This was the only /a/ archive. 4 months of /a/ have been lost forever ;_;
>Can't see what people are replying to when I see all of the (Dead) posts
How are future generations supposed to know how much Umaru was revered as AOTY??
Sorry to intrude.
I've heard of it, the recent change in hands of ownership. And now the archive too, has been compromised along with our pride.
Heh, what did we do in our pastlives deserving of such a cruel fate my brothers?
Lasted longer than Green-Oval did, if barely. To date the best archive admins we've had were Eksopl and Woxxy. Not coincidentally they were also the ones who did the most to develop the archive system. Passing it off to some guy whose only goal was to maintain it without developing it further was a mistake.
>all of Hiro's posts are gone
You never know if you are getting good lewds or shitposts.
Kek sounds like he's going to kill himself.
I'd ask him to archive it for us to watch but he'd just lose it.
It's good that his /qa/ posts are preserved. He's posted on other boards now and again too though. Immediately after his Q&A, he started posting across multiple boards.
When Rome came burning down, scholars in the middle east kept copies of many of their texts so they weren't lost forever. Maybe some /a/non out there was keeping a separate copy on his own storage.
Originally /a/'s archive was just a personal project of a Russian anon. Then he made his code available to people.
The reason /a/ hasn't had its own archive in a very long time is because the /a/rchive became the foundation of the modern 4chan archives on Foolz and Archive.moe. This is the reason that /a/ has the oldest threads in the mainstream archives, because the Fuuka archiver was developed by /a/nons.
I do that all the time. The thing is archive was great for quick searching, you can find anything in literally seconds if you remember some words or filenames and you don't have to carry all of your saved pages around with you.
>one hundred tabs of archived threads
Well shit, guess I'm fucked now.
>I.10.2-3 (Bar of Prima); 8258, 8259: The story of Successus, Severus and Iris is played out on the walls of a bar: [Severus]: тАЬSuccessus, a weaver, loves the innkeeperтАЩs slave girl named Iris. She, however, does not love him. Still, he begs her to have pity on him. His rival wrote this. Goodbye.тАЭ. [Answer by Successus]: тАЬEnvious one, why do you get in the way. Submit to a handsomer man and one who is being treated very wrongly and good looking.тАЭ [Answer by Severus]: тАЬI have spoken. I have written all there is to say. You love Iris, but she does not love you.тАЭ
Fucking cucks I swear
All I care about are the Madoka threads. The Madoka threads must live on for eternity.
>I.2.20 (Bar/Brothel of Innulus and Papilio); 3932: Weep, you girls. My penis has given you up. Now it penetrates menтАЩs behinds. Goodbye, wondrous femininity!
One of the first trapfags.
This is fucking terrible.
No webmaster is stupid enough not to backup their databases. This was a deliberate act
Either way I'm horrified
>VI.6.1 (House of the Olii; on the Via Consolare); 139: The city block of the Arrii Pollii in the possession of Gnaeus Alleius Nigidius Maius is available to rent from July 1st. There are shops on the first floor, upper stories, high-class rooms and a house. A person interested in renting this property should contact Primus, the slave of Gnaeus Alleius Nigidius Maius.
So they even had commercial spam back then. They could have really used a captcha.
No professional webmaster at least, in all likelihood he was an amateur without that much experience because of things he said like "a number of mistakes" and not feeling he's cut out for the job of running the archive.
/a/ originally had the best archive, hands down, that's why the archivers took on the task of hosting a bunch of other boards. Because /a/'s archive was integrated into the main archive there was no impetus to create a separate one.
Secundus is the original proto-/b/-tard, a man of such faggotry and disgusting habits that he ascended to the realm of the ancient gods.
Legend has it he told moot in a dream to create /b/ so that his spirit would live forevermore.
It was /jp/'s archive that originally spawned the /a/ archive and other related archives.
/a/ eventually surpassed the /jp/ archive, but it also has had more owners and crashes. A shame that the warosu admin never wanted to archive /a/, since he seems to know how to run this shit.
>there are faggots so new they have never experienced a time without archives
>there are faggots so new they want archives
the /g/ archive was pretty darn useful for searching both hardware and software recommendations.
Google is useless horse shit filled with nothing but advertisements in comparison. Finding "the best <thing>" is impossible without conversation among nerds.
The villain shows up to laugh at the results of his action.
>It was /jp/'s archive that originally spawned the /a/ archive
Oldest /a/ archive is from 2007, little more than personal project, but was the foundation of the Fuuka software used by virtually all major archives now. Easymodo also predates /jp/. I have no clue where you get this idea that /jp/ somehow came first in the archives.
>/v/ is being removed due to the amount of stress it causes on the servers.
/a/'s being hosted by a ponyfag right now, but his archive has no search function so it's not very useful at the moment
but at least nothing is being lost
also a private collector is working on saving the last 4 months
Go to fucking Gaia, loser. Pre-schism /a/ was a mile a minute, had no Big3 faggotry, and was fun and funny damn near every day due to the fantastic thread turnover weeding out shit.
