if anything, it goes back to that old interview 1996, where toriyama is seemingly bitter by how toei are handling goku's personality in gt, which plays into toriyama's on quirk of *always* doing the opposite of people's expectations. if toei makes goku out to be a nice guy, toriyama is going to, in turn, make him out to be an asshole. we can see the reverse with vegeta, who toriyama has gone out of his way to humanize, despite being a cold bastard. gohan is the only character who toriyama has been consistent with, which does a damn good job in spiting the character's fanbase.
