Why is there so much rape in berserk?

Well it's set in a pseudo-medieval world where something even remotely close to equal rights for women would be a joke at best. It's pretty 'realistic' for his setting. Rape was a pretty common occurrence in medieval times, for both men and women.

That said, I don't think there is more or less rape in Berserk than other similar mangas. Bastard for example, probably has more. Same goes for that Berserk rip-off UbelBlatt.

Was just about to post how much I dislike Wyad, or whatever his name was.

He seems so cartoony and out of place. And the fact that his gore factor was jacked up above rest of the story just adds to the disillusion. Shitty couple of chapters.

There really isn't, it's just very memorable rape.

Tell me what you posted is as gorey as the rape and corpse mutilation from the Devil Dogs chapters.

Berserk equals that level of gore at times, but it is usually done in a tonally consistent place: the gore is a representation of the despair or terror of the situation; it's not palliative to make filler (spearheaded by some goofy clown) more interesting.

Devil Dogs chapters are the lowest point of the story. Even the Sea God arc is better.
