Was it fair for Red to use 6 pokemon when gym leaders only used 2-4?
One of the two scenarios is true:
>OP knows full well that the anime stated that trainers battling gym leaders would use the same amount of pokemon, ex: 2v2
>OP hasn't seen the anime is posting out of ignorance
Pokemon Origins is more accurate to the games and gym battles work the same as in the games. The challenger is allowed to use his full party while the gym leader uses only 2-4
>take down vs rock type pokemon
>ryhorn using special moves
I thought this was supposed to be like the games
It's probably more unfair that the gym leaders are restricted to one or two type themes so that any preschooler who knows how to play rock paper scissors can just whoop their ass in one shot
only 1, and that's another problem
>ash is a great trainer though the entire series but always ends up losing in the league
>red was an awful trainer though his entire series and somehow managed to win the league
>Needing more than ONE pokemon to defeat a gym leader.
Just get proper type advantage you can fuck them easy. With proper planning, you can have a three Pokemon team that can handle nearly every situation.
Gym leader sets the rules you play by, if they want to limit themselves then so be it. Besides gym leaders always have unlimited healing and items and generally there monsters are a few levels higher than any on your team.
Not really, their gyms are based off of whatever types there are. All the battles would be the same if they had different types.
In the games:
Gym leaders are there to teach you about types
E4 is there to teach you dual types
Your rival is there to go all out
In the anime:
Gym leaders are there to teach you about types
Tournament is there to go all out
there was literally nothing violent in that webm
Gym leaders are supposed to test challengers. That's the point of the badges, only those good enough to be deemed worthy by 8 gym leaders get to participate in the league.
Both the games AND the anime had to start mentioning that Gym leaders use different Pokemon depending on how many badges the challenger has because retards would constantly bitch about the scaling difficulty being unrealistic.
I liked how the gym leaders chose their Mons based on how experienced the trainer they're fighting is. Put a whole new perspective on how that shit works in that world.
They should have axed Ash and rebooted the whole franchise with something exactly like Origins.
>They should have axed Ash and rebooted the whole franchise with something exactly like Origins.
That was two arcs ago. Took out "only" two legendaries, so who knows what else Tobias had.
Last time around he lost to a retard, or so I've heard. Wasn't paying much attention to the anime at the time.
We have been asking for that for along time
I don't think they could get rid of him if they wanted to
He loses when he shouldn't and wins when it doesn't matter
BW was literal cancer and I'm glad the writers are ignoring it completely now
>more childish artstyle. Everything is rounder and less detailed
>bad animation even by pokemon's standards
>ash went from being a great trainer in sinnoh to being a complete retard in unova and then back to being great in kalos. Unova felt out of place
>tried to mimic the gen 1 anime but failed miserably
>ash's rival is cocky for no reason even though he gets his ass kicked in almost every tournament. He loses in the first round of the pokemon league
>ash doesn't win a single competition before the league, by the end of the series he had more loses than wins
>ash lost to someone even dumber than him. I mean someone who thought the unova league would take place in johto
Red had a pikachu and besides there are the three starters that are way better
Meanwhile Ash's catch rate is still single digits in all regions
>replace beloved main character of highly popular show because some murricans that don't actually watch it decided it's a meme to not like the fact that he's still the protag
This is a retarded suggestion and you know it.
although it's not seen too often in the anime, it's heavily implied that he spends most of the time between episodes training hard
he also has the strongest bonds with his pokemon
Pretty much this
The series is great for a while when you start watching it then as time goes on you move on with something else.
And those people wouldn't suddenly start watching again and double the viewership if ash got replaced by Ash-with-a-different-voice-and-a-different-hat.
It's like if people that don't like Garfield would whine about how Garfield needs to be written out and replaced by a hamster. It would just hurts your fanbase by "pandering" to the comments from some random autists outside it.
How the fuck is the first battle unfair?
You can face him with 6 metapods using harden, or 6 weedles using string shot, or 6 ratatas using leer. All of these are winning strategies.
I always thought people where joking when they said May was stacked...
Boy was I wrong
Too young at the time, I began watching subs right around the 8th movie. Better late than never, I re-watched everything that I saw as dubbed and made up for it.
