Ranma thread! Other Takahasi's welcome.
Welcome enabler of second best girl
Something seems different about ryoga
You make a good point shampoo-fag
Thanks, I didn't even notice
Well, I feel better about myself now.
But of course, it's always proper to give way to one's juniors, Number Three.
So apparently, the Jusenkyo curse doesn't require specifically water to enable transformations in cursed individuals. There are two instances in the manga of liquids other than water (though water is a primary component of both) that when heated transform Ranma from girl to boy: sake and tea. So it appears that diluted or changed water is just as effective as pure water is at forcing the change as long as the temperature has reached the appropriate threshold.
>want to start new Ranma fan fiction
>have a billion other things I've never finished
>waste days trying to pick what to write
It requires a dousing of a significant portion of the body to initiate a change. Ranma transforms Ryoga with a squirt gun shot to the face at one point, so something more than just dipping in a hand is required.
That bitch who's writing The Autumn Effect has left us hanging for the past two weeks, now's your chance for fame and glory!
About the perfection of Girl RanmaxRyouga, right?
I was going to write a fic where Ranma actually gets hit with the twin water and splits into male and female.
Male goes off to marry Akane like normal while the female Ranma has to learn to live with her curse. Eventually she'd end up with
Another bit of bizarro details to note: something doesn't have to actually drown in a Jusenkyo spring to make the spring cursed. Saffron's number one bitch kidnaps Akane and throws her into a newly-dug spring in order to gain the ability to change into her likeness, but Akane doesn't actually drown, so all those "tragic" stories the Jusekyo Guide rambles about probably aren't all that tragic after all, if something can just slip, fall in, get out again and go about its business without having had to die to curse the spring with its template.
Who in this fucking world is gonna give me a nice written GirlRanmaxRyouga?
God these threads are fucking garbage.
It's just image dumping and retards having retarded discussion. Not to mention the anime is extremely EXTREMELY repetitive shit.
Find a better show to blow your loads to, idiots.
Good luck selling that to Shampoo, she was after the dick.
Bitch, go check AO3, virtually every fic centering on Ranma and Ryoga has Ranma being trapped as a female forever. Your wishes have already been granted, you're just too blind or lazy to fucking find them.
>it's a shitty pairing
Because he knows who that is.
No when Rumiko had to create Akari to erased any fujo implication between Ranma and Ryouga.
Fuck, if Ranma were a girl since the beginning she could had been best anime girl.
More bizarro Jusenkyo details: animals can see through cursed forms despite cursed forms being complete biological shifts from their originals, like Shirokuro recognizing Ryoga in his P-chan form and the phoenix recognizing Ranma in his female form. The exception to this seems to be the Yamato-no-Orochi, which was unable to detect Ranma's true male form from his female form and was easily fooled. Even the monkeys on Horai Mountain were able to instinctually see a pig, a duck, and a girl in Ryoga, Mousse, and Ranma and attacked them as being no threat (as opposed to the Musk Dynasty trio that they fled from out of fear).
I'll have to re-read the manga, but I don't think Ryoga gets fooled by Ranma's tit-flashing even once after the first time except when Ranma is actively employing a disguise to be anyone except himself.
I know the Monogatari Series has its share of haters, but the series is a far better harem than this shit.
It's the same thing over and over again; some wacky event happens, then Ranma and Akane argue.
>thinking Ranma 1/2 was meant specifically as a harem series
The autumn effect lady isn't the worst artist for tumblr
Tumblr will occasionally yield some surprises, but most are reblogs from deviantart or pixiv anyway.
That's really cool.
But wait, there's more. Apparently, the one Herb and the Musks use, is the same one as Ranma's, which obviously, does not turn them into the same girl, but rather, girly forms of themselves. So I suspect that springs which give a "generic" form which resembles whoever gets splashed with them, may be caused by other factors(eg, somebody kept throwing girl foetuses or bones into the spring when it was freshly dug, causing it to be less specific).
Another weird rule never truly elaborated on, is that full immersion(or at least, more than half your body) in a cursed spring is required to get the "cold water transforms you" part going, but getting hit with a few droplets will curse only that part of your body. Like Happy's lump and Taro's back. Full immersion in the spring of your base gender will of course cure you(allegedly), putting you back to 0 templates.
Global Ranma Insanity Thread is (was?) a Ranma 1/2 RPG on the old usenet group that went on for about 10 years before coming to almost as abrupt a halt as the actual series did. Dated back to 1996 or so.
