What matters most to me is that the manga's ending makes almost all of the story development throughout the series pointless. It answers no questions and resolves barely anything. And then it just throws a few pointless curve-balls in there for good measure.

And what about the interior of the ship Shou's Gauna clone as born in? Unless it was all a visual delusion of hers, it seemed as though the Gauna were trying to copy and read the minds of the pilots they capture, then physically interpret those memories.

I think that's really cool because it reminds me of Stannisslaw Lem's Solaris but I'm probably reaching pretty hard.

The problem with Sidonia was there is no way we can find answers to all Gauna related questions because they can't speak.

Any attempt to change it would destroy the entire world building, so I prefer to have several implications and interpretations.

I really wanted all of Sidonia to be converted to placenta, and have Nagate return home, not being able to tell the difference.

But I guess "haha the cluster ship accidentally terraformed the planet" and "let's all have babies" were good endings too

Yes, it is. The main reason is how detailed you want your animation to be. When animating in 3D you basically just specify a bunch of key poses of your model and your 3D package will take care of creating the in-betweens. Now the problem is that you can't really directly control what your in-between model's pose will look like, so you have to create more keyframes manually between the ones you made before to correct it. You then repeat this iterative process over and over until you're satisfied with the result. Since there's more frames in one second at 60 fps you'll end up having to create more keyframes by hand. Of course, this won't make a huge difference if you stopped at the level of details you'd expect at 24 or 30 fps but from what I know that is how great studios are doing it.

- Gauna gradually stop being interesting enemies and the powercreep makes them less and less threatening
- the action becomes more and more spread out, both in terms of location and time
- gradual decline in lineart and inking quality
- boring new mechanical designs
- Tanikaze, Izana, Tsumugi, and Yuhata are almost completely written out of their own final battle scene
- several plot threads are completely dropped in favor of making Ochiai the one true villain
- Ochiai's motivations are never properly explained
- Kunato comes back from the dead and turns into a good guy for no reason
- rushed "shipping" of all the main characters in order to please the romcomfags
- nobody dies
- we only got 61 sights of Sidonia

Nihei has never been good at endings, but Sidonia's was his worst one yet; mostly because of how long and drawn-out it was.

Some mod has good taste imo. I fucking loved Blame and Biomega; they really helped pull me into manga as a whole because I wasn't interested in the typical popular shit like FMA or whatever.

Nihei's works should all be adapted imo; they would be incredibly different from most everything else we know if done justice. Blame, especially with a right soundtrack and directing would be fucking orgasmically atmospheric, dripping with emotion without saying a single word.

I'm actually sort of pissed it's a movie and not an adaptation. At least a good budget should do justice to the amazing architecture/design porn in the series, and maybe it spurs a later full adaptation or movie series.