You will never be embraced in her bosom
They had two girls from BW to choose from and picked neither. I feel they may not have liked BW that much
they made serena younger in the anime, they could've done the same thing with hilda
though honestly Iris could've been better than hilda if they made her act like the wild girl she's supposed to be
She is genuine boner material
XY good points:
>Satoshi is the coolest he has ever been
>animation, the key battles are fucking top tier
>Serena started weak but has grown into her own; she likes Satoshi but she isn't fully defined by that any more
>all the game characters have better writing and personality than the game counterpart (see: Olympia, Diantha, Team Flare)
Give or take
>Typical Pokemon structure with character of the week format and slow progression between towns
>No overarching plot... UNTIL NOW (at least it's being fixed with the current arc)
>Weak rivals unless Alain also joins the fray
Pretty much, and the fact that there is more eye candy to boot.
Is Serena more fashionable than the other girls?
Gym leaders are only good if you can milk them
The gym leader isn't supposed to be an equal fight you absolute retard. They are there to judge if you've met a certain level of skill and if you're qualified to have that badge. Nothing more.
They will throw us a bone eventually
Both are in the top three for me
But Valerie tops them
She is such a cutie
I agree. But it's probably because I only played until Platinum. Electra looks hot.
I would keep battling them just to be in their presence
As a long-time Pokemon player, I actually wished more trainers used 6 Pokemon.
It's always just
>some Cooltrainers/Ace Trainers
And that's it. Nowadays even rival characters don't have six.
>starts off with six Magikarp
>KO them in seconds
>six Intimidates stacked on top of the same Pokemon = lowest the Attack stat can possibly go
>still BTFO all six of them because I'm overleveled by then
God bless Unova
I want to kiss her
Erika: I won't let you escape
Erika: Natsume~ please tell me the secret to have a good figure.
Natsume: I told you, there is no secret
Natsume: W-What's your problem?
A race is cool but I would imagine it being a destruction derby style battle.
Natsume: Why has it become like this?
Touya: You are slow.
Natsume: This is humiliating.
Touya: Your butt is up.
HIT HER AGAIN!
The only ones in these pictures to actually fulfill their pokemon champion dreams were Gold and Red and they did it in the short length of 8 months.
Green did too but only for a short time.
If the audience get's replaced anyway then why bother have the same character for almost 20 years?
Nobody cares about Ash/Satoshi to be honest. He is as generic as they come and they could have easily replaced him ages ago just like in the games and Special manga. Hell IMO is far more easier to just do that. Yu-Gi-Oh does it, Digimon does it, hell Vanguard even this that recently. The point is that having Satoshi being the MC is not needed at all and seems like some odd artistic choice by the staff.
I don't know, I think there is another problem as to why they will not replace him even though competing anime do it and even the pokemon games do it. I wonder who is making the call behind the scenes and sticking the anime with this one and only MC
Reminder that once upon a time, there was good pokemon manga. Then the artist has to quit due to a disease that makes her hand weak.
It has to be the director of the seires or something. Cause the games change for each gen and those still sell like hot cakes and in fact are the most popular part of the franchise.
Or they can just use the starters they have.
Best non main girl
I wonder if he was shamed.
I dont see how >>133068749
makes him an idiot.
These are "natural" fights unless he showed up with a bunch of lvl 20s and one lvl 100.
>using a grass type on a rock type
loses to one headbutt
>using a rock water on a rock type
loses to a thunderbolt
>using a normal on a rock type
gets a single giga impact
>uses electric as 2nd last resort
zapcannon'd one shot
I do agree he won with plot armor though.
you don't get a one shot like that unless you are hella strong, the fact he sent a glass cannon in the end and won bothers me.
Best banned episode
I think you guys have good intentions when giving Ash the boot. I would also like something in the lines of male or female MC leave the town (even both could work) and add the rival, same catching and gym antics, reveal the bad guys earlier in the plot and keep it up for most of the run. Keep the league and add a Elite 4 and champion run for the winner (one of the three retards I mentioned in at the start).
Would be cool if you actually didn't know which one would actually win the league or if they could clear the Elite 4 and even beat the champion in each gen.