Yet it was a monkey that Herb threw in that pushed him into the same spring, and the monkey came out looking like Ranma's female form. It's an inconsistent transformation, because like you said, Herb's female form resembles Herb, not female Ranma.
Untrue, he doesn't react that way at all when those tits are attached to things he doesn't like.
I think, ultimately, Takahashi just didn't give enough of a fuck to maintain consistency, would sacrifice it for the sake of the story, and >>124552493 is correct.
I quite enjoy Nodoka in the Autumn Effect and look forward to the Saotome Christmas party
I'm not sure whether I feel sorry for Genma or not that Nodoka basically gives no fucks about him throughout the manga, and is instead totally fixated on Ranma's fate. Even when she finally confronts Genma in his human form, all she cares about is what happened to Ranma. I don't know if Takahashi did that to poke fun at Genma being just a side note in their family, or if she was making some sort of objectification statement that Nodoka used Genma as a breeding tool and basically has no further use for him beyond that.
It's a pretty consistent running gag all the way up until she finally catches Genma in his human form, he even gripes about her lack of thought on his behalf on his panda signs.
Wrapping a turd in sugar doesn't make it any less a turd; it took a good long while in the manga for Ryoga to stop wanting Ranma just dead, regardless of Ranma's more charming assets.
I'm not sure if that was to put off fujoshi specifically. She did have a tendency to create new characters so that everybody has their happy ending. It happened to some of her female characters too.
Besides, it's not like canon pairings ever have any effect on how people express their love for a series.
Except that nobody in Ranma 1/2 got a happy ending, per se. Shampoo and Mousse didn't get together, Ranma and Akane's wedding fell through, Ryoga tries to get back to Akari and ends up at the wedding instead so odds are she's given up on him from his lament that the "expiration date on her gift" had already passed, Konatsu's still Ukyo's duncecap employee. Since both Akari and Konatsu were intro'd well after the primary characters, they seem to be later additions not originally planned for when taken into consideration that the primary cast had all the ingredients necessary for happy endings long before either of them entered the picture, if happy endings were ever her intention in the first place.
That does seem to be the favored catalyst in the series, true.
I really liked this really cute fanfic where this college student befriends a ranma that was stuck in girl form.
I'm gonna go to japan and track her down and scream at her which is the best pairing and she is gonna be like wut
Yours and mine both. Their rivalry is sort of the standard by which I judge rivalries, and so many fall short.
You'll never withstand her terrifying battle aura!
What I wonder caused all the Ryoga/ranma stuff. Not that I am complaining, it's my favorite pairing.
There was always a hint that if they weren't fighting against each other, then they would be great as a team, as evidenced by all the times the story forced them to team against a common enemy (Kodachi, the Ice Skating competition, Happosai, etc etc), but it was the double-whammy of the Mark of the Battle God arc (when Ranma confesses to Ryoga that he's the only man he sees as his rival) and the Love Lure arc (when Ryoga first sees what a Ranma not completely self-absorbed and in love is like) that put that ship into the water for the first time as a dreadnought that still sails almost 30 years later. The enemies-turned-rivals-turned-friends trope is only one step from adding -turned-lovers to it to make it one of those timeless love stories that echo through the ages. It's been said before that if Ranma 1/2 were written today by anybody except Takahashi, that might have actually been a viable endgame for the series, and that the only two things that stopped it from being the case were the era it was written in (late '80s) and Takahashi herself.
>implying Shampoo wasn't a better partner in crime for Ranma
They try on disguises together, Ranma picked her over everyone else for the hotsprings race, and she goes on the big Ranma adventures all the time when the other fiancee's have to stay at home because they're too weak.
Shampoo a best.
Look at how wrong you all are.
I prefer Kuno splitting Ranma with his sister.
> and that the only two things that stopped it from being the case were the era it was written in (late '80s) and Takahashi herself
>Takahashi herself was why it wasn't written
So you're basically saying is that the idea was never meant to be even close to canon, even in the gag skits.
I actually identified with Ryouga closely as a kid and I still hate Ranma for his shit. Pretty sure that they were never meant to have anything more than grudging respect going for each other.
