So apparently, the Jusenkyo curse doesn't require specifically water to enable transformations in cursed individuals. There are two instances in the manga of liquids other than water (though water is a primary component of both) that when heated transform Ranma from girl to boy: sake and tea. So it appears that diluted or changed water is just as effective as pure water is at forcing the change as long as the temperature has reached the appropriate threshold.

Another bit of bizarro details to note: something doesn't have to actually drown in a Jusenkyo spring to make the spring cursed. Saffron's number one bitch kidnaps Akane and throws her into a newly-dug spring in order to gain the ability to change into her likeness, but Akane doesn't actually drown, so all those "tragic" stories the Jusekyo Guide rambles about probably aren't all that tragic after all, if something can just slip, fall in, get out again and go about its business without having had to die to curse the spring with its template.

More bizarro Jusenkyo details: animals can see through cursed forms despite cursed forms being complete biological shifts from their originals, like Shirokuro recognizing Ryoga in his P-chan form and the phoenix recognizing Ranma in his female form. The exception to this seems to be the Yamato-no-Orochi, which was unable to detect Ranma's true male form from his female form and was easily fooled. Even the monkeys on Horai Mountain were able to instinctually see a pig, a duck, and a girl in Ryoga, Mousse, and Ranma and attacked them as being no threat (as opposed to the Musk Dynasty trio that they fled from out of fear).

Another weird rule never truly elaborated on, is that full immersion(or at least, more than half your body) in a cursed spring is required to get the "cold water transforms you" part going, but getting hit with a few droplets will curse only that part of your body. Like Happy's lump and Taro's back. Full immersion in the spring of your base gender will of course cure you(allegedly), putting you back to 0 templates.

I'm not sure whether I feel sorry for Genma or not that Nodoka basically gives no fucks about him throughout the manga, and is instead totally fixated on Ranma's fate. Even when she finally confronts Genma in his human form, all she cares about is what happened to Ranma. Except that nobody in Ranma 1/2 got a happy ending, per se. Shampoo and Mousse didn't get together, Ranma and Akane's wedding fell through, Ryoga tries to get back to Akari and ends up at the wedding instead so odds are she's given up on him from his lament that the "expiration date on her gift" had already passed, Konatsu's still Ukyo's duncecap employee. Since both Akari and Konatsu were intro'd well after the primary characters, they seem to be later additions not originally planned for when taken into consideration that the primary cast had all the ingredients necessary for happy endings long before either of them entered the picture, if happy endings were ever her intention in the first place.

There was always a hint that if they weren't fighting against each other, then they would be great as a team, as evidenced by all the times the story forced them to team against a common enemy (Kodachi, the Ice Skating competition, Happosai, etc etc), but it was the double-whammy of the Mark of the Battle God arc (when Ranma confesses to Ryoga that he's the only man he sees as his rival) and the Love Lure arc (when Ryoga first sees what a Ranma not completely self-absorbed and in love is like) that put that ship into the water for the first time as a dreadnought that still sails almost 30 years later. The enemies-turned-rivals-turned-friends trope is only one step from adding -turned-lovers to it to make it one of those timeless love stories that echo through the ages. It's been said before that if Ranma 1/2 were written today by anybody except Takahashi, that might have actually been a viable endgame for the series, and that the only two things that stopped it from being the case were the era it was written in (late '80s) and Takahashi herself.

Ranma uses Shampoo flagrantly throughout the series, but often dumps her for others before anything more comes from it. The Hot Springs obstacle race shows this on no less than two occasions that he doesn't give a fig about her as a partner unless it gets him something he wants for himself. It's not Shampoo who goes to fight the Musk Dynasty, to help Ranma with the Hiryu Shoten Ha technique, and when Ranma has the chance at Jusendo to put Shampoo in his thrall forever, he refuses it. Ranma gains nothing from Shampoo except the occasional convenience in his scheming; he and Ryoga feed off each other professionally and personally on a level Shampoo couldn't match, and Ranma consequently places more value on and more trust in Ryoga than he does Shampoo. I actually feel sorry for Shampoo more than the other female suitors; she has the most motive to come out on top given the pressures of her society and her great-grandmother, but she's so clueless as to whom she's dealing with and what he wants/needs all she does is botch every attempt to change Ranma's regard for her as something more than just another of his personal fan club (basically, the same category he puts Ukyo in).

Ryoga goes to America for a few years, comes back, meets a disowned Ranma working in a dive bar in disguise as a girl named 'Kaori', recognizes him and pretends not to, and they go off and fuck like rabbits as a "game" because they'd both had the hots for each other before Ryoga left that had gone unrequited. Never seen Rinne. Probably worse than Ranma, but that's not the point. Ranma is literally just the Ryunnosuke home from Urusei Yatsura. A cheap clone, with significantly less charm.