But I see why they keep Ash
>keep Team Rocket to follow the formula that's been running since the beginning
>you can bring out the old friends easily and the relationship is more than "yo I'm Dawn and I'm relevant so I'll tag along for some chapters" if we used new protags
Tho they already do that with random people as it is. But I think they just have no need and don't want to change things up.
>withholds secret vital information, then chides people for not knowing it
>willing to let an extinction-level event happen on mere speculation
>doesn't understand how wormholes work
>literally acts like a monkey
>uses a shit pokemon
I wouldn't mind keeping him if he would win a damn tournament once in a while
>Hey kids, here's the new protagonist for XY. He's another generic shonen newbie trainer who starts with a Pikachu, just like the previous 5 protags. Follo this new and exciting adventure of him challenging 8 gyms and then beating the Elite Four and Champion, fulfilling his dream of becoming master, just like the 5 other protags! Are you excited yet?
But why even do that if you aren't changing things up?
I'm tired of Ash, Pikachu, Team Rocket and how every season is the same. If they are just going to kick Ash and keep everything else while replacing him with Brendan/Lucas/Hilbert then just keep Ash. Shit is the same.
Are you literally retarded? If a marketer seriously suggested writing Pikachu out of the anime and banking on its replacement becoming just as or more popular in an instant, he'd be fired on the spot. When you have a machine printing money you don't fucking unplug it.
Why do Pokemon threads always attract idiots that don't even follow the anime who make financially braindead suggestions to radically change shit that works fine or write out popular characters that push merchandise?
It's like watching a fucking kindergarten class.
We are all tired of them, they got to go. We need new blood in the system
What the ass are you even talking about? Are you mixing characters from the games, characters from the anime and characters from one of multiple manga series together in some personal, retarded headcanon?
Not like anything I said isn't true though. The games canon > the animes, it's always been that way and it always will. As for the other thing people haven't wanted Special as an anime for years and years now and nobody has ever liked Ash, which is exactly as I said.
Too bad for your autistic ass the "everyone" that wants that are heavily outnumbered by the actual majority that don't, which is why the anime is one of the most popular cartoons on Japanese TV and a heavy part of the franchise's marketing strategy, while Special is a minor footnote that can mostly do whatever the hell it wants because it tanking and burning isn't really something Gamefreak would care all that much about.
Because I already accept the fact that they're going to use the same formula every season, but I don't want to see the same MC going through same shit every time.
You're right though, should've replace Team Rocket with anything else.
>games are the real canon
No shit, why would anime and game have the same canon?
The anime is popular because it's been on for ages and was the breakthrough for Pokemon in terms of Anime. It'd be completely different had Origin, Special, or anything else come before it. That'd be popular and the current anime would be regarded as a joke.
Good thing I've been over 18 for ages now.
What does Mei's bosom feel like?
>no pokemon series EVER will have a brutally efficient mc that steamrolls all the retards that specialize in a type
>he and his rival will never have multilayered psychological battles contemplating if a pokemon has a move or item to cover its weakness
>games canon > the animes
Each are canon to their own medium
>Special as an anime for years and years now
Only a handful of vocal minority actually want them.
>nobody has ever liked Ash
Only the genwunners that only watched the OS season hate him for no reason. Like you.
We'd rather have kids hopes and dreams destroyed because they realize they will always come up short so we can keep selling the anime, instead of striving for kids to reach the stars and conquer the world.
>Each are canon to their own medium
Games still matter more and always will.
>Only a handful of vocal minority actually want them.
Except for all the people that do.
>Only the genwunners that only watched the OS season hate him for no reason. Like you.
Been watching since the 90s, seen all the new shit. Only time Ash has been good was during his little bout with Paul and was the best time he had to win the League, and they blew it just to keep it running for the same time old schtick that's been going on for 2 decades.
I liked XY's rival because they actually got depressed over how shit they were in comparison to you.
Like this is essentially another version of you, and yet you get curbstomped over and over again by your friend. You shouldn't be happy about this.
We don't need to go full DICKS OAK but still.
How about this...
We make our good old boy here into a perma trap (I like the blonde version most) and is beta to the main female, will that make the anime more interesting?
He should also have some plotting scheming antihero traits too.
