Why is everything about Seraph of the End so bland? It's like the most generic anime I ever saw. Who the hell thought it's a good idea to make a series so goddamn generic in every way?
Girls are still cute though.
Don't need plot when best girl is carrying the show
At least it's not trying to be some super serious or deep show about human civilization or some shit.
It's a battle shounen and it knows that it is one.
It might be generic but a completely generic show is better than something that tries to be something amazing and utterly fails.
>At least it's not trying to be some super serious
Have you read the manga? It's 100% serious. They even have human conspiracies flying around trying to make the vampires look better.
According to my book a show that knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything more is better than something that does exactly that and completely fails at it.
Sure, the first option is less interesting but it mostly doesn't end as complete failure.
I want a lesbo vampire to rape her while drinking her blood.
Really. It seems like the vampires are just trying to pick up the pieces from the humans and survive.
I generally root for the good guys in any media but this time around its hard, since the vampires gave them shelter and good and protection in exchange for their blood, even if the vampires are extremely racist.
Those damn fairhaired blood suckers used a doomsday weapon to wipe out everyone of fighting age, and enslaved the remnants and our youth while trying to overwrite our culture with their own! They also speak latin and english, because subtlety!
It's actually heavily implied that the Jap nationalists are the ones responsible for the virus which killed everyone, as well as being responsible for a bunch of human experimentation which will possibly kill everyone in the world. Their leadership is irredeemably fucked up, evil, with little regard for human life. At this point in the manga they are presented as ultimately being worse than the vampires.
i cant remember the last time i saw a manga with the same premise.
On the other hand i have seen at least 3 IS ripoffs and 4 "demon king loses his/her powers and has to live as a human, what a TWIST!" series.
from what I've watched it's basically a AoT clone.
>secluded from bad guys
>training to beat bad guys
>end in BL
I guess the last bit is a little different from AoT though.
I thought I was watching Yaoi no Exorcist for a second
the fuck? AOT is a thriller show where they refuse to tell you anything and the enemies they fight are a mixture of human-titan hybrids and mindless titans.
the two shows are not even remotely the same.
They really have a very similar premise and atmosphere. I know if I generalized it you would just say some shit like "a lot of anime is like that", so i'm not going to bother. I think a lot of people see it so I don't feel compelled to argue with you.
>similar premise and atmosphere
No and no.
>if I generalized
You already generalized almost to the point of absurdity.
>I think a lot of people see it so I don't feel compelled to argue with you.
"Imaginary people agree with me; I win". If you don't feel compelled to argue why are you even bothering with a response in the first place? You're just too insecure not to have the last word on an anonymous imageboard.
The basic scenario is exactly like SnK. Bad thing happens to humanity, now humans live in confined, walled cities and must use special techniques and weapons in order to defeat much more powerful enemies.
Main character has berserker powers that make him significantly stronger and able to stand up to the enemies.
All of the characters, except for Shinoa, are very similar to charaters from other shows. You have the pussy, good natured friend character, the generic tough guy rival, homolust, etc. The protagonist et al have special, super cool weapons like in half of every shonen ever.
Like, I'm having a hard time of thinking of things about the show that are generic because you can point at literally everything.
>Bad thing happens to humanity, now humans live in confined, walled cities and must use special techniques and weapons in order to defeat much more powerful enemies.
That is very broad.
>Main character has berserker powers that make him significantly stronger and able to stand up to the enemies.
I'll give you that. You have one, four more to go.
I'm not the same person who was originally posting. That was my first post in the thread. With that said, i've seen the opinion parroted many times and I have to agree.
If I had to put my finger on the key similarities though it would be the "haven in post-apoc" setting, the face that the Yuu and Eren are nearly identical, and the similarities between Yuu/Guren relationship and the Eren/Levi relationship. Both of these are quite heavy focuses of the works so they feel remarkably similar. All in all, I actually think SnK did it better before it went to shit.
>"haven in post-apoc" setting
SnK wasn't the one who started that though. That is a very widely used setting.
Yuu and Eren are really similar, but vampires and titans are nothing alike.
you are comparing a thriller with a shounen action show and saying they are the same.
I can do this too, watch this.
>main cast is a normal guy who got involved with criminals by chance
>the criminals are not completely bad but are "gray" criminals
>they break the law but dont go out their way to hurt innocents and often fight even worse criminals
>one of the criminals is young but a really talented killer with a mysterious past
>the MC often finds himself questioning whether he is doing the right thing
Guess how many series i just described.
>the face that the Yuu and Eren are nearly identical
In that they want to "Kill all them vampires/titans", sure, but Yuu is an amiable idiot while Eren is a frustrated dick.
>the similarities between Yuu/Guren relationship and the Eren/Levi relationship
The same thing applies here.
Its really not difficult. In addition to the three I just mentioned, both ended up going with the: "the humans in [haven] are even worse than the monsters!" cliche.
Both pull the: "We have to use the enemy's evil power against them!" schtick. Both have the protag having a secret super important backstory thats thinly hinted at despite the ostensibly ultra-generic (not meta generic but in-setting-generic) backstory. (Yuu=Seraph Eren = Prince; or something? I dunno I dropped it.)
At the end of the day i'd call it about 75%SNK + 25% Ao no Exorcist.
Ya, but the Horsemen are basically titans.
>humans live in isolation due to the power difference between a regular person and big bad monsters.
>something "happened" in the past to lower the human population of the world to just a handful which the story focuses on.
>group goes to school to learn how to fight monsters and be heroes
>hero character emerges and kills monsters
the horsemen are minor enemies that are killed in one panel and are not the main antagonists. They have near zero relevance to the plot, pose very little threat to humans and cant even attack the cities due to magic barriers.
the titans are a massive horde of giant beasts that constantly attack the city, are immune to all attacks except ones directed at the neck and are heavily implied to be humans turned titans somehow. They also eat humans.
They arent even remotely the same.
>that smile at the end
5 I believe
I want to impregnate this smug bitch so hard.
In terms of the setting the horsemen serve the exact same role as the retarded titans, they're just mindless things to kill humans that requires them to live in the walls or underground.
Mindless titans are constantly killed in one panel and present absolutely no legitimate threat to the city either. Go fuck yourself. I dunno why you're trying so hard to defend it.
Either its intentionally similar or both or so blatantly generic that they picked most of the same cliches out of the bucket. Its not particularly impressive either way.
Hm, the theme of "embattled humanity" is quite common throughout all genres and cultures - and it may be overdone, but doesn't mean the show is automatically bad.
I'm watching it for Shinoa anyway so I'm not gonna say you are wrong
Why do you always bully U-boat-san?
What are you talking about? I think you got your lines crossed.
Thats like saying people are only comparing Black Clover to Fairy Tale and Naruto because they're the only shounen they know about.
I don't see anything, what do you mean?
