So what makes a true king?

>Saber: "For the country's prosperity, a true king should be willing to make any sacrifice."

>Rider: "You abandoned your men when they lost their way, then alone and untroubled by that fact, you went on to follow your pretty little ideals to the end. Thus, you are no true king."

>Archer: "It is the law. My law, which I set down as the rightful king / Right or wrong are irrelevant. If you break the law, I will punish you. There is no room for discussion."
>>
>>133559120
That is not Rider's argument in the slightest.

In the end, he supported Saber by telling her she was right to stand up for what she believed in. That surprised me.
>>
Rider had it right. Kingdoms exist so that kings can make history.

Why?Saber was only wrong in regretting it.
The king Artur was utterly perfect.

I loved the Melty and Tsukihime references in Apocrypha. They were great. Vampires are hardly acknowledged in TM works besides those.
>>
>>133562355
Well Dead Apostles are pretty shitty compared to Dracula or Heroic Spirits.
DAA are a different league though.
Tsukihime remake better have a larger role for Nero
>>
>>133562407
It would have a cooler fight at least. Nasu said he had to one up the Tsukihime manga. I predict it will go like this

-Arc performs moon drop on Nrvnqsr
-Nrvnqsr actually survives it
-Then Shiki fights Nrvnqsr

Part of me doesn't want to see it since it would make Arc a worst jobber than Ciel. But I fear this is how it would go.

A true king actually knows what the heck they're doing. The King of Heroes & King of Conquerors (still inferior to Genghis Khan) need to learn from best king.

Rider is the one who would have the most people following him
Gil is the most successful king
Saber is the naive one who let her kingdom fall into ruin because of her ideals

>>133562805
>who let her kingdom fall into ruin because of her ideals
That´s al three of them.
>>
>>133563101
Rider was just being an idiot and just wanted to conquer everything instead of ruling.
Saber was obsessed with making the perfect kingdom and being the perfect king that it was doomed to fail.
I honestly have no idea what happened with Gil's kingdom aside from being the most successful, monetary wise.
>>
>>133559120
I would only follow someone like Saber, who fully realizes what it takes to be a king. The other two are just conceited morons who didn't deserve anyone's loyalty.
>>
>>133563165
His kingdom was just a pretty shit place to live in, even before problems with the gods.
>>
A true king is someone who if stripped of his rank would still hold the same power.
>>
Rider. He's the more charismatic of the three and a leader's job isn't to make the world better, just to make his people happy.

Archer lacks ambition, and Saber's dream is impossible to achieve.

Because he treated her like a unfortunately little girl who doesn´t know it better.

>>
>>133559809
Well, Saber's statement wasn't wrong. Rider only criticized the dehumanizing way she describes being a King as he believes a King must be close to its people and be an inspiration for them which is also right as also feels bad for a girl like Arturia to put such beliefs on her shoulders. Sacrificing for your ideals is admirable but making the position of King look like a life long sacrifice is unnecessary and pointless.

Saber make it look like she's forced into it while Rider pursues the privilege and portrays it with joy and pride.

They're both pretty idealistic, though. What Gil described is much closer to what an actual King was.

>>
>>133564737
>>133564639
The problem is she wasn´t wrong.
What was wrong was her regreeting.
Rider would have no problem with King Artur but had a problem with saber who was what remained when the king died.
>>
>>133564441
>oh noes she doesn't pay attention to me

>>
>>133565632
"Sempai won't notice me" on a nation wide scale.
>>
>>133564798
I think it was a little vague, too, but in Lancelot's case it was shown as his being unable to handle his unworthiness of Arturia, in regards to a transgression he made against her as king, and so wanting to be punished by her for, but instead she forgave him, and he went nuts.

Something like that, I think. Fatefags please clarify.

>>
>>133565776
Rather than gentle, she was neglectful. She pursued perfection and in doing so dehumanized herself and ignored the feelings of those under her rule.
>>
>>133564798
When the person leading you is so perfectly good, you look at yourself and notice all your failures and shortcomings. Often people don't like looking at themselves in a negative light so they start trying to pain the perfect person in a negative light. A person who scores high marks on tests is a "no life." A person who is sociable and outgoing is called a "Chad." You resent them for no real reason other than they are better than you. Refusing to change your ways to match theirs, you try and rile them up and bring them down. Lancelot fucked Geinevire in the hopes of enraging Saber so that he could see her Anger. This failed, breeding even more resentment. In time this hatred grows and grows until the very model of everything who you would aspire to be becomes a reviled creature who you would kill.

Have you ever read a Bible? Like at all?

People that haven't read it tend to go "Dude's weak, he can only come back to life"

I f you read that shit at all though you'd understand, Jesus had all the powers even if he didn't fault them to his own benefit.

