Why doesn't she just say "I don't want to"

Why doesn't she just say "I don't want to" and withdraw from the election?
>>
Can she do it she's the only one running?
>>
>>124344300
Because if she did that it would be bad for her reputation.
>>
>>124344300
I'll take "Because Japan"
Social pressure and all that.
>>
Because without made-up drama there would be no Oregairu.
>>
>>124344355
Well if they say she "can't" then she should just say "Fine, you can call me student president but I'm telling you now I refuse to perform the duties of one"
>>
You can't force people to govern. Someone would happily jump in and fill the void. Maybe no one is running against her because they feel like they wouldn't have a chance anyway. If the girl just announced that she is withdrawing then I'm sure someone would step into the role.

Why doesn't she just do the kumagawa election speech?
>>
>>124344358
She could spin it. "I'm too much of a free spirit for that"
Bam, done.
>>

She'll be too much of a free spirit to shoulder the responsibilities of the soccer club too. No Hayama for her.

I'd vote for kumagawa and his speech any day.
>>
>>124344615
Well couldn't she say "I'm not qualified"?
That isn't weird. It shows humility and respect for the position.
>>
Because you're watching a shitty harem full of forced drama that's overrated as fuck by the plebs on /a/ who read too much into it.
Don't expect anything that actually makes sense from this pile of shit.

>>124344646

>>
>>124344544
I didn't watch the episode but in the LN her reason was kinda complicated. In short she didn't want to be president, but she didn't want to just give up electon either because she thinks it would be bad for her reputation, which she treasures to stay near "cool guys" like Hayama (especially Hayama). Losing to someone weak is bad too. The only choices are to lose to someone actually fitting for the position or become stuco herself.
>>
>School play
>Know I can get a part in the play
>Audition just to see if I could get a part
>Get a much bigger role than what I auditioned for
>Next day tell them that I didn't actually want to do it

Spoilered for blog post
>>
>>124344845
That sounds so forced.
>>
>>124344845
not to mention the only reason she got nominated in the first place was because of bullying

by dropping out of the race she's pretty much gonna be a laughingstock, and she cares too much about her reputation for that
>>
>>124344901
The point is that she doesn't want to sully her reputation, dipshit. Try thinking for a second instead of being a retard.

Why doesn't Yukino do it already? She's the only one fit for it.
>>
>>124344845
Well just explain to her that it wouldn't hurt her reputation that much if at all.

Who would give a fuck?
Who's opinion of her would just be smashed to pieces because she didn't want to be school president?
>>
>>124344901
In short
She just tries to keep her "mask" to become closer to Hayama.
>>
>>124344964

Why does /a/ love shitty shows about Jap normalfags so much.
Oregairu is quite literally nothing but imaginary problems of Jap normalfags and one "I'm totally not a normalfag" edgelord trying to decide who to pick from his harem.

If they stuck to more simplistic problems while having the interpersonal drama take place in the background it would be a lot more believable.

Sure, except this particular scenario makes zero sense. If your class elected your to jump off a bridge does that mean you have to do it? Does that mean you have to ask strangers to help devise a plot that will get you out of it instead of just telling your classmates to fuck off? No, of course not. That would be retarded.

It doesn't have to make sense, she's a dumb, selfish highschool girl who wants the cake and eat it, however unreasonable it maybe.

The club's existence and commitment to solve issues is the unrealistic thing in this whole scenario.
>>
>>124345703
I don't do pot sir, especially not super 10x pot.
>>
>>124345436
The whole "problem solving club" deal is retarded to begin with. Doubly so if it's somehow intended to teach it's socially retarded members how to socialize.
>>
>>124345636
I'm not even against serious content per se - the issue is that the serious content conflicts with the storytelling. It's simply not believable for kids in high school - especially not the "cool" kids - to trust their peers with their personal problems, especially not those who are deemed social misfits.

If serious drama emerged from "cat in the tree" shenanigans, that would be no problem, but the way things are set up simply isn't good storytelling.
>>
>>124345754
Hmm, seems to me that you are the cancer here, shitposter.

>>
>>124345587
>If your class elected your to jump off a bridge does that mean you have to do it?
that has to be dumbest comparison possible, she's being democratically assigned to an important task, she's not obligated to do it but it would be shameful to refuse the honor. I'm guessing you're american.
>>
>But I'd feel better if I lost to someone really amazing.

They shouldn't spend their time and energy catering to this problem. There is no other student in the school that has a worse problem than this?

For many, it's not simple to just say no when people hold you to high esteem/have high expectations of you. If you're not popular or expected you'd never be in this position, but she is popular so she is.

People thinking highly of you feels good.
People thinking lowly of you feel bad.
People not thinking anything of you, depends -if they're nobodies, it means nothing; if they're somebodies to you, it means everything. Disappointing them will hurt.

She want a solution where she is get out of her predicament with no negative consequences. They come to the club for these solutions to problems that can only "solved" through the type of methods used by an outsider. Apparently people like 8man are unsung heroes (like garbage collectors and prostitutes) who keep normal society intact or else it will crumble under its own weight.
>>
>>124344300
I think you all are ignoring the fact that she isn't being allowed to withdraw in the first place. Her Homeroom teacher denied it because he wanted to be able to gloat about "getting a First Year to get over her anxiety and courageously become the Student Council President!"

She's also almost universally hated by the girl population, so the bullying wouldn't be as small scale as some of you are putting it. If something as silly as 8man texting his confession could make his life a living hell, imagine having a reputation of forfeiting or losing the election as president even though you didn't have any competition.
>>
>>124345186
Yeah I don't really get where he's coming from with all this social pariah shit.

>With elections approaching, student candidates in Lucknow, for example openly supported by national and regional political parties, extorted money and vehicles from businessmen, plastered the city with posters and subjected it to their violent and clamorous will. After elections, elected leaders extorted contracts from the university, particularly the works department, forced entry into all important university decisions and exacted protection money from government contractors. They also sported the latest cars, had their own gunmen and strode the university overawing and coercing college principals and university vice-chancellors to do their bidding. They did not stop at university authorities, but extorted money and goods from local merchants, ostensibly to “fund student activities”

Because cultural differences. Clubs are a big part of student life in Japan. Their budget gets decided by the student council, who reviews their activities, their general worth to the school, etc. and gives them money based on this. Imagine being in a society where the only joy you have is having fun in a club, and that club might have their budget slashed by a nebulous organization that you don't know anything about.

The only social misfit in the club is 8man, and if you'll remember Tobe specifically asked him to GTFO when he came asking for their help with his confession. Yui is one of the cool girls of the school, and while no one's friends with Yukino, they generally respect her and know she can be trusted. (because she's so dead serious about everything)

And most of the requests they've gotten have been from their little circle of acquaintances (or at least acquaintances of one) who would have asked for help from the member of the club they knew anyway. Only Yui (at the time) and the guy from the wrestling team were total strangers to everyone from the club.
