They'll probably set sail but that doesn't mean this wasn't just another monthly cocktease. Anyway, the only ones that could get fucked outta a happy ending are Jellal and Natsu. With Jellal, Mashima has played with the idea of killing him off since a few notes he made for the 7year-timeskip had Jellal all fucked up originally and mentioned his farewell. And Natsu has that whole Etherious, Zeref, and being a reanimated abomination shtick that is an affront to the Gods that might get him cursed or killed at the end.

The character we were introduced to as his first true self in a mile-long list was a two-dimensional villain with backstory ties to Erza, which only served to justify his attempted sacrificial murder of her. Shounen series have a long history of reforming villains so it's not a bad idea in theory, but then we get a bullshit amnesia plotline and him trying to atone by wandering around doing fucking nothing for hundreds of chapters, when in reality he has no comeuppance and none of the characters give a damn about anything before the current arc.

He's wasted potential in the most blatant way possible. It genuinely feels like Mashima had plans for him and a story he wanted to tell, but seemingly that's all in his head, with only the edgy leftovers remaining. So instead we get Sasuke 2.0 while the series has been steadily going to shit for reasons completely unrelated to Jellal.

And I'm mad he's fucking Erza instead of literally anyone else. Give her to Gray or Natsu or whoever like other anons say, hell even Jellal's own alternate reality self is a more sympathetic and fleshed-out character.

Amnesia arc was stupid, but he was introduced post timeskip as someone who was destroying dark guilds. He has been gathering ex-criminals and they live a life of self-denial, don't know what that has to do with Sasuke. I wouldn't say he isn't edgy, but he isn't running around being an ass.

It's because fighting between guilds is prohibited. The story actually expanded on that point a bit. Around 100 years ago there was something called the Second Trade War. Wizard guilds(including the 2 year old Fairy Tail) were hired as mercenaries. The result being that when the war was concluded, it had ten times the casualties of the first trade war. The peace treaties that concluded the war banned wizard guilds from warring with one another to prevent a repeat.

So any time someone attacks a dark guild, they're technically in violation of the ban. They get off with a slap on the wrist(if even that) because it's dark guilds they're fighting, and the Council isn't quite dumb enough to crack down on people wiping out criminals for them. Especially if wrecking some small dark guild fails to generate a response from the big ones, Oracion Seis, Grimmoire Heart, and Tartaros.

Be honest, is manga any good? I don't to get invested in another long series if it's mediocre shit punctuated by spare moments of brilliance.
