Why is this so rare? It's dangerously heartwarming.

Yotsuba is sincere.

She's 5.

Because some people don't encourage it.
My mother hated being called mother/mommy and any similar term.

Welp.

Anyway, Yotsubato is seriously heartwarming and it panders to my paternal instinct which surprisingly enough is still there under that massive pile of frustration, self-doubt and insecurity.
It would be easy as fuck to shitpost the fuck out of Yotsubato threads with "beta male raising another man's brat shit", but even I wouldn't sink that low.

In Japan, speculation (fueled by implications from interviews) currently has it that Koiwai-san used to be a mercenary and he ended up killing somebody he wasn't supposed to kill, and he's now taking care of their daughter as a form of atonement.

I don't know about the whole mercenary thing, but in this page, Yanda and Jumbo seem to be reminiscing about when they served in the military. It's probably safe to assume that they all met when they were touring whatever country they were in.

New guy barging in.

The first part of Usagi Drop feels like your usual Slice of Life with some drama moments added in, however, the interaction in the father/daughter relationship is pretty good and it was obviously a strong point that many enjoyed.

Then comes the time skip, and the tone of the manga becomes different, with it abandoning some of the heartwarming situations you may have been used to read in the earlier part, it could be said that the author wanted to make her work into a more "mature" one.

To be honest, I think both parts are good on themselves, and the problem some people have with the entire work is because of how the 2 parts are connected with each other.
Let's say instead of a single story it was 2 different works, the first one would have done it's job quite well, and everyone that got into reading it would have had no qualms with it. Kinda like those that only like the anime.
The second one would have obviously been pandered to a different shoujo audience, and while it might have been just another shoujo/romance/drama manga out there, people wouldn't have had trouble with it.

Of course, some people liked how the story went, so I'm only saying that, to me, if Usagi Drop was 2 works instead of one it would have been much easier to enjoy.

OK, HOLD THE FUCK UP

So, we have this thing about Yotsuba being a second Asagi, and that the only reason as to why Asagi ended up being such a dyke cunt was because of her cunt mom.

Wouldn't that mean that Yotsuba will end up being different from Asagi in the future? Unless, of course, the both of them end up spending too much time together, or with Mom.

Also, if Ena takes after her father, and Asagi after her mother, who does Fuuka take after?

The previous neighbor of the Ayase family?

Yotsubato prequel when?

Maybe Koiwai was participating in a war as a war translator and saved Yotsuba from being killed like her family in front of her eyes in the jungle of Nigeria in a heart warming yet cruel story.

The sequel could be a love story between Koiwaii and the adolescent Yotsuba.

Damn, I think that's good. Does someone have the email of Azuma?

And throughout all this mess, nobody would notice all the anons who would simply refuse to deal with reality any further and silently step out. Afterwards, /a/ would become a cold, lonely place, with no new posts being made but a few old threads sitting on page 1 as sad remnants of the fire that had destroyed a civilization once.

Later, when moot was asked to comment on the death of /a/, he would pretend to have said on that fateful day: "I felt a great disturbance in the chans, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."

For those of you who don't know what paraffin fuel block is, see pic related.

It's probably a banned substance in the US because I never see them around, but if you backpack across the world, especially third world countries such as southeast asia and eastern europe is it really ideal stove fuel.

Getting a propane/butane/white gas stove in and out of a plane is a major pain in the butt and a lot of different countries have different standard fittings for those gases, so if you're crossing a lot of borders you wouldn't want to count on your destination to buy fuel.

Yanda and Jumbo is more likely talking about their backpacking / cross country motorcycle trips.

>>124476538
I can't fathom what kind of mentally deficient country would expect a rental store employee to somehow be responsible for the quality of the movie. It is the customer's choice what movie they want to watch, the burden of researching films and choosing one is on them. The stores do not create the content, they merely perform a service in letting you acquire the media to watch it. To expect them to apologize for your poor choices is the height of hubris and entitlement. So if you want to try and sling "American" around like an insult when what you mean is being able to afford oneself a measure of personal responsibility in return for the freedom to choose, then I'll gladly accept the label if it means not being a part of your nanny-state mentality.

It should also be kept in mind that they live in a nice, peaceful area. It's not like Koiwai is letting Yotsuba play alone in the streets of some urban hellhole filled with gangbangers and drug-dealers.

> as well as having parents who drink with their friends.
I think I also saw my parents drink a time or two when I was a kid. Getting wasted and passing out is one thing, but a pleasant night of drinking is a pretty normal part of life, not some shameful secret and not particularly traumatic for a child to witness.

The "average" Japanese probably looks at them with mild tolerance but appreciation of their hard work and cuisine. There are very many Indian restaurants here (Indian/Nepalese curry is like my favorite food now and I'd never had it before coming here, go figure). Most of the Indian guys I've met personally have been total bros though. Me and my more cosmopolitan-minded Japanese friends know an Indian guy who's run a bar here for like 30 years and he's the nicest most reliable person I've ever met.

A lot of this stuff is just cherrypicked from a few bad eggs and amplified by salty foreigners who couldn't quite integrate with the culture and want to act like they're the victims because they didn't get the red carpet/silver platter treatment they were expecting from their overhyped fetishized Japan experience.

this though for real

How horrible.

Also, they live in Japan, not an American city. She's isn't going to get abducted playing outside.

Nah, programmer. I get to look down my nose at english teachers, it's a nice guilty pleasure.