He commanded all of nature, all storms and spirits listed to him and were quiet with a single word from him, all demons could be destroyed or commanded by him with a word, Legion came begging to him not to be destroyed by him when it merely saw him, Jesus missed a boat once so he decided to walk across the lake to meet his men, he could bring people back repeatedly, destroy mountains with a word, give the touch of death to a fig tree as it dies instantly because it didn't give him fruit, he could command ten thousand angels with a word, you cannot read about him at all without him having some new power each few paragraphs that he just feels like using per situation. Mainly he just used his powers to heal people, because he wasn't down here to judge anyone to begin with, but rather he was just here to prove how a mortal should live.

If you're not going to read a Bible then at least read Saint Young Men so you can at least have passing knowledge rather than going "Beeh, he can only water into wine".

His power in Nasuverse terms is "authority", the power to control the world.'

Its a power that all divine spirits have to some degree.

The fact that the entire fate franchise is based on Jesus and a cup he drank out of once should really tell you something.

Yes, but he had a lot of powers, and this was just one of them.

The general idea is that there's basically no range limit or mechanic limit, since his power is essentially to overwrite the world, except not in as small of a way as a reality marble. Rather you are telling the world "This is how this works now, I'm saying this is wine now" and the world has to obey.

Authority is pretty hard to use in the current age though.

He does have other general powers to fall back upon at least.

I think Gilgamesh was right, given the context of the time he lived in.

Think about it. Heroes, Gods and magic exist in the Fate universe, in the olden days the laws came from the Gods and Gilgamesh is a Demigod. His word was literally the law, he also doesn't come from a duality religion so the concept of good and evil are somewhat new to him.

Furthermore, during his time everything belong to the King, heck, it wasn't until the Industrial Revolution that things tended to work like that. So again, it's normal. Not to mention that his Noble Phantasm is that he OWNS everything.

He's a selfish egotistical bastard, coming from a time that justified every single one of his quirks. He's not evil, just out of his era.

Yes. As stated in both FSN and F/Z, Saber was the perfect king who lead her kingdom to a time of prosperity when it should have been impossible to do, and had her downfall caused by the fact that her people were unable to keep up with her brilliance just like in the legend. The details from Gawain and Lancelot's stories of their myth in the TM world both further add on to this by explaining their own flaws that contributed to Arthur's downfall ie Gawain being too much of a blind lapdog and Lancelot not being able to fulfill his role as the perfect knight.

You'd only understand his ideals of kingship if you read his route in CCC honestly. He didn't actually talk about his ideals in F/SN or Zero so much.

However, CCC does a job of showing how he has some good ideals underneath it, even if he's too embarrassed to ever say them.

Even with Enkidu he didn't want to speak too openly about it.

>Years passed, and that boy grew into a young man. I acknowledged that the gods’ fears had been correct. In only a few years he had become a different person. Despotism. Tyranny. Coercion. Levies. As much luxury as possible, to satisfy his own selfish desires. Why did it come to this, the people of Uruk lamented. We never thought it would go this far, the gods fretted.

>…But. I knew the reason for his transformation, I knew so well it hurt. When he was born, this conclusion was already made. He was alone, a creature neither god nor human. With the characteristics of both sides, his viewpoint ranged so wide and so far not even the gods could understand the things he saw. An excess of power lead to an excess of loneliness. Even so, he did not give up his place as king. He did not flee the purpose he had given himself. …what a powerful ego, I thought. He earnestly respected the gods, and loved humans. It was just that, in conclusion, he had chosen the path of abandoning the gods and hating humans.

>“You intend to punish me?”

>We met in front of the building where the ceremony of divine marriage was held.

>“That’s right. I’m going to set your arrogance aright with my own hands.”

>What I should have said was loneliness, not arrogance, but I couldn’t do that. I didn’t want to wound his pride. Our battle lasted days. I was a spear, an axe, a shield, a beast. With me, who can freely transform into all of creation, as his opponent, he mustered all of the power he could handle.

>“You — how can a mere lump of earth rival me!”

>Was it surprise or anger he felt, encountering his equal for the first time. In the midst of battle, he took his prized treasures in hand. I don’t think there was anything more disgrace for him than having to draw out the treasure he held so dear. At first he did it out of necessity, because he was cornered. But by the end he was throwing all the treasure he possessed into the fray, joyfully, holding nothing back.

>The battle — in whose victory did it end? He had emptied his whole treasury, and I had lost ninety percent of my clay. I must have looked thin and ragged, my shape held together only by my clothes. He opened his eyes and burst into laughter, then collapsed to the ground face-up. I fell to the earth to, and breathed deeply. Honestly, I couldn’t have moved more than once.