Ranma uses Shampoo flagrantly throughout the series, but often dumps her for others before anything more comes from it. The Hot Springs obstacle race shows this on no less than two occasions that he doesn't give a fig about her as a partner unless it gets him something he wants for himself. It's not Shampoo who goes to fight the Musk Dynasty, to help Ranma with the Hiryu Shoten Ha technique, and when Ranma has the chance at Jusendo to put Shampoo in his thrall forever, he refuses it. Ranma gains nothing from Shampoo except the occasional convenience in his scheming; he and Ryoga feed off each other professionally and personally on a level Shampoo couldn't match, and Ranma consequently places more value on and more trust in Ryoga than he does Shampoo. I actually feel sorry for Shampoo more than the other female suitors; she has the most motive to come out on top given the pressures of her society and her great-grandmother, but she's so clueless as to whom she's dealing with and what he wants/needs all she does is botch every attempt to change Ranma's regard for her as something more than just another of his personal fan club (basically, the same category he puts Ukyo in).
>implying Ranma would even be half the martial artist he is if it wasn't for the Amazons
>implying Ryoga has done anything to help Ranma grow as a fighter
>implying Ranma doesn't legitimately have fun with Shampoo the few times they are actually getting up to hijinks together
>implying that's not copypasta
Let's not be so serious about comedy harem animes.
Spoilered for real world stuff:
Shortly after the war, it got brought over by the Murkans. And Japanese doctors found they could make a killing advertising it as a cure for "phimosis"(in reality, most east Asians are pretty loose-foreskinned, so there's more than enough cover when flaccid)
"Grudging respect" doesn't get a guy who wanted you dead less than a year ago to jump naked to your defense to save you from being devoured alive by some phoenix mutant's cocoon. I fully believe by the time the Musk Dynasty arc ended, "grudging respect" was a thing of the past between the two of them and they'd moved on to actually being friends who just bicker over stuff, mostly revolving around Ranma being amused at how much he can fuck with Ryoga.
Time-honored tactic that keeps working? Of course you're going to fuck with your pal. Ryoga even mentions that's Ranma's usual trickery during the Hiryu Shoten Ha arc so it's not like he's unaware of the potential for any female paying undue attention to him to be Ranma in disguise, he's just dense as lead and blinded by loneliness that he can't look past that need being fulfilled long enough to recognize that he's being jerked around (again) by the guy who always jerks him around (again).
There's a fanfic where that happens. Ryoga goes to America for a few years, comes back, meets a disowned Ranma working in a dive bar in disguise as a girl named 'Kaori', recognizes him and pretends not to, and they go off and fuck like rabbits as a "game" because they'd both had the hots for each other before Ryoga left that had gone unrequited. It's sadly incomplete and hasn't been worked on since last year, it wasn't terrible.
Urusei Yatsura > Rumic Theater = Mermaid Saga > Maison Ikkoku > Inuyasha > Ranma
Never seen Rinne. Probably worse than Ranma, but that's not the point. Ranma is literally just the Ryunnosuke home from Urusei Yatsura. A cheap clone, with significantly less charm.
God I hope the Autumn Effect doesn't befall that fate.
We'll defend your country, as long as you give us your foreskins.
Where I End And You Begin - The Midnight Cowboy (told from Ranma's POV) and Where I End And You Begin - The Day Tripper (told from Ryoga's POV). Author is Human_Being on AO3.
It's a very slow and wheezy sort of life, but yeah. It'll never be as big as ff.net's stash, but at least the quality of story seems to be a lot better on AO3.
It had better not. I will cut a bitch.
>all of the Ranma/Shampoo stuff is shitty crossovers with Harry Potter
Yeah, quality is real good.
Compared to the steaming hellhole that ff.net's archive is? Consider it a blessing it's been crossed with something as classy as Harry Potter.
God is a cruel master to take him and not that cunt John Biles instead.
That's one of several questions about Ryoga that no one has an answer for.
Nah, they fall off once during the Mark of the Battle God arc and Ranma picks them up. They're definitely cloth.
Reminds me of this fucking watermelon.
Oh haha. I remember posting that one in a previous thread. Thanks for the anon who provided the original Ryoga pic. I messed up a little though, as you can see from the white pixels around him.
We really need to put Ryoga in all kinds of places.
Female Ranma = Ukyo > Shampoo > Nabiki > Akane > the rest
Also, who /dub/ here?
Ranma's one of the few series I can watch dubbed or subbed and be equally satisfied.
Use this one. I cleaned up more of the white spots, so it should come out nicer in future.
I have a feeling somebody did this before me.
