Jurassic Park still looks good after 22 years.

I don't understand why this technology is so unavailable to everyone at this point.

It simply has to be budget. X amount of dollar gets you Y amount of aesthetics. They simply don't have the money for Jurassic Park tier CG.

No, because even if the models are good, the animators dont know how to animate in cgi, the rigs have glaring issues with how the weights were painted, the shaders never match the 2D elements, and the compositing is full of QUALITY.

Every example posted in these threads has these, and only people with poor eye sight who dont know what they are looking at think the shit looks good.
>>
>>133069380
This honestly,
they try to distract with these fast moving camera movements,

Take that exact statement and apply it to 3DCG
Unfortunately, there are what, maybe 3 or 4 competent studios when it comes to 3D.
>>
>>133069827
That's exactly the same with 3D studios. Orange and Graphinica are trying. Even shits like Sanzigen emulated Imaishi's style once
>>

>>
Why don't CGI animators just use game engines to render their content? I see a lot of progress in good looking animated graphics coming from realtime rendering in game engines but not much from software like Max and Maya.
>>
>>133069990
That pretty much sums up the entirety of CG as I see it right now.

It's way too early for it to look any good other than mecha fights. Most studios don't even try with their CG and it just looks like trash. See: That one episode of mekakucity actors where they had a CG opening.

I'd much rather have QUALITY 2d than shit CG
>>
>>133069975
it's supposed to support my original point. that it's hardly anime at all.

>>133069997
my guess would be that offline renderers offer more non-developer customization via shittons of plugins/modules while game engines need programmers to do more fundamental changes.

CG is even more budget sensitive than 2D sadly.

As far as a pure CG show goes, Sidonia might be the best at the moment.. but as tech improves, it might eventually be able to replicate the 2d look more successfully.

Nah
>>
>>133070096
>See: That one episode of mekakucity actors where they had a CG opening.
that was shaft doing shaft things.

I.e. they ran out of time and probably just released the CGI scene reference in place of the actual drawn content or some shit like that.
>>
>>133069990
Maybe,
the future will show if the same quality is ever reached.
I don't really believe so, as I think all the fluidity and charm of 2d animation is not reachable by 3d, especially when it comes to characters,
but maybe I will be proven wrong.
For now it sucks, even mecha animation.
To be honest a lot of 2d mecha animation sucks too.
But some scenes transcend and reach a godlike level of quality and awesomeness, which will be hard to beat with 3D the way it is used now.
>>
>>133069575
Yeah, I suppose but I mean it is fairly decent even for chibi, it was still just a TV anime so they sort of had to use chibi if they wanted to keep to their budget at all.

I don't really think the chibi thing really detracted from the show at all, it was also pretty awesome seeing each girls chibi form if you didn't read spoilers before hand.

>>133069997
Game engines are actually fairly shit in CGI terms, Most modern games relies on a ton of action happening on screen and special effects to distract the player, the models and animations themselves tend to be put on the side.
>>
>>133070400
take the transition from cel animation to the digital process. took a decade to get us to the current point.

And that was just doing the same shit with different tools. 3D is more than just new tools to do the same process. It's a quite different process.

Of course it's going to take a long time. But they have to start somewhere.
>>
>>133070400
I agree with keeping character animation separate, but when all that gets watched with CGI is shit tier Satelite garbage, it makes sense that the hate for CG is so strong. There happens to be a lot more out there, but it just doesn't get talked about very much.

Would it surprise you to know that Casshern Sins had CGI? Which is funny because it's often praised as one of the more gorgeous looking anime out there.
>>
>>133070524
>take the transition from cel animation to the digital process. took a decade to get us to the current point.
There was quite a lot of good looking digitally colored anime even a decade ago.
While 3d anime animation never managed to convince me.
I understand that they have to start somewhere, but can't they do it somewhere where it doesn't ruin my gundam?

Many recent anime have been using CGI and most people can't even tell. These are the last days of classic animation.

Someone post that webm of the Punch Line opening with the CG rooms. When CG is used for background art, it can look pretty good.

Are there any subs for Dead Aggressor that don't suck? The BD release I downloaded awhile back has this weird error in which the subs are shifted to the right of the screen and I refuse to watch the dub that the release included.
>>
>>133079882
the new Garo really sucks in all department
>>
>>133068851
It's hardly CGI if it's just a mocap of real dancers.
>>
>>133079958
You should be able to fix that. You're using MPC right? Go to Options>Playback>make sure 'Use the built-in subtitle renderer' is ticked. Restart and you should be groovy,

The dub is doubly stupid because they changed the whole cast between the series and movie. Exodus may never even get a dub.

I like the cast, even though their a far cry from S1's. I'm waiting to see what the overall plot is going to be before making a judgement call on that given most Garo shows take awhile for that to kick in.

The new armor CGI and fights suck dick real hard though.
>>
>>133080079
Oh, hey, that actually fixed it. Can't believe it was that simple.

Thanks!
>>
>>133080231
No problem. I take it you're using the [philosophy-raws] release?
Unfortunately none of the Exodus BD have been released with subs I think, but one anon made sure everything was retimed last week (and is supposedly fixing crunchy's errors too.). You'll have to ask /m/ for the link though.

That's about the only big problem, getting it to look good in motion. Setting up the model rigs themselves aren't that hard in comparison.

That's how it looks from the most heavily-designed angle. I wouldn't be impressed until I saw a turntable gif. Even that ignores rigging and actual animation which tend to be horribly done in anime.

And Square as a whole too had Enix not bailed them out. They probably should have let them die an honorable death than become the zombie they are today.

Square Visual Works, to be precise. If you see good looking videogame CG from Japan it was probably done by them.

You wouldn't, because Square's PE license ended quite a while ago. It was never fully their property.

Well if it wasn't for him Square wouldn't have lived past the 80s.

>Parasite Eve

Why that piece of shit out of all of Square's franchises? Why not a sequel to Chrono Trigger, one that wasn't a gigantic clusterfuck of shit whose only notable accomplishment was taking a rancid dump on the legacy of the first game? Or a follow up to Xenogears which lived up to that game's fullest potential? Or Vagrant Story 2 or Saga Frontier 3 etc.
>>
>>133086331
because it's one of my favorite franchises ? you're free to choose.

>>133066226
Black Rock Shooter and Etotama had good CG.
>>
>>133071406
Overall the graphics in GG Xrd are sweet, but there are brief moments when the animation is...stiff at times.
>>
>>133070096
Garbage CGI is the worst, but a lot of times I will pick meh CG over meh 2D.

It depends really.

With meh animation, it's too easy to get bored or confused of what's happening on the screen, 2D or CG.
>>
>>133070963
Pretty much same here.

I am enjoying the speculation of how IBO will go, but the fight from episode 5 was surprisingly garbage outside Eugene's trick and Mika's weird newtype flash.

To be honest the fight with Crank did a lot more with barely as much animation.
>>
>>133070687
I hope Delta does something other than the ADHD camera from Frontier. I watched that recently and was disappointed. The models actually looked nice, for 10 years ago, but you could barely enjoy them in motion.