>“Both of us have only one move left. If we don’t defend as well, then I suppose we’ll be two foolish corpses lying here in the end.”

>I still don’t know the true meaning of those words. Did he want to say “so let’s end this in a draw”? Did he mean that would be foolish, there should only be one corpse? Whatever they meant, hearing those words, I collapsed to the ground as well, as if in imitation of him. Like a mirror, I thought.

>“Don’t you regret using up all that treasure?” I said for some reason.

>“What. Why shouldn’t I use them for an opponent who requires it,” Gilgamesh said in a cheerful tone.

>After that, I was always with him. The days seemed to run by.

>“There has been no stability in my treasury ever since you came here. I must have caught your stupidity to fight by throwing treasures.”

>He never would stop collecting things, but he did sometimes remember to use them. One of my few achievements.

>There was a monster called Humbaba. We combined our powers to defeat it. I asked him, why did you decide to defeat Humbaba? It wasn’t an order from the gods. And I don’t think it was for the sake of the people of Uruk either.

>“It was to protect Uruk though? If we don’t defeat all evil on the Earth, our people will starve to death.”

>So why, I asked again. He made the people of Uruk suffer by his tyranny, so why was he worried for them now?

>“It’s not so strange. I was born to be a protector of humanity, after all. Building the future of this planet is the king’s duty.” As he said that, his gaze was so far away. So far not even I, who was made in the same way, could see what he was seeing. “There are different kinds of protection. Just guarding things from danger is not protection. There are times when even the north wind is necessary.”

>This time, I understood him perfectly. “I see. So you preferred the path you saw here.”

>He laughed as if embarrassed. It was a laugh like a cool breeze, one he sometimes laughed as a child.

>…I understood why he preferred isolation. It was because the path he had chosen was one he had to walk alone. He said he was protecting a distant future he could see. That was why he had to be alone, hating gods and men. The more he loved the future of humanity, the less he could be involved with anyone. Arbitrator and reaper. The king obtains only the results. There was no way he, who was more than human, could intervene in the glorious process from which such results are born.

>“Well, results may be an uninteresting fabric, but I’ve decided to look after them until it’s finished, so I will.”

>His exaggeration was too much for me to bear, so I spoke. “I’m a tool. Something you don’t need pass judgment for. I can stay at your side until the end of the world.”

>“Ridiculous.” I think that was the first and only time he ever felt relieved. “Very well then — That is, — I mean.” So he continued.

>…it was then I was granted those precious words, like a shining star. That was when I truly gained a self.

>I’m reaching the end of my story. There was the rift between Gilgamesh and the goddess Ishtar, and the battle with the Bull of Heaven sent by Ishtar, and then the story of my death.

>The Bull of Heaven was driven off by Gilgamesh and his weapons, the dark clouds that had covered the world cleared, and the Earth was saved from flood. As punishment for defying the gods, I was made back into earth once more. He held me, that crumbling lump of earth, with all his might.

>“I won’t allow this. Why do you have to die? If someone must be punished, it should be me! All of this was my own selfishness!”

>The sky was still weeping. Unable to see, I offered him counsel. “You don’t need to be sad. I’m a weapon. Just one of all those treasures you have. You’ll find countless treasures after this, much better than I am. You see, there’s nothing so valuable about me that gives you reason to drench your cheeks like this.”

>That’s right. I was a weapon. A tool. Not like him. Though Gilgamesh was made as a child of the gods, he was a hero who defied them. He had a soul from the beginning. He had free will ever since he was born. A true life, unlike mine. A star, with real value, not a consumable like me. …I had always yearned for that. I hated it. Why, when we were made by the same gods, were we such different beings.

>“You have value! Value no one else has! I declare it here and now. In all the world, I have only one friend. So — that value will never change, for all eternity!”
>>
>>133573377
>I was a weapon. As a weapon, I would be changed depending on the weapons of the next era. My value, my mystique, belonged only to my own era. He made that into something else. With the price that forever after he would always be lonely.

>…I remember those words. I remember him in that moment when I said I was a tool.

>“Ridiculous. You lived with me, spoke with me, fought with me. That’s not a person, nor a tool. That’s called a friend, Enkidu.”

>— Ah. How sinful.

>I knew he was weak but I never considered his weakness. I knew he was strong but I never recognized his strength. You can’t say I understood him. But he was completely sincere in keeping himself isolated. I left an eternal wound upon his dignity.

>The rain gradually lessened. I returned to my original form, the earth of the wasteland. All that remained afterward was the cry of the king, like roaring thunder. My story pauses here. I am a regret that has already vanished. What happens after this is your future. You, who are human unlike me, this is your story. …that’s why there are some things I want you to ask.

