a month after reached about 5000 and I doubt the inversion paid off.
When you look at the drop off it's like almost a third of the shows sales pretty much came from the Urobuchi branding. That doesn't help at all with merchandising since it's not like they can claim Urobuchi personally made the figurines or trinkets himself or something. I also liked the model kit line that was promised early into the shows run when they were expecting a monster Gundam slaying hit again ostensibly cause Urobuchi, but that never materialized and was never mentioned again by Aniplex in any of their marketing. I don't even think it managed to get so much as a video game adaptation though there was a short live Slaine manga, the character that much like Kirin they decided to bank everything they could on in the second cour because it was evidently clear he was the only character people were even remotely responding too.
It is when it's like the biggest show you've done to date and you've set your target at Gundam and are milking every big name that's ever worked for you. They can't have made too much money off of the project for all that went into it since again it pretty much had zero merchandising. Even Saekano did decently with merchandise, it was a more successful show for A-1 easily.
It's okay anon, some people just don't understand that having a magic number over some arbitrary amount doesn't mean your show is some sort of smash success or even success. Imagine if economics and calculating net profits were actually that simple though and every shows production costs and marketing campaigns operated at the same flat rate of close to 0.
You can't really. A-1 going to A-1. In their minds the last few weeks have been about fixing it, it's called find the breakout character and make everything revolve around them as much as possible.
With more Kirin and Claudia and Cutting Board.
I wonder why they just didn't ask him to do the whole script like he did for Gargantia.
That would have saved them from the mess of the second half.
I wsh there was more Saya and less shy moeblob
I don't even know why I keep watching this.
Kirin was nice at first but now she's just annoying.
Not enough Julis anymore.
Also they only have like 5 episodes left so at best we'll get 5 matches.
Saya saved this episode a little for me.
I guess I'm just passing time till
I'm inclined to agree but if this is going to continue, I'd rather not have the 2 cours. Boring fights so far, you'd think they'd be able to afford to rush these mundane parts.
Gargantia was just supposed to be another Bandai Visual mecha original starter series, not some egotistical producers vanity project to try to stick it to his former companies biggest franchise. It's funny because they seem perfectly content to work with Sunrise and it's parent company nowadays with the whole Daisuki initiative of which Asterisk is a part, but I don't know if that partnership was decided before Ueda started with the shit talking or after.
If anything I expect them to up the amount of screen time Kirin gets and the rest of the cast to be further forgotten. From what I understand this episode is borderline anime original just to give her more screen time. I still remember when A-1 started to go all anime original with the first season of Magi when it becoming clear that the characters people were responding most too were Alibaba and Sinbad.
Manabu Ono's light novel adaptation career
>Go to Sunrise/Bandai Visual->Make adaptation of middle tier popular LN series Horizon->20K sales
>Go to Madhouse/Aniplex->Make adaptation of smash hit tier popular LN series Mahokua->10K sales
> Go to A-1/Aniplex->Make adaptation of low tier popular LN series Asterisk->5K sales?
Boy I bet all these people from Sunrise, J.C Staff and Kyoani's stable that went to work for Aniplex projects over the last couple of years after working on some really well received works for other producers are really loving that decision.
Cause they've clearly decided nobody cares about anybody that isn't Kirin anymore. The only time the shows sales have noticeably gone up in a given week have been the episodes that focused on Kirin, nothing else is really working.
I waited for this.
>Anime didn't keep Violet's DFC
You had one job, A-1.
Takahiko Kyogoku's anime directing caeer
>Go to Sunrise/Bandai Visual->Make Love Live School Idol Project anime->25K sales
>Go back to Sunrise/Bandai Visual->Make Love Live School Idol Project season 2->New record for best selling BD, 3rd best average overall for the decade so far, new records for CD sales, project explodes into a social phenomenon
>Go to Sunrise/Bandai Visual->Make Love Live The School Idol Movie->Franchise somehow manages to become even more popular->New record for best grossing late night anime movie that eclipses Madoka's and is still building towards 3 Billion yen worldwide.
>Go to A-1/Warner Bros to work on GATE->5K sales average->Questions what he's even doing there and claims to hate the team he's working with and that things are already well behind schedule in a tweet that broke 2 weeks before show goes to air
I disagree. Saya and her other foil rival made this episode super interesting and relaxing. Rakudai tries too hard with each episode, it's distasteful in comparison to Asterisk.
