I'm from NW england and I hate the drinking culture up here. I don't drink at all (because I prefer water) but people seem to automatically expect you drink if you aren't a Muslim. And people use any excuse they can to get hammered as often as possible.

See, one thing that's great about America is diversity of food and quality.
In average I feel food here in US is pretty terrible, but there's so many different people here it's not too hard to find good restaurants.
It's not too hard to find good tasting psuedo-Italian, psuedo-Mex, and psuedo-French.
Unfortunately unless you're in west coast finding good Japanese is either expensive or nonexistent, thankfully I can cook my own.

The reason the French call the British Roast Beef is because Britain for pretty much all of the past 1000 years had access to quality cattle, while war ravaged and downtrodden France had to make do with horse and frogs and snails. There are also key ingredients that chefs all over Europe will go to great pains to import from Britain like Worcester Sauce, and Jamie Oliver seems to have found penetration for his kind of cooking everywhere.

I think it was the world war rationing that fucked shit up, so you end up with duc a l'orange made with orange squash and a weird fear of garlic and onions. Like watch any shitty 70s Brit comedy and there'll be some joke about a foreigner smelling of garlic at some point.

Yeah, I am aware. It's not too fair since considering the incredibly rich history the region has, and various different civilizations are all wrapped in one generic "Chinese" cuisine.
But it is what it is, and if the entire mediterranean was unified as a single nation with one large majority tribe, I'd consider it a single cultural cuisine too.

I mean compare with India though, who has just as high a population but their entire cuisine is based off the same exact spices. Their curry is like Kimchee to Koreans. Despite the size of their culture, their cuisine is mostly "same shit over and over".
