Do you generally save your downloaded episodes after you've watched them, or mostly just delete it? Is there any particular system on how you do that? For example I've got a pretty simple system that has influenced how I rate stuff:

>5 stars: Permanent archive of the entire season/series because I want to have it on hand at all times for re-watching several times in the future.
>4 stars: Temporary archive of all the current episodes in an ongoing season so I can easily refer to it and/or make screencaps when posting in threads about it.
>3 stars: Keep the previous episode on hand so I can make sure that I don't forget anything between episodes, and delete it after I've watched the current week's episode.
>2 stars: Delete upon watching, don't need it anymore and never will. Separate folder for all miscellaneous screencaps from 2-3 star series.
>1 star: Notepad files for each season/year of airing, with series name and most recent episode completed for things I've dropped midseason so I know where I left off from if I decide to pick it up again ever.

Space isn't much of a concern for me, only whether I really want to keep it on hand anymore.
>>
I ask myself "is this worth saving? did I enjoy it to that extent?"

I haven't run out of storage so I don't need to worry about that
>>
I save every series I find enjoyable, and that I believe is worthy of putting time into watching, so when my casual friends ask me for recommendations, I can give them a flash drive and be done with it. This helps for older or esoteric shows I can't show my casuals on Crunchyroll or Daisuke.

How'd you decide on that star system, OP? Have you ever had to re-download an episode because you realized too late that you wanted to watch or refer to it?
>>
>>133734998
I only save the episodes I like the most of a series, with a max of 3 episodes per series (because of storage space).
>>
>>133734998

>Do you generally save your downloaded episodes after you've watched them, or mostly just delete it?
Is it an airing anime? If I decide to follow it, I keep the episodes at least until the end of the season when I decide whether I keep the TV version or delete it.
Is it a finished anime? Depends on whether I like it or not.
>>
>>133735111
Makes sense, I don't think much about that because of the people I know irl that care at all about anime, most of them either watch dubs on TV or stream it, and the others know enough to figure shit out themselves. Nobody really relies on me.

I guess it started with a phase where I was specifically looking for older stuff, and some of them were either crazy hard to find or had almost nothing by way of seeds. I realized that a lot of the stuff I like now might go that way some point in the future, so I might as well start saving stuff now while it's still easy to do.

So in that sense, I guess it was kind of a pragmatic thing? I generally don't like making decisions that are hard to reverse later unless I'm sure that I won't regret it. If the choice is between action and inaction and one of them can be done at any time but the other can only be done once (or in a limited timeframe), I tend to choose the former more often.

Since then though, I saw that a lot of the stuff I had saved was just sitting there though, and I never got around to watching them. It's not like I needed to clear up space, but I just felt that it was kind of pointless to keep it around anymore if I hadn't even touched it by that point. So now I put a little bit more thought into it from the start.
>>
I have one folder for ongoings on my internal harddrive and one for backlogged shows on an external one, if I know it's something I'll never watch again or if I drop an ongoing, I'll just delete it.

Space is hardly an issue for anyone these days, even with 1080p Hi10 FLAC releases.
>>
>>133735173
are they just any 3 episodes you liked the most, or is it always the first 3 or some rule like that
>>

I'd store anime if older stuff wasn't so impossible to find. I only have a few dozen gigs of newer anime.
>>
>>133734998
I normally keep everything unless it was dropped. I have three hard drives. One for the eternal backlog and current shows. One is for putting shows I probably wouldn't watch again, but keep around just in case. Last one is for memorable shows I'd like to think I'll rewatch.

One folder for currently airing shows, one for backlog, and one for archive.

I only delete shows when I either decide to drop them (or decide I'll never get around to starting them in the first place), or I complete them but don't feel like archiving. Occasionally do a sweep of the archive to prune shows I know I'll never revisit.

Usually delete after watching. If I feel like watching again later there will often be a better version out by then anyway, so no point holding on to it. Especially when it's just a TV rip that is pretty much guaranteed to be superseded by the BD rip when it comes out.

If I'm going to save it later, I download it in 720p to begin with. Otherwise I just stick with 480p like usual and delete it after.

5 Stars. Massive franchises like Gundam, Macross, TYPEMOON/fate shit & LoGH get a single folder where everything is comprised and a txt file noting the chronological order of watching it all.

Seasonal shit is on a seperate hard drive entirely and is transfered over to the first hard drive if I felt it was good enough to watch again in a year or two.

I delete the files after watching / playing because I'm running out of HDD space, but I keep a huge list of shows, movies, and games for my own reference. An asterisk next to the title means I've started it; double asterisks means I've finished it. Ones that I don't like enough to finish are just deleted from the list like they never happened, but I don't do this often because I generally only add things to the list if they sound like something I'd enjoy.