When are more people going to realize that A-1 is fucking dog shit despite all their hyping, branding, advertising, promises and early series enhanced budgets? Hit or miss at absolute best is what I'd give them maybe, but they're just so far up their own ass and make so many stupid decisions with how to approach their projects and schedule things that it's probably a testament to how stupid and gullible anime fans are nowadays that they've managed to stay solvent as an enterprise and generally praised despite reported large consecutive drops in operating income since 2013 despite all the shit that's gone on in the last couple years with botched adaptations of major properties that really shouldn't have been, killing their animators via overwork and just being incapable of holding a proper schedule do to overloading on samey projects in what looks like a quantity over quality attempt to cash in on the whole swords and sorcery fantasy phenomenon and/or melodramatic crying anime while it's still hot and the most famous staffers for the genres are still available.
Anyway the reported drop in their income coincides with their decision to start taking on 5-6 or so projects every fiscal quarter and fuck their scheduling hard so in their infinite wisdom they'll no doubt double down on that approach for a third consecutive year in 2016 and somehow still win best studio of the year from Newtype and be the darling of sites like MAL and Crunchyroll.
Rakudai was boring as shit until this episode and now it's going to go back to boring with the arc villain not being relevant anymore
>introduce a 10/10 q t
>have her tease the girl that ran into by accident
>it's not even bullying
>have shit character physically assault her
>make her lose in 1 hit
>she'll probably never show up again
God I hate this piece of shit show
This kind of blunt but sincere honesty reminds me of a certain character. Either way, I like it.
>have shit character physically assault her
This was the worst. I mean, it would've ended in a duel regardless, but throwing the first punch and still winning in one shot is annoying to watch.
>Cute loli buys her gun from a shady and illegal shop
>Has to walk through a dark alley full of shady thugs and criminals
The doujin writes itself.
But those are good traits for her. Julis is understanding and aboveboard because she follows a code of ethics. But being a hothead gives balances through contrasts to make her not stiff and boring.
Here's your reply. Except she is a complete and proper classic tsundere, a good one at that.
>I'm saying both shitposters are just as bad, one for bringin up unrelated girl and the other for amusing him, moron
Yes, because someone coming out of the woodworks talking shit is on the same level as someone telling him to fuck off. Also, the "amusement" only lasted for about 2 replies.
Violet is from the Queenvale gaiden manga series. She should be dfc, damn it.
No, someone coming out of the woodwork to talk shit is on the same level as the other shitposter playing his game and dragging down another girl to incite waifuwars in response.
Mate, there have been 2-5 battle harems every season for a long friggin' time and most of them either sold just enough or okay, and pretty much all of them have been mildly enjoyable at best.
I can only think of three or four off the top of my head that sold worth a damn.
>Dat classy ojou-sama voice
Her voice is made for sex.
>The reason is the genre has been famous older than you think.
I think her being understanding is that she's dealt with kids a lot. Her code of ethics ensures that she does the right thing. I love her character. She's a noble girl, but she isn't completely pompous or an asshat about it. Though I really want to see her a situation where she has to choose between her morals and beliefs or someone's life. Those sort of situations are always interesting.
I-Is she okay?
vandread, tenchi series, that louise baka to test season 1, zero no tsukaima and many other. actually even bakemonogatari can be classifed as battle harem though
Older franchise like tenchi etc is harder to find the sales number.
I'm taking this side because one shitposter is pretending Megumifags were at fault when none of this would have happened if the first shitposter hadn't talked shit about her first, probably as "revenge" for Eriri being insulted. He is just as bad. All in all, this is just living proof of how terrible the Sakeano fanbase is overall. Poiting fingers is stupid.
Now, enough derailment already.
Being around orphans when she was a kid helped made her understanding and not pompous. And as a princess, she wanted to do right by her friends and her people in general. She basically had to mature quickly so she could protect her precious friends from the situation they faced
>Though I really want to see her a situation where she has to choose between her morals and beliefs or someone's life. Those sort of situations are always interesting.
Bakemonogatari had like what? 2 fight scenes?
And both of them were under 2 minutes, with the entire remaining airtime being people talking with interesting backgrounds.
It's not a friggin battleharem.
This. The show was trash, but the MC was pretty hilarious and it had it's moments.
Flat is justice. Flat will always prevail.
The Saekano fanbase is horrendous just like most fanbases Aniplex caters too since they're mostly Light Novel/Visual Novel fanboys that think their favorite genre work it's gods gift to literature when it's usually just some overwrought ecchi fanservice thing with droning dialogue that's boring as sin to most people outside of the diehard otaku community.
