The Basara and Please Save my Earth OAV are from the 90s but I'd love to see complete adaptations of their respective manga.

Gundam 0079 with OVA quality would be good but we basically already have Origin, which I guess is essentially close enough to count and as close as we'll get to a totally-unchanged remake.

Furthermore, Basara is an epic in scope, a story of rebellion in an empire born from the ruins of a Japan devastated by war. It would be given an extremely light and soft palette because it's a shoujo. I don't think TV anime animators can draw gritty enough either and not destroy the setting. The artwork is very elegant and flowery but also dirty

I can't shake the feeling that 5 Star is kinda like Dune in that it's somewhat unfilmable. There's so much background lore that you couldn't just stop an episode to expound upon.

The only way I could see it working is if you just assumed that viewers knew or had access to the lore already and made the show 50+ episodes. Even then I'm still not sure I'd like it as much as the manga.

With all that said, I'd kind of still like to see someone give this a shot if only to shake up the malaise we seem to be trudging through right now.

I agree it would be difficult, but at the same time, LoGH and Arslan Senki work well as long-format anime, and the LotR film trilogy showed that it is possible to film an epic.

I think there's a pretty recent manga around, too, so that could work. What with her appearance in SHC and return into the spotlight for the moment.

Speaking of which, playing SHC right now and boy does Rem take the center stage in that. Her search for Shinigami Hakase is pretty bore-inducing, but she's basically leading the group together with Aria.