>nobody has ever liked Ash
I'm happy when someone says this.
Its depressing seeing him lose time after time, season after season then just re-rolling with a new group and forgetting the old until they just magically become relevant again.
Even shipping has become empty and meaningless waste of energy; because you already know how it will end because he's repeated the same action at least 3 times with at least 3 different girls now.
Pessimistic but still realistic. I like it.
I don't know if that kickstarted my crossdressing fetish but it surely didn't hurt it.
Maybe Ash leaves but then later on "she" shows up and pals around with everyone for a while.
I liked Barry. And his team wasn't complete trash too.
Loved Platinum, my first game. Watched the anime since the begininng but had to wait until I discovered emulation to play one.
He makes a good trap
>some kid figures out Mewtwo is the strongest Pokemon in G1
>next week everyone is rolling level 100 Mewtwos
>start rolling Snorlax with Self-Destruct as my starter
>nuke their Mewtwo
>steamroll the rest of their team with my Mewtwo
>somehow nobody ever wised up to this
>I liked Barry
Ugh, Rivals have been awful for a long time now and it all started with Barry. Hell you could even say Brendan/May is where it started. Rivals are supposed to be dick assholes you need to overcome, not your friends. Blu/Green/Gary/Whatever and Silver were glorious.
You're SUPPOSED to win against the Gym Leader in-universe, it's not a championship match between two powerhouses going full out, it's a powerful trainer gimping themselves hard to test the skills of newbies.
There's a reason Brock asks how many badges Red has before choosing his team; if Red had more badges, Brock would have used more pokemon, all of higher level than what he used instead.
In-universe the gyms can be done in any order.
>Games still matter more and always will.
What the fuck are you on about. The games are canon to the games. The anime s canon to the anime.
>Except for all the people that do.
A few dozen people isn't a lot though.
>and they blew it just to keep it running for the same time old schtick that's been going on for 2 decades.
It would be the same shit even if they replaced Ash with some Gary Stu and people who think otherwise are deluded. At least with Ash it'll be iconic and instantly recognizable since he's been on for 20 years.
Wally is what started it
Gen 1 was Gary
MOTHERFUCKING[/spoiler Oak. Silver was a douche. Wally was a literal sickly child who just played with you. Barry wanted to suck you off more than fight you. iirc the gen 5 rival was ok, and gen 6 seems actually upset when they lose.
Maybe they're actually improving now.
He traps 3 times, 4 if you count his maid outfit
He isn't as good as the trap master
Why didn't E4 and/or Gym leaders have Mega Evolutions?
Step it up Gamefreak, I want them to actually be a challenge, rather than spamming one super effective attack the whole time.
Pokemon has never been truly challenging, but it was certainly a lot harder in previous entries.
You're right, I completely forget about Wally because he's terribly uninspired.
Gen 5 rival was alright, but he was still like "Hey lets battle friend, lets see who is better." Gen 6, you might as well have not had a rival, they're all your buttbuddy friends.
>Gen 6, you might as well have not had a rival, they're all your buttbuddy friends.
You had like three people who wanted to suck your dick, and then the "real" rival was the opposite gender PC. They actually were upset when they lost and couldn't understand why they couldn't beat you through their own training.
Every season. The numbers are a pun on his name
Still nothing compares to Silver/Blue. Silver was a complete asshole that had a mental breakdown every time he lost and Blue gave no fucks, still thought he was better than you and rubbed it in your face.
Those are rivals. I just personally can't stand these friend rivals or good characters that train hard they just aren't the MC rivals.
>I've got a new plane
>does it require you dress up as a girl again
>no... err yes.
>I vote for a new plan
>No seriously i already bought the shit, It'll work this time. lets just try it once.
You're right, but I still think XY is going in the right direction. They seemed about ready to have a mental breakdown near your last fight.
Satoshi? I only know a small handful of moon numbers.
Nah not really. First of all overcome what when they are all easy as fuck. Only time I had to go all out with potions was when Silver ambushed me when I was leveling at Mt Moon and I only had Suicune and Polywrath with more than 50% hp and moves.
Don't really care about some edgy retard that still acts cocky after he gets his ass whooped every time we meet. Barry was a great and funny retard and his team was full of my favorites so he's best rival for me.