Lantis is also doing its best to tie it to idolMaster Cinderella Girls via the casting choices and apparent music theme so I expect good music sales and that to boost the anime disc sales by proxy.
What kind of SLUT goes to a public beach in a micro bikini?
This is some doujin shit right here
Every week I watch this show hungover and wonder what the hell I'm watching til some fan service pops on screen. then I wake up more and kind of remember what its about. not the worst show but probably something we'll all forget about within a month after it ends.
Not having read the LN at all I can only assume the last episode of this cour will be all "And now, the festa begins". Followed by 5 or 6 episodes of that and remaining ones being plot twists and who gives a shit.
>Worried that the show might drop the ball after Kirin's arc
>Worried that Kirin might not get enough screentime now that her arc is over
>Full Kirin and saya fanservice episode
She keeps saving this show, Its like the guys at A-1 know exactly what I want.
Episode 8 was boring as hell though. Episode 6 and 7 were good because of the cool sword duel between Ayato and Kirin. Cool swords fights are always nice.
I don't think it's just a coincidence, they're full aware who the character people respond most to now. It would not surprise me if the rest of the show revolves around giving her as much screen time and fanservice as possible since that's all the show has going for it at this point. From what I understand this part of the arc wasn't even supposed to feature her much but they literally seem afraid to go any length of time without her now that it's a month out to the first BD release. Guaranteed a week before it's out they go full throttle Karin fanservice and the rest of the female cast gets like half her screen time combined if that?
You can't blame them when a side character is stealing the show when the main girl is a typical cliched tsundere only there to fill up the main girl quota and fails to carry her own show. It's like Char from IS all over again.
Didn' they pretty much try to do the same with Rory in GATE last season. I remember her getting introduced and suddenly the show was all about getting her as much screen time and fanservice as possible. Anna in Shimoneta it felt kind of similar.
Yeah, I agree that eps 7 and 8 were great because of the fights but I still liked it because it was cute.
Would have preferred more fights with Kirin in them but this is good too.
>They're fully aware of what the viewers want so they're giving us what we want
I'm perfectly okay with this.
The world would be great if everything worked this way.
Hold back on the delusion, anon. Kirin getting some fanservice episodes is the most she'll get. There is no way the director is going to stoop low enough to give her more than that. Plot and doing a good adaptation takes priority, and he has done a fine job at that so far.
You don't have to ruin the plot of a show to give a character more screentime.
Just stick him/her in a few scenes where it wouldn't matter to the story/plot if the character was there or not.
This is why nobody really seems to have any respect the Light Novel Battle Harem genre in the long run except for the same old kinds of people that only consume light novel tripe as their sole Japanese media diet. Unfortunately those are the only people really propping up the late night for night anime scene in Japan right now and the Western internet scene is pretty much full of people who figure retarded things like how if it doesn't have fanservice it isn't worth their time and isn't proper anime. At this point the late night scene particularly Aniplex's Saturday block relies on their low standards and willingness to accept terrible storytelling, pacing and characterization as long as it caters to their fetishes at steady intervals. See for example Charlotte, This show, Gate, Aldnoah, Fate and a whole bunch of other shit I'm probably forgetting rather easily.
Wanna fucking bet. I'd sooner see A-1 going anime original just to go with the only things that have been remotely working for the show up to this point. They don't give a solitary shit about doing a faithful adaptation or anything like that, only what can make them money. This particular series composer has done it before when working with them like with Magi. Really Hiroyuki Yoshino's only solution to everything is more fucking fanservice.
>People mistaking fanservice episode for a Saya and Kirin episode to help flesh them for the upcoming Festa
Idiots. Volume 3 will finally tackle the underlying plot moving to what the premise is mainly about, which is the Festa. Ayato and Julis had development together as a team, but Saya and Kirin lacks it. The anime added what was needed to make it fair. That's all.
If it were like that, then it'll be fine. But not what the other anon was implying.
I'll take that bet. There is just no way Manabu would allow it. Director has the final say, not the series composer. Besides, the anime has been doing good since the first episode. Remove your waifu goggles please.
It really don't mind it as long as the director doesn't take an extreme favoritism for one character, like the Railgun director did for Saten. He went as far as changing the order of the events from the manga in order to give Saten the maximum screentime and protagonism possible. Not enough with that, he also added new scenes and replaced other characters with Saten in other scenes. Let's not even talk about the anime-original arcs where he pretty much made Saten a mary sue, a 10/10 wife/mother material and the unique superspeshal character that saves the day.