But who will archive the template threads, console wars, and filename threads now?
Nah, Ancient Greece bros were far ahead.
Actually, what turned /jp/ into what it is today was of terrible administration and dedicated shitposters, the board was alright for a while. I don't think that tearing down the wall nowadays would work.
>tfw no longer have to run script to randomize image filename numbers so I won't be accused of crossboarding when some autist searches up the filename in the archive
Instead of panicking, we need to make a concrete strategy to ensure that no more is lost by getting a new archive, or at least getting a temporary home for /a/'s archive until we can get someone to take over on a permanent basis.
I think the best option might actually be 4plebs, since that's probably the next most active archive. It seems they might be amenable http://archive.4plebs.org/plebs/
But in the long term, we need a more sustainable solution. As in, whoever is going to do the archive probably needs a bit of money.
>The split causing its existence caused it to become shit? I guess that makes sense?
No, you fucking retard newfag. /jp/ used to be fun when it started. Then the people that went to /jp/ from /a/ when both boards were one suddenly were outnumbered or left and that caused /jp/ to become a shithole, like it is now.
The /jp/ part of /a/ was pretty easy to spot when they were one.
Same thing after they were split off. You had random vagrants coming back and forth to troll each others' boards that they had claimed as home.
Eventually they got tired as you were essentially shitting on post-war reconstruction societies and more or less shooting mud. That, and after equalizing, /a/ had far, far more ability to fuck around than /jp/ did in the reverse direction.
Have you people ever even gone to /jp/? All the "shitposter old guard" has left for spinoff boards and IRC, the board's been reduced to monstergirl furries, kancolle mouthbreathers and /c/ imagedumpers
I'm going to miss doing this for navels.
Also going to missing looking through old threads after finishing a series from past seasons.
quite the loaded question you got there
Don't forget this exists http://boards.4chan.org/a/archive
Deleted posts are still gone but at least all images not deleted are there for a short period of time. Careful not to overload it by massive downloading everything.
>We don't need Touhou autism back on this board
Pre-schism, the most concentrated touhou was the odd /c/-in-/a/ thread, or a touhouhijack (which admittedly is impossible now unless several people are working together). It's /jp/ that became such an echo chamber that autistic waifu/character threads.
Like quest threads on /tg/, it's more a symptom than a cause of a board being shitty.
Both those generals keep to themselves and only make new threads after their current ones die (or at least get to page 10), which usually takes about an entire day. You'll barely ever see them unless you pay attention to the catalog.
The /c/ image dumps have always been there as well, there isn't much about Touhou to discuss other than which 2hu would you fuck.
Ikr! Most of the fags here don't know that DBZ is the best anime! Crazy I know!
Are you kidding? Touhou shit being way over represented on /a/ was one of the main reasons /jp/ was created. Because it got CONSTANT threads despite being only tangentially related to the board's topic. Touhou was /a/'s version of Homestuck before there was a Homestuck.

>mods can now delete any thread they want and nobody will ever be able to call them out
>The only boards who don't have an archive now are /m/
Kind of sad there's no /m/ archives; they often get some decent tidbits I more often miss on /a/ when it comes to a series with mecha. And they have the Twintail and MuvLuv threads that I regularly hover over and refer back to as needed.
They also sometimes delve into older /a/ territory, so that's nice as well.
it was only a matter of time since the abunch of thumbnails and images were lost almost immediately after the transfer from Foolz. and so the cycle is destined to repeat yet again.
We lost some blue threads didn't we in those 4 months? Let's hope for some autist archiving them or the anon dumps it again one day.
Well, I know which thumbnails I'm going to restore first.
So the Kizu announcement is lost forever, huh?
Almost like it never happened at all.
wait wait wait I have thousands of threads that I still need to read through?!
>I don't like the guy who's doing this archive
What does that matter? Just use the damn thing. Why does everything have to be personal with you people? Who cares if he likes horseporn
>All the posts and images about bullying Carol are gone.
We'll have to wait and see, but who fucking cares in the end. What if he's a horsefucker. We also have Tenbore but we still use the panda. If the damn thing works just like .moe, then I don't see any issue.

There were threads for Chaos Dragon? People actually watched that shit?
Oh no you don't you piece of burnt up dogshit.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but decrepit halfbreed babushkas are always disgusting.
Archives are cancer
GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT
If she's so disgusting how come she's so loved?
I just realized my anti-Asuka troll thread that got like 700 replies including deleted posts is gone.
Only by the majority, who coincidentally also happen to have the worst taste in regards to pretty much everything.
Iwata died within the past 4 months, so there are no archives about that anymore ;_;
Isn't there something that can be done to reduce the strain? Maybe limit searches so that it can't look over X number of results and requires you to use other search fields to narrow it down. Limiting the search to only the past month for example. Would this help?
