Hajime Ueda just happens to have provided designs for eds in the monogatari series. Also Tsuramaki is at khara. The only trigger guy is sushio on animation direction. Please stop being such a studio pleb.

That was quite good. I'm really loving the whole animator expo thing in general, wish there were more things like it more regularly. I really enjoy shorts, and I love all the collaboration between interesting groups of talent. The work produced seems to be so much more creative and interesting compared to TV anime, (obviously I guess, they are shorts done for recognition and industry cred rather than otaku pandering meant to sell BDs).

Then again I suppose you could say that about most anime post 2005 or so that uses an overtly 2D style, strange subject matter, and a bright color palette.

And since superflat artists often explore themes related to otaku the influence really goes in the other direction and saying that anime has a superflat look is rather silly.

No, you're exhibiting the exact kind of "I read Wikipedia this one time" misconceptions I was thinking of when I replied to the other guy.

Takashi Murakami & his friends have a pretty wide variety of art styles and I've never actually heard any of them call themselves "part of the Superflat movement" or whatever the fuck. He's gotten everyone from anime figure creator celebs (who were popular before their affiliation with Kaikai Kiki) to random Pixiv artists.

It seems to be like a misconception from US journos that Murakami sees "Superflat" as a "movement", because every time I've read his words it's simply a word he uses to describe the flat and stylized look that Japanese art has had since practically forever. To claim himself as the one who started "the Superflat movement" would be ridiculous and would go against the very meaning of the word.
