I honestly don't know who that is on the left And I couldn't care less.
Here's the official shitposting template for this thread.
>if you don't know generic 70's/80's mecha anime #4324 you are the cancer killing /a/
It's Mobile Suit Ideon and Tengen Toppa Unit 01.
No need to thank me newfriends.
Nice try faggotbucket.
>implying ideon was better than nge
>Prove me wrong
Mazinger Z has received more animations, manga series, merchandise and international attention. It has also made more money. Mazinger Z at the peak of its popularity completely dwarfs Eva has its peak. It has statues in various parts of the world as a tribute to its greatness. It has been an enduring series since the 1970s. It revolutionized the mecha genre (Eva didn't despite what newfaggots try to assert) and Eva is directly inspired by Mazinger.
You have been proven wrong.
Mazinger > Evangelion
>implying the redditors that use /a/ now have even seen evangelion
>thinking Ideon is obscure
It's the classic hipster choice in "OH, YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN ROBOT ANIME?!"
Honestly considering how early in the 80's Ideon came out people can be forgiven for not knowing about it. Hell people outside of Japan and Southeast Asia barely know anything about most mecha anime these days that aren't Code Geass, Aldnoah/Zero and Evangelion and even then there claimed knowledge is spotty at best.
Hahaha this post is actually funny cause it's true. Well done for making an actually clever post on /a/, guess it's time to reset the timer and wait another few months to see another one.
Actually /a/ really needs a thread to make fun of generic shitposters once in a while. I remember one boiling over and hitting like a thousand posts a few months ago that was the best thread the board had in ages but there's really been nothing that good since.
I'd be ignorant to deny what Eva did to anime.
But it's also ignorant to think it's the only milestone in anime, let alone mecha.
Oh come on, anon, this is easy. The one on the left is Demonbane. As described in Kishin Hishou:
"There was a Demonbane wielding a planet-killing sword of light."
Dunno what the junk on the right is, though.
>Doesnt know that the Optimus design ripped off design cues straight from Ideon.
Is it that im too old, am I not with it anymore?
Ideon Be Invoked > EoE
Evangelion tv > Ideon tv
No just people are actually aware of it outside of Japan/SEA because it had tons of people that weaboo newfags and non-mecha fans love attached to it like Urobuchi, Sawano, Aoki, Kajiura etc. That's the main and pretty much only reason it's the most watched mecha series since like Gundam 00. In reality it's pretty much an also ran and most people seem to hate it now, IMO rightfully since it clearly just banked on staff hype power and did absolutely nothing with it's premise and world building.
>It makes Overman King Gainer, G-Reco and L-Gaim look well grounded
Fuck that sounds like an experience.
>Ideon Be Invoked > EoE
You absolute mad man.
Everyone knows about Ideon, even if all they know about it is "average anime with a great movie where everyone dies made by the guy who made Gundam". Even the average Eva fan has probably heard about it.
I don't know who either of these are. Suck it /m/ aka /v/.
Ideon is OK, but its writing is so weird.
>What is this strange out of place machine strapped to our ship?
>Put it back, it must be a 6th civilization artifact and totally not a Buff Clan tracking device
>Geez. Why do we get attacked at ever single turn? Its like they always know where we are at all times!
>Hey, peaceful planet guys, can you let us gonna park our Universe's most durable spaceship that is carrying a doomsday machine
so our baby can get a fever medicine and we may use your internet? (lets not mention the fact that we are being chased by bloodthirsty aliens which tech so advanced that only we can fight them)
>Oh shit, their planet is being destroyed, lets bail. By the way its their own fault that it happened.
We are led to believe that the main cast is both highly incompetent and selfish, and even the interactions between themselves are often irrational and inconsistent, their development are always all over the place. I think Tomino wanted them to act like real human beings, but it didn't really work.
It's a Tomino anime. You can't expect characters in a Tomino anime to act like sane human beings.
Remember that whole bullshit samurai honor duel?
Why is Karen so shit? She ruined the whole /a/.
>What you are replying to right now is the joke.
Great joke kohai, but around /a/ ironic shitposting is still shitposting. Just lurk more and see how your senpais do it.
I hope you remember you said this when you eventually find out how silly you sound.
But what if I don't like Gundam? What if I like other things
Since we're posting /tv/ stuff.
>I have no idea what that fucking tin can is
>I really like eva, not into the whole waifu fad tho
>I only watched very few other anime beside eva
>To a certain degree I even like rebuilds I enjoy them as giant robot action flicks, nothing more
>I even have a couple of revoltechs of rebuilds evas, in fact my favourite one is unit 08
>I only come on this board every now and then
>I have no idea what I'm doing and I may actually be the cancer that's killing this board
dude, i'm an oldfag and even i think believing that is bullshit
just because something is old and not mainstream doesn't mean it holds a special place "for true anime fans" whatever that is
Ideon had a worse series than Eva but a much better film. I don't even like Eva, but Ideon's episodes felt repetitive as hell and dragged on way too long. Be Invoked actually took the series' potential and did something with it, and it had some god-tier character deaths and a more successful atmosphere of dread, but I can't say it was worth sitting through 40 episodes of boring mecha fight after boring mecha fight.
Yes, in that context. But as this thread is meant to portray, Ideon was a new redefining of the genre and basically did what people credit to Eva years beforehand, without the cheap Christian symbolism.
>cheap Christian symbolism
It wasn't cheap Christian symbolism, it was expensive Christian imagery. It's not their fault people thought the decorations were something besides decoration.
This is applicable on /m/ but how does it apply to /a/? This place has always been about discussing cancerous and/or modern anime. Go to /m/ for retro anime discussion no one here gives a shit, they want to circle jerk about "best girl" and whatever moe show of the season.
Actually you are retarded for not being able to comprehend my post, because this is not what I was saying at all. I'm saying it makes no sense to say people on /a/ that don't know about Ideon are cancer because /a/ was never something known for discussion of retro anime, let alone retro mecha anime, so how could such a person be cancer when that's just the norm for this board.
Wow that was such a great comeback, totally rekt me.
If you don't want to get embarrassed next time then make sure your little head has actually wrapped its way around the point of the post you're responding to. Maybe next time you won't make yourself look like a complete jackass.
>thinks that quoting his own posts is a comeback
>replies with meaningless ad hominem
God you really are an embarrassment. Get some reading comprehension and don't reply to this post imbecile, it's pathetic at this point.
Hiro should do the right thing by merging /trash/ and /m/.
I didn't say retro anime strictly belongs on /m/, I said if you want to have discussion about it then you are better off on /m/ because unless it's Dragon Ball the thread will get 20 replies max because /a/ doesn't care about it.
And how is "retro" a buzzword, years are actual things that exist you know.
>thinking Depp is obscure
It's the lassic hipster choice in "OH, YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN HIGHSCHOOL ANIME?!"