Keep telling yourself that, chump. Also, enjoy your barely above 8k booru images of her. I'll be here enjoying my 20k plus.
We have a pony archive for the current threads, an anon is going to post the text of the threads lost during these four months and the dump that will be posted.
We're not fucked right now. We just have to wait for someone to make an exclusive archive or just deal with .horse
Look, sometimes you watch a show that aired a couple of seasons ago and you know there were individual threads for each episode. So you watch the episodes and then read what people thought about them. It more or less simulates the experience of watching a show when it airs. Certainly better than nothing.
Damn, you just reminded me that I need to finish the vector of this
>VIII.2 (in the basilica); 1824: Let everyone one in love come and see. I want to break VenusтАЩ ribs with clubs and cripple the goddessтАЩ loins. If she can strike through my soft chest, then why canтАЩt I smash her head with a club?
Man that was quick.
Wonder when the next one will come around. I don't mind not having an archive (been here since since 05), but it sure was convenient.
How many is that now? Four?
>we're reading the shitposts from 2000 years ago
>people from 2000 years in the future will be reading yours
Why would I care?
It's actually quite hilarious, given how much /a/ has it's head up it's own ass about how great the board is and how it's the best, you'd think that more than one incredibly unstable person would value this place enough to archive it
>in the far future, someone will misinterpret petty shitposting as a deep, meaningful message about the nature of their peers or their folly of being fixated on Chinese cartoons
I was literally about to sit down and create my own personal archive.
I guess I'll keep going at it so I'll have it for the future, so I can archive my favourite boards
/a/, /int/, and /pol/.
not gonna lie I do this shit too and am currently in the process of going through 5-6 seperate saved sessions of saved threads. if archive.moe went down any sooner I wouldnt be doing this
It was just called the /a/rchive, the actual site is still up, but no longer archives anything. It was made by a Russian anon, his own pet project, but he basically started the development of the Fuuka software that all modern archivers are based on (with Woxxy's version of it, FoolFuuka). It didn't even last a year on its own before Eksopl took over it.
I do my shitposting and baiting there and on /int/ so I don't feel tempted to do it here.
>Americans can be drug tested at ANY time for ANY job and for ANY reason
Then a thread of smug anime girls baiting the Americans.
>III.4.2 (House of the Moralist); 7698b: Remove lustful expressions and flirtatious tender eyes from another manтАЩs wife; may there be modesty in your expression.
>tfw ntr is LITERALLY pleb fetish
From what I understand /a/'s archive goes back to 2008.
Is 4 months out of 58 really that big a deal? Worst case scenario the post-anime Monster Musume threads start number themselves.
If he was this much of a noob unable to preserve backups he shouldn't have been overconfident and given us a fake sense of security that nothing would ever be lost again because he got it covered. Because that's pretty much what he did, he assured us something like this would never happen again because he would have things backed up. No wonder he quit, I would too after such shameful display. I hope that at the very least everything up to June is intact. Summer season was shit anyway, nothing of value was lost but this could have been much, much worse. The only thing I regret losing is the slowpoke and Hiro threads.
It's only a big deal if this site is your life, and attachment can easily be ridden of by spending 2 or 3 days away from here.
Really though, if you spend more than 2 hours here everyday then you should try it.
Guys, go outside.
None of this shit really matters.
Even if you wanted to look back on your old posts, it's no different from reading ancient threads on some shitty forum site.
Let that shit go.
One day, all the archivers will die and their data will not be recovered.
I still remember the loss of archive.installgentoo.org, we lost all /g/ posts from 2010-2012.
But you must move on.
It's not, but a loss is a loss I guess.
I personally don't care since I was here, but I do feel really bad for anyone that watches an obscure show like Rinne or Wooser later on that's sure to never get discussion outside of the threads that were lost.
>tfw I still have most of my threads open in tabs and can still save them
I'm doing my part!
most of them are /v/ thread though lmao get rekt /a/utists
I don't think a few people using a few words you don't like is worth 4 months of discussion being gone.
I don't like all that shm and fam shit either, but it's sure as hell wasn't that big a deal.
Nothing matters in life.
Going outside doesn't matter.
Posting doesn't matter.
Don't go all nihilistic about one thing and not apply it to everything.
According to the anon in the /qa/ thread.
>A server (or a computer running 24/7)
>A webserver (nginx is good)
>Foolfuuka for the frontend and Asagi for fetching
>Plenty of storage space (probably several GB per day for full images)
>Herculaneum (on the exterior wall of a house); 10619: Apollinaris, the doctor of the emperor Titus, defecated well here
Don't you think this is a little suspicious? The archive dies down just as Hiroshimoot talks about implementing a real-time search engine. Now we'll be forced to use his datamining shit if we want to search for something.
>the old fuuka based archives will die in your lifetime
Last time he mentioned it was like a month ago wasn't it? And he's not very smart, I bet his search will be shit and not even half as useful as archive so no one would use it anyway. I find it more likely that it has to do with the shooting.