Blue had a right to act cocky, he became the Champion before you did and was always one step ahead.
Barry as you said, was just a retard. I'm still amazed they gave him the highest level at the time party for Platinum. Glad HG/SS fixed that shit.
>gets badges before you
>becomes champion before you
>is almost always coming back from the town you're heading to
>always had more Pokemon than you
Yes, Blue was always one step ahead of you. You may beat him in the game, which is required, but he was always still a step ahead of you. Even then he has a very well and balanced team and is one of the better Champions in the entire series.
Besides saying Blue is a pushover is silly, since Barry was also an extreme pushover, as is Red, and everybody else barring Cynthia.
Gen 2 is pretty clear as well. What with Kanto's Gym Leaders having high level and more pokemon since you already beat Johto's leaders and the league.
Then you get rematches with people in games with their pokemon clearly being stronger and them having more.
It's also obviously something they added because they were tired of retards that don't understand what a video game is going "lel why is the gym leader in the first town weaker than some random Youngster outside the third town?"
Everybody wanted know why the town was so small but it turns out the town has a few giant buildings that are actually apartments. The town is actually much larger
Is not required. You can let him beat your ass to not break immersion if you want.
What I think is that "rivals" are meanigless when the game overall barely makes them worth being called that. So Blue and Silver are about as good as "rivals" as the retards that followed them.
When I played in gen 1 and 2 I realized they liked to appear at random surprising you with your pants down. They tonned it down in Gen 4 and I think they even heal you nowadays. Or maybe they did that in gen 4 too I don't remember.
He's back again now though.
Even wears this outfit in the new OP.
I've looked at /vp/'s anime thread on occasion, I might start watching it again. I don't think I've ever actually watched the anime since like early gen 3 and that was still the dub.
>tries to be like the game
>didn't make Red use only just his starter pokemon and use his other five pokemon as meat shields for when his starter pokemon faints and HM slaves for field use cause that's literally what 90% of every kid fucking does
A squid and a pumpkin.
14 black and 14 white are the dual movies
And XY also have best loli.
Wobba got written out for BW, but they brought it back for XY due to fan demand.
They even held a poll to decide who to bring back.
Kind of. Rehashiram and zekrom weren't given the highest praise when they were first announced.
Ass jet pokemon
I'm still not over the fact that one of the current legendaries is literally "evil tal"
What did you guys think of this guy?
Misty is fucking Tracy and May is fucking Drew.
Ash will fuck Serena.
Xerneas is pretty cool.
Actually all of the "blue" legendaries have been good.
>Any of the new movies worth watching?
Yeah, but they're part of the anime continuity just watch them as part of that
>And what is Origins everyone above was talking about?
2 hour TV special (split into 4 shorter episodes) made to advertise X/Y. It's essentially an adaptation of gen 1, though it incorporates some new XY elements as well. Its main purpose was to catch the attention of adults who had lost interest in the franchise long ago with an adaptation of a game they remembered, then show off some new cool shit to make them interested in picking up the new gen 6 games.
It's its own continuity and has nothing to do with the regular anime.
It's also pretty shitty
Yeah. One of my favorite legendaries of all time.
Got this stylish motherfucker of a model on my shelf, one of very few Pokemon figures I own.
You won't exactly be confused, but the movies aren't intended as standalone works, so they do have a tendency to have main characters and Pokemon that spend the entire movie standing around in the background not doing shit because the movies obviously have to use the current group from the TV show.
I wanted to see two pokegirls fight over boob size
Xerneas and Yveltal's exclusive signature moves are fun as fuck and extremely powerful.
Xerneas has Geomancy, which boosts Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by two stages each after charging for a turn (can and should be negated with Power Herb).
Yveltal has Oblivion Wing, an 80 power Flying move (Yveltal is half flying, so it gets STAB) that heals the user by 75% of inflicted damage..
Pokemon trainers are a bunch of fucking pussies anyway, standing by the sidelines, shouting at their Pokemons like some possessed freak while their beloved pets fight themselves to death.
Might as well drop from a building then.
