/ak/ is simply popular in Japan atm, with the increase of widespread societal militarism due to the economy and the regional situation at hand.

This is completely different from the situation in the 1980's when more actual /k/ related stuff was produced. But at that time, things like Gundam and other Mecha were more anti-war in their tint. Nowadays, there's full blown nationalism and militarism with a straight face at times.

Japan is so obsessed with military stuff in their media because they aren't allowed to have a proper one. Realistically it's because the small size of the Japanese military means very few Japanese youth know anything at all about the military (even less than American youth.) Plus, it's not cool in Japan to hate your country like it is among college educated Western youth and since the military presumably plays with big guns all the time (they don't), you get a bunch of kids who think the military is actually cool.

The best action anime was made years ago when there was still some memories of what war is supposed to be about.

The idea of some sort of actual violence of fighting only exists in JRPGs and LN now and it's become a parody of itself. No one even uses a gun anime and the sword/fist fights are increaingly about magical attacks. Compare the magical boy fights in Naruto to literally anything from Guver or Fist of the North Star. You look at how goofy the newest Kamen Riders compared to the older ones. Rider X would beat people up with a staff. Now we get guys that attack you with fruit. They hesitate to even write about death in a fucking action show. Kill La Kill for instance had two deaths in the entire show and they weren't even humans dying. There were toy commercials in the 80s with a better portrayal of mortality.

Look at the pathetic attempts to show "the horrors of war" in Attack on Titan. Than compare that to something like Area 88.

Japan really needs to go to war with China if we want our anime to get better.
