Blank asauchi don't have a unique crossguard. Hachi and Nanao both have been seen with what by all right should have been normal shikai capable zanpakutou, even if they haven't used them. In Nanao's case it was in a color spread and not a proper manga panel, but it was also back in the SS arc so Kubo likely had absolutely no idea what he was going to do with her at that point.

My guess is that the whole 'balance' thing is giving or taking, similar to how Yhwach functions (make people powerful, and when they die, get back the improved spiritual energy).

He had passively provided power to BazzB, so in some sense it was as if BazzB was Haschwalt's SternRitter (so maybe Ichigo does the same to his friends).
The other guess is that the balance is just the power of swapping around roles with Yhwach, so when Cang Du said 'Only his majesty can kill me!' and the balance tipped it meant it was the time for the roles to swap, technically assuming Yhwach's role and being able to kill him.

He swapped again after defeating BazzB, and immediately after that swap he got The Almighty, while Yhwach was sleeping or whatever.

Also, in my head, I believe that Superstar was originally identical to James. A small, chubby, physically weak person. Yhwach provided him with courage to become something greater, something he looked up to, and his skill involves the cheers of the small beings that replicate his original form. Lille's the most overtly broken but the others weren't as shitty as they got treated like they were. Most were defeated by plot convenience. Mayuri's zombies just happened to be loveproof. Bambietta's indiscriminate bombing tactics only failed because Komamura was briefly invulnerable. As Nodt's fear never took hold because Rukia was literally frozen solid and apparently healing bath let Byakuya just shrug it off. Similarly Renji's new training just let him kill Mask and shrug off his attacks even though he didn't do anything special offensively or defensively. And even Opie only really lost because he got blindsided while Kubo was still trying to make Blut Vene a balanced powerup.

Fun fact with Mask's design: The kanji for SuperStar are 英雄 as in "Eiyuu" which generally gets translated as "Hero." Thing is that word is a compound and borrowed from Chinese. In Japanese 英 by itself just mean "English" because when the Chinese used it it meant "outstanding/fine/bright/brave/heroic" until the British fucked mainland China up for about a hundred years straight. When the British needed to communicate with the Chinese they appropriated 英 to mean "England/English." May explain also, why Auswahlen didn't took the Schrift but only the Vollständig. It also seems like Kubo gives the Sternritter either full transformation (like Lille or Quilge), a great personality (Giselle, Bazz-B) or neither and kills the Sternritter quickly (Nianzol, Discroll).