Oh what the fuck
Fucking Chimecho had a chance to come back
Wobbuffet doesn't even fucking do anything. It's done at most literally 3 things in the entire XY series so far, besides pop out at random times.
no mega evolution so they don't give a fuck
That's why I've been playing each new generation usding only difficulty rebalance ROMhacks that, among other things, give all leaders 6 pokemon.
I remember in Blaze Black around the begginging I found a the typical enemy trainer with only an overhyped Ratata I thought I was gonna curbstomp. Next thing I know, the little IV-perfect fucker has KOed three of my pokemon witth Flame Wheel.
>MC stays 10 for 20 years
>doesn't get stronger, there's no rhyme or reason to who wins a battle whatsoever
>everything else is exactly what you'd expect from a kid's show, nothing to make up for all the badness
How the fuck does anybody actually watch this shit? It's literally worse than DBZ, which is literally worse than Naruto. And yeah, I fucking loved the first three seasons as a kid, but I was a fucking kid. You have no excuse.
My excuse is I'm not a faggot like you.
>throws away his pokemon at the start of each season because durhurr
>still loses fights with some regularity
>pikachu get's KO'd by retarded shit even though it should easily be lv 100
>thinks pokemon don't canonically get stronger by winning fights in the animeverse
>leaps on an obviously tongue-in-cheek statement because he has no argument
I guess I really should have known better than to try and reason with actual children.
No, fuck you.
All I get is a low level but decent pokemon.
All my other pokemon are shit tier when starting out. I mean, who the fuck beats a gym leader with birds, bugs and rats. That aren't even the proper type!
You better give me some handicap, asshole!
>does the exact same things again, after I already pointed them out
This should be fun. Let's see you do it a third time.
>not going with the fire type starter
Then again, I think in the later generations it doesn't mean shit since they created shit pokemon with all three types roaming around the first forest you enter.
Things really have changed since gen 1
Not as good as BW/BW2 (especially since there is zero fucking postgame stuff to do) but the player customization is nice. I like the visuals a lot and AZ is probably one of my favorite Pokemon characters.
Here are the objective facts.
>Best Kanto starter
Squirtle but Pikachu is also an acceptable answer if you want to get technical about it.
>Best Johto starter
Cyndaquil, but Totodile is also acceptable as it is pretty much equal to Cyndaquil. Chikorita a cute but not best. Johto starters are the best starters of any region, though.
>Best Hoenn starter
Mudkip and only Mudkip, this is not up for debate
>Best Sinnoh starter
Piplup. Turtwig is tolerable. Nobody cares about Chimchar.
>Best Unova starter
They're all pretty equal. Snivy has the best final evolution so that might put it ahead of the others. Any answer is okay, though.
>Best Kalos starter
Froakie but that's not saying much. Fennekin is cute but its evolutions are kind of creepy and Chespin starts off cute only to become a complete abomination somewhere along the line. Froakie at least has the benefit of a cool final evolution so there's that.
Well its supposed to be the pokemon representation of death
>mfw it's finally pointed out to me that the psychic twin gym leaders from 3rd gen are not twin girls, but a boy and a girl
All these years were a lie.
>Fennekin is cute but its evolutions are kind of creepy
>watch XY just for the animation
Do it, it's really worth the watch.
>fell in love with Lucario ever since that old movie with Mew
>Pokemon is now completely and utterly ruined by furfags
One time somebody I knew just admitted out of nowhere that they find Lucario and Lugia sexually attractive. Why the fuck do people have to get weird about Pokemon? God fucking dammit. I know we're on 4chan and all but wanting to bone a Pokemon is just one of those things that's never going to be okay with me. I hate furries, fuck.
The game is easy mode thanks to the very early Exp Share, after the 2nd badge if I remember, giving the same exp to the entire bench as the active Pokemon
The character customization was the best addition
Competitive is hilariously whacked with a good number of Mega Pokemon tiered with the Legendaries, (and of course Mega Rayquaza being overpowered against everything) but thankfully the official tournament format being Doubles alleviates it a bit
Thankfully Ash will never get a Gardevoir
Shame Goodra the required "powerhouse that needs to leave for balance reasons"
>Sugita and Ono have had Pokemon roles
>HanaKana has a Pokemon role
>Aya Hirano never had a Pokemon role