>>124486752
Nice.
Do you have to do mad overtime and leave the office building at 9 o'clock followed by a compulsory drinking party with colleagues or is Japan really just about making the impression that you work hard, and not actually working hard?
>>
YKK, Aria or Yotsubato? Which is comfiest?
>>
>>124486857
Those kinds of companies do exist and are probably the majority, but mine's really different.. kind of an oddity really. It's way more laid back. There is still kind of a subtle "never be the first one to leave the office" thing so you're usually there an extra hour or two past the "official" quitting time, but other than that it's pretty relaxed. Not too much compulsory drinking, sometimes go out for a few if people feel like it, and there's usually a fun party after a major project is finished or something. It's not the salaryman "drink till you have to go into work tomorrow" lifestyle though.

One more question, does an average jap look down on anime and sees anime fans as a disgrace to grorious nippon?
>>
>>124476771
The autism is strong in this one. I work at an office building, people's cars get towed because they park in the handicap spots, I still say "So sorry about that!" or apologize as a common courtesy even though it's 100% their own fault. You don't want to lose a client for not being polite. I have no idea how you are going to make it in the real world anon.
>>
>>124487383
Well you're not the one that's towing their car. That would actually be comparable to what that guy is talking about instead of whatever the hell you're bringing up. Or working at the impound lot and apologizing to someone picking their car up.
>>
>>124487646
>Well you're not the one that's towing their car.
You're missing the point. Of both anons.
>>
>>124487117
Yotsuba makes me the most relaxed so I guess you could say that's the comfiest, but YKK is the one I feel the strong emotional connection with. I would say it's my "favorite" but it's actually kind of hard for me to start reading it sometimes cause I feel like I need to get into the right mood first. If that makes any sense at all.

>>124487346
That's tough to answer because it's hard to pin down what exactly the "average jap" is. There are plenty people who spend their days moving from one hostess club to the next spending $300 on hair gel who probably consider anime total kiddie crap, but among the type of people I consider "normal" decent people, who aren't otaku, most of them have at least a passing familiarity with various popular series and wouldn't really think it weird if someone mentioned watching a new show they hadn't heard of. I've been blown away by the number of qt3.14 young japanese milfs who make their kids do the spirit bomb pose from DBZ (before the latest movie, even). I've been trying to get people into Log Horizon, I think the cultural commentary on individualism being compatible with the needs of society is an even better message for them than the MMO nostalgia is for me.

And then of course there's manga, fucking everyone reads manga, forget about it. Everyone knows all about Shingeki no Kyojin now too, it's like Japan's Star Wars.
>>
>>124487346
Not him, but I've been to Japan, and have quite a few Japanese friends. My friend once explained to me that "watching anime, reading manga and playing games like we do" wasn't normal (at the time she didn't know waitto piggus could hide their powerlevels) but I never really went around screaming "I LIKE OTAKU THINGS, PLEASE JUDGE ME!" so I can't say if you get judged hard. Most of my friends there are into the same shit as I am, and the one friend I have who has an idea of my powerlevel but isn't an otaku himself is really open minded in general and doesn't care.

To the point about manga, yeah, I found everyone reads manga. There are a ton of people who read on the train, and oddly enough a lot of people playing idoru games on their cell phone.
>>
>>124487718
Well then just go with the second example. It's pretty dumb to apologize to somebody because they're feeling bad about something they did. At that point you're just apologizing because you feel obliged to do it, just saying sorry to fill up space. Unless it's like >>124479523 said.
>>
>>124487964
Welcome to the world of politeness, fellow Autist. Practice it. It's going to make your life a lot easier.

Holy shit dude, save your autism for the commies on /pol/.
>>
>>124488053
Except I don't live in Japan where you're expected to apologize for anything and everything. You look like a loser here if you punctuate every sentence with a "sorry".

>>124488223
You live in a world where doing rationally pointless comments is considered proper etiquette and failure to live up to those standards is going to make you unpopular, so yes, politeness rules your world as well.
Fainting sympathy for somebody else's misadventure even if it's their own fault is common sense.

I meant "feigning". Holy shit, I need to spellcheck before posting, not after.

There's a difference between being polite and displaying a lack of self-respect. Here in America there's such a thing as being overly-polite, and people will think you're fucking annoying for it. I know a Chinese guy who apologizes for everything to anyone who isn't a close friend and it's embarrassing for all parties involved. There are times that call for you to be overly-formal and there are times to just relax and not bother everyone with that shit.

But we're far past the original anon's point, which is that yeah it's stupid for a rental store employee to apologize for a movie's quality. That's like if the clerk at the grocery store apologized because you bought a can of Dr. Pepper and you thought it tasted like ass.
>>
>>124488819
>That's like if the clerk at the grocery store apologized because you bought a can of Dr. Pepper and you thought it tasted like ass.
You're not supposed to complain to the grocery clerk you retard. You're supposed to send a letter to the manufacturer and tell them that you're a big fan of theirs and that you're really disappointed by the quality of the content of this can.

An acquaintance of mine did this on a regular basis and he got lots and lots of free stuff.

If you're to talk about the majority, not particularly.

Because here's the thing.
The reason some people frown upon seeing big-eyed 2D girls in a pastel palette is usually because they're usually seen alongside the less-than-respecable kind of stereotypical otaku: scrawny and skeletal or fat and bloated, stinks, awkward, autistic, etc.

However, you would have a harder time finding someone in Japan who hasn't had some exposure to manga, anime or games than looking for someone who never had access to it.

So there's difference between anime as a culture and otaku culture as seen through the public.

Holy shit I don't know what train of thought you're riding that lead you to believe that I'm advocating for people to complain to grocery store clerks about the quality of the products they're purchasing. You may want to reread what you just quoted.