>Besides, the anime has been doing good since the first episode.
yeah no. the first episode was horrible
half worst girl being a tsunbitch and the other half being boring exposition
Anon please, now you're just trolling.
Battle harem of the season since week 1 and Julis is fucking great.
Will anyone object if I post more Kirin? This thread still seems a bit lacking.
>Since week 1
>Julis is fucking great
More like she's fucking boring
Asterisk probably had the weakest first ep of everything and Julis was pretty boring because the kind of friendless girl that shuns everyone is never a good idea for a "fun" MC.
She started to get better as the anime went on but the other girls are still superior
Go ahead. She's the best and most popular girl.
Nah. She was already interesting from that awesome scene, and only gets better with each episode. She's currently the best girl and is OTP for the MC who matches well with her.
>Most popular girl
Its a magical moment when your tastes align with Japan's tastes
Having your tastes align with japan means you get pandered to and you'll get what you want because what you wish is also what japan wishes for.
If you like a character that japan hates then you're probably doomed to no art, no screentime, no relevance ever.
I'm pretty hyped for the game. Might just import it new instead off waiting a few months like I usually do.
Western anime communities is little better at this point. It largely gravitates towards watching the same kinds of shows even if the overall reception isn't necessarily identical. No matter how shitty battle harem anime are and how much people complain about the over saturation of them every season now it's still among the most routinely watched and discussed genres every single season which is great if people are just looking for ad revenue via streaming options. Meanwhile other half decent shows that aren't just LN/VN tripe get largely ignored. Internet Anime fandom is a little fucked these days that way, it's like a mild case of Stockholm syndrome almost.
These probably aren't from the the game, unfortunately.
Julis can be fun. Too bad she hasn't done anything since Ayato saved her because of that moeblob Kirin. She's cute and all but she's getting annoying very fast with her fucking Ayato-senpais
>tsun supposed main girl
>suddenly ignored in favor of lavender-haired, cowtits moeblob
What are you saying? Kirin's arc follows after Julis' arc, but Julis has been busying sparring with Ayato to better their teamwork. We are shown that and it is implied they keep it throughout Kirin's arc.
Mashiroiro was a masterpiece. More shows should follow its example by letting the tsundere bitch lose hard to the nice girl that deserves to win.
Asterisk should follow that route as well and make Kirin or Claudia win.
Yeah, this innocent smile is a beacon of purity.
Only nice things can be behind this smile
>>I thought this fanbase was supposed to be better AND smarter.
You were expecting too much then. I'm just here for the cute pictures, caps, stitches and gifs/webms.
>I thought this fanbase was supposed to be better AND smarter.
Mashiro was a masterpiece alright. At being a blunder and delivering an asspull win for the worst girl out of nowhere. Trolled fans everywhere since the show was leading on for either a Sena or Sana end since only they got development that would suggest so.
Who the hell takes off their socks like that?
What the fuck Kirin? Did your Oji-san teach you nothing?
Don't worry. Julis will have the best scene in this following arc when shit finally gets real.
It's kind of sad that he spends more time here than in Rakudai thread He rather devote time to shitpost Julis by pretending to be a Kirinfag than to fawn over his seasonal waifu.
Newest Rakudai episode showed true best girl
I think a better question is when will we see an MC that had as much class as Shingo
I'm going to miss him
I find it weird that there aren't any crazy people running around being allies of justice in this.
Genestella don't suddenly lose their powers or anything, but they drop off the radar once they turn 22 and can't compete in festas anymore.
What's up with that?
There are a lot of criminals yet no people in costume running around fighting crime.
>So much concentrated anger and shitposting.
It was what they needed. Medicine is supposed to taste bitter.
He is right, mostly. There was no shitflinging until near the end, and still it wasn't much.
And as someone said back then, the whole animal club is part of Miu's route.
Julis slowly took out her portable terminal and opened a space window.
There was a photo of two still innocent and intimate girls. One was a strong-willed girl with gorgeous rose-colored hair, and the other was a calm girl with chestnut-colored hair.
“This is me and Orphelia.”
If you understand moon, read the PSP version of the VN once you finish the anime. Sana's route is pretty good.
Nani do you mean? Miu's breasts weren't very big.
>So much concentrated anger and shitposting
The fuck? The threads were dead as fuck and most of the time they were full of people complaining about how bad it was.