I store most shows / movies in Plex to watch with friends if I'm so inclined. Otherwise I can just watch them natively on my computer.
>>
Used to save it all until storage finally became an issue. Even though it's cheap I don't feel like spending more on HDD space than I have to, so now I only safe shows which I enjoyed/might watch again/might need again for future reference, also shows which I might become obscure and hard to get by later on for their sheer rarity value. (Won't ever have a problem to get Titans somewhere, but Trapeze might be a whole other issue.)

Save just about everything I watch. Separate folder for ongoing series.

>you can get a 4tb drive for a benjamin
Why does every thread argue that there's no excuse because of how 'cheap' hdds are? 2tb is at least 100 bucks, that's not cheap for everyone letalone all the neets who like anime.

Admittedly I have 11tb worth of space but I keep plenty of stuff other than anime on it, have an autistic compulsion to back everything up, and really hate getting close to filling them up. I don't want to keep shelling out hundreds for more to save absolutely everything, and I wouldn't blame other people who don't either.

I use the Tags feature on OS X.
>>
>>133748598
What are those?
I fucking wish Windows would let me customize folders by letting me group them by custom tags (for example the name of a series).
>>
>>133748598
Enjoy losing everything to your shitty filesystem.

>>133748680
Waste of time frankly. If you want tagged shit, get something similar to a booru system and browse folders via a local webserver or application.

Havent lost a thing in 8 years buddy, nice meme tho.

I keep all the files on an HDFS cluster with a small Lucene database to keep track of series. Everything is also backed up to Amazon S3 of course.

Considered moving to Glacier to save money but the retrieval part seems too easy to fuck up.

Shanaproject automatically sorts it for you. How do you not have enough time to let a program sort it as you download it?

I only save shows that I really enjoyed and think I'll watch more than once.

Most everything I have saved I've watched multiple times.

I keep everything. It all amounts to about 780 GiB size, but I plan to go through it again, once it's at a tebibyte, to delete anything that I think is less than a 7 or 8 out of 10. Moreover, I just divide up the shows locally in alphabetical order, except for things I'm planning on watching, which I keep in a separate folder.

Even after coming back to anime after a years break, it's still giving me strong feelings of loss and wanting that made me leave it in the first place. I just don't know what's wrong with me. I used to love it, but now I think of only those things that have passed and those things that are to come.

>Stuff downloads via RSS to currently airing directory
>new episodes sync to my file sever
>I watch new episodes from wherever
>move episodes I've watched to finished directory in respective series folders
>once season is finished move them to storage HDD
>Eventually replace them with BD's if I liked the show enough
>>
I've only recently started to archive anime that I've watched. Damn, my collection is small. Can I visit your house and copy your anime?

Ha ha.
>>
>>133734998
I archive every episode of shows I'm enjoying and replace those copies with the BD copies when they come out.
Show I don't enjoy don't get archived and dropped.
>>
For seasonal anime, I'll keep the latest episode until next one comes, then delete it. Rinse and repeat until the series ends. The shows that naturally leave a strong impression long after they aired are the ones that I will remember and re-download.
>>
>>133738227
I started streaming anime for the first time because I found a job and bringing my downloaded anime in the office take too much time, and I can't tell the difference between kissanime and HS. Downloading is way better if the show have BD / is an old anime, but for ongoing show there's almost no difference.

How do I customizable folder icons pertaining to a particular show?
>>
>>133751103
I know /a/ probably does it a different way, but I find find a picture that I want to use as the icon, edit in whatever way, run it through this site

http://converticon.com/

save the .ico at the highest possible resolution, go to settings, and change it.

I'm sure there's a more efficient way, but I'm retarded when it comes to computers.

I archive everything.

Even the stuff I think is shit, even the stuff I watch 3 episodes of and drop. The internet is going to shit, store and save fucking everything you come across. Anime, books, manga, TV, movies, various manuals, textbooks, EVERYTHING.

I don't have this 12TB + 14TB for no reason. One day I'd also like to archive archives, like wayback machine and so on. Having a personal library of digital media (and scanned books etc) is great for when connection issues occur or your friendly neighborhood jew/multinational starts to fuck with the ISPs of your country vying for control of all information networks.

Tl;DR: Keep all your shit, space is cheap as fuck currently.

>>133748492

Because it's under $100 per TB. That's like ONE day at work. And it will last 5~ years and take a good couple of months to fill up. It's even easier if you're on autism bux because you're not spending money on other things.
