It takes some liberties with the plot, Nero's fight is subpar and the animation itself is decent at best.

It's still an ok show. Nothing too bad.

I watched the anime before I knew anything about Tsukihime. I enjoyed it, thought the OP was actually pretty cool.

Read the Manga adaptation of the VN and found it really good. I think the manga was a lot better but the anime really wasn't that bad. Never read the VN though I did read Melty Blood.

As a stand-alone, most people enjoy the anime.

Most who read the novel first set a high bar, which the adaptation didn't reach. Doesn't mean it's objectively bad in every regard.
