Koufuku was pretty conservative in the visual department if you look through the staff list of the episodes, it was pretty much a training programm - fresh directors in combination with experienced storyboarders.

Though it was still pretty good adaption and they turned a 4-koma with a gimmick into a nice SoL anime.

Madoka has absolutely nothing new aside from Inu Curry designs. It had moments that looked slightly better than they usual shows, since they hired freelancers for that (i.e. Umetsu at Homura time stop scene) - but it was absolutely generic as Shinbo direction/visuals go.