>Does he still love humans? Does he still remember the name of his friend? Has he stopped worrying about the faults of some far-off era yet, please —

CCC has some nice moments anyway

and we say again if she had just thought about happens after her death there would have been no downfall. fucking hell Mordred was the perfect knight you think Lancelot was suppose to be. everyone liked him he was top 5 in every combat skill on the round table and he was bloodline related. had she just put him in line for the throne she would have not lost half the country to him in the civil war. all because she didn't understand the people closest to her
>>
>>133573627
Mordred is a girl, and in Apocrypha we explore her character entirely.

What she really wanted rather than to be king, was to be acknolwedged or loved by her father who was cold and distant. If she couldn't be loved by Arthur, then being hated was the next best thing, because Arthur would still have to accept her if she turned against him.

Arthur until the end chose to feel nothing about Mordred, not an ounce of love, hatred, blame, or recognition.

Mordred fought her way to being one of the top knights without using her name as a crutch because she thought father would be proud of her, she would see her talent, but in the end Arthur gave her the final curse by not giving her a single feeling unto the end.

Even Mordred couldn't help realize how cold and robotic the king really was as she was dying. How the King could not understand anyone.

Mordred's real wish was to ease her father's loneliness in a sense, but even Mordred wasn't aware of this wish she held at first.

Sometimes you have a kid with someone and you don't want to acknowledge it, Superman went through the same thing as well, but it really does help to take responsibility and deal with what is.

Arc with Ultimate One is the only character in CCC that has a chance to defeat Moon Cell boosted Amaterasu is in turn on par with King Protea who is a threat to the entire universe. Ultimate One is bullshit like that.

Bear in mind that even Buddah is among the characters who can't defeat Amaterasu.

But Jesus' existance proves the existance of the abrahamic god. You know, YHWH? The absolutely almighty god, who Jesus by all definition is directly part of? The guy that made the universe(s)?
>>
>>133575239
There are many gods that either exist or have existed in the nasuverse.

If all of them are just high tier nature spirits that are just a part of just the earth rather than the creator of it, then why would you assume that any version of the abrahamic god be any different?
>>
>>133575239
It depends on if Jesus is related to a literal omnipotent God rather than a God made by people's faith that exists in the Throne of Gods like all other gods.

The Jesus of the Bible is a much different person than the one of Hollywood/Mass Media. Dude was willing to left sinners rot in sin if they chose to, fucked shit up when he had to and was a dick at times.

Honestly, Bible Jesus is actually a good complement to the Old Testament God, the people harping on how they contradict each other don't know much about the Bible.

I'd like to know which Arthurian myths Nasu looked at for his history of Saber. Did he watch, like, Excalibur from 1981, or Sword in the Stone, did he read Le Morte d'Arthur, what? The stories vary a lot, so what ones did he use as his basis?

>Mordred was the perfect knight

Mordred did not have a fucking inkling of the character needed to either be a proper knight or a proper king. Even her own remembrance of the revolt acknowledges that everyone who followed her was a fucking easily-swayed idiot for doing so.

Yes, everyone liked her. Also, she flat out says that she wouldn't give a shit of they all burned. She was simply a vehicle for everyone's pent-up jealousy and selfish petty dissatisfactions, someone who rolled about and told them exactly what they wanted to hear to start a revolt against someone they resented from Day 1. The knights didn't hate Arturia because of something she did during their rule, they hated her from the start out of jealousy, and were forced to keep their mouths shut during her reign because there was nothing they could find fault on. All Mordred did was enable their petty bullshit. That's what her "charisma" amounted to for them.
>>
>>133565632
Broadly speaking, yes. Lancelot's bit in Garden of Avalon is just the cherry on top of what a colossal band of fucking selfish crybabies she had to deal with.

There's a very distinct line between the attention whores like Lancelot and Mordred that push their own insecurities on her, and the sane ones that realize she works her fucking ass off, and as much as it might pain them to see her struggle, they shouldn't fucking pile on it (Kay and Bediviere). Gawain existed in a sort of middle ground where he was just so fucking starstruck that he convinced himself she was perfect and flawless and didn't quite see her properly as a person.

A fun bit is that Agravain, who was Morgan's spy, actually appear genuinely disgusted with Guinevere and Lancelot, as if going "Look, I'm actively plotting her demise and even I think you're a pair of dicks."

Those aren't their parallel arguments; You've got Saber's and Archers, but Rider's argument was about being a paragon of humanity.

They're all correct, because they're different kinds of kings.

Saber is the king of heaven,
Archer is the king of earth,
and Rider is the king of men.
