>girls und panzer
dynamic pro is dead
>Yoru no Devilman featuring the cute adventures of loli Satan and Sirene
Won't happen, sadly.
But as long as it has Ryou casting as many smoldering homoerotic gazes at Akira as he does in the manga, I will be perfectly happy.
Nagai also forgot how to draw after the 70s and all his artistic choices from then on can be invalidated.
>muh white pilder
>muh noseless mazinger
fuck off. if he's wearing speedos then I'm not even watching this.

>implying Nagai never gave Devilman blue skin
>implying that's the Toei Devilman design
>implying they have any reason to go with "family friendly nonthreatening Devilman"
Nagai is about as consistent as Araki when it comes to Devilman's colors, dude.
Someone on /m/ says this is gonna be a real manga adaptation after all. I can't read Japanese but I wouldn't be surprised given stuff like Jojo TV, HxH and Ushio & Tora. Adapting old shonen manga seems to be a trend.
And who cares about QUALITY? The manga was full of it but it still looked fantastic because it was stylistically brilliant. If it keeps even half the appeal of the manga style then that would be enough.
This manga is not very good overall but DEVIL GETTER is awesome. The art quality goes up for that part too.
why would you drop the manga
uhh, sorry, didn't mean to quote that
I guess you might have anime/manga ADD too. It's pretty damn short and lacks filler and the final stretch is super-iconic and memorable.
What if Yasuhiro Imagawa directed a Violence Jack manga adaptation?
Imagine the manga's narration being done by this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDj1KTha8go
>"He has the muscles of a gorilla! The fangs of a wolf!
>Primordial fire burns in his eyes...
>His entire 2.20 meter body is filled with fighting energy!
>He is Jack!
The Shin Violence Jack manga looks pretty good and shows post-70s Nagai isn't as irredeemable art-wise as I used to think. Still not as appealing as his 70s golden years to me, but it looks good.
Devilman anime in 2015? its gonna be some QUALITY garbage with cringeworthy style changes and adaptations. plus its dead on arrival, since nips today are basically allergic to Nagai's shit and no fucking single one is going to give a fuck about it.
The 80s OVAs weren't an accurate adaptation stylistically either. Actually, most of the modern Dynamic Pro OVAs are way more 70s-like in art than 80s Devilman.
For the record, the OVAs still looked good. But the art style was pretty goddamn different.
>nips today are basically allergic to Nagai's shit
Source? Seems more like it's just old and niche at this point.
>80s OVAs weren't an accurate adaptation stylistically either.
exactly, and that was the peak of home animation. do you think they can pull out something better now, all considered?
japanese audience today shun everything that have a bit of complexity or is adapted from shit older than five years. you must be fucking blind to not see the trend of decently written series=100% flop that became the standard in the last years.
So people that talk about memes are a meme as well for intrinsic metaverbal duality? that means that everything could be considered a meme since it can become object of communication between a group of people
the obvious outcome is, since meme means everything, meme means also nothing, and using it is like putting a "placeholder word" box in your phrases.
There's a massive difference between budget and art direction, and modern Dynamic Pro OVAs have more faithful art direction than the 80s ones. An 80s Getter Robo would have likely had better animation than New Getter Robo, but would probably not have looked nearly as Ken Ishikawa-esque.
I mean, it's not just Devilman, look at Violence Jack. Compare this guy's cartoony manga design to the generic looking "gritty and realistic" OVA version. He barely even HAS a design in that one.
Don't get me wrong, I don't expect this anime to look nearly as expressive and crazy as the manga and I'll probably whine about the changes multiple times. But I don't expect it to look horrible.
If you don't want to bother trying to reason with me, you don't even have to see my posts at all. By namefagging I'm giving you a chance to just filter me.
They were all worthy of anime version, but Hitler was so fucking nuts I used to go around and tell the secret origin of national socialism like if I had read it in a history book
I honestly didn't find that manga bad and I was kind of dumbfounded by how much the fanbase hates it. It didn't really matter to me that it doesn't make sense given the original manga's canon; it was pure Devilman in terms of its themes, focusing on both the humanity of demons and the demonic nature of humans.
It's like... yeah, of fucking course Hitler didn't decide he wants to exterminate all the jews because a demon pretending to be a jew killed his first love, of course it's all made up and historically inaccurate. Nagai was writing a shonen manga about demons, not a history book. It was still a story about how human prejudice can grow into something terrifying and "demonic", which is perfectly fitting for the Devilman franchise.
It was also basically a Devilman Time Squad or Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
I wonder how anime fandom would react to a well-executed, modern-day adaptation of the first story arc of the Violence Jack manga, since that one is honestly really well done.
Would most people realize the series is not the horrible abomination they've heard it was, or would they still hate it because Frank "Japanimation" Schöeder, anime culturist and scholar, honorary member of the esteemed Cartoon/Fantasy Organization, writer of "Ba-Doom! America's Very Own Hiroshima: Anime's Explosive Impact on Western Culture", and writer for Anime News Network.com, told them it's objectively bad?
I think it would receive the same reaction as Parasyte and Terraformars. Another violent as fuck anime.
If that becomes popular again, do we expect "manime" like Fist of the North Star or something of that nature?
The Parasyte manga doesn't have a colossal hatebase, though; meanwhile the not-so-good OVAs created the "Violence Jack worst garbage ever" anime fan meme in the early 90s so no one even wants to give the manga a chance even though it's way better.
>expecting to get taken seriously
>excited as fuck
>go to /m/
Who do I blame this time? The Spic or the Dago? Or the Frog?
I mean, fuck, the last time we even got Devilman in anime format was back in 2000. I'm honestly hyped as shit, but the shitposting is literally killing my boner. Let me at least dream that it'll turn good for the few months before the final reveal.
I wonder if this might encourage a scanlator to pick up Devilman Grimoire. The art is probably the second best "modernized 70s Nagai" style I've seen.
I do not agree with Busterbeam on his take on modern Nagai art, and I think he overrates Gainax stuff.
But I don't mind him posting pages from nagai manga.
I don't really like Blue Devilman, but I can live with it if they keep the same story from the manga.
I don't want another 2004 disaster.
>I want to be hyped but it will probably be shit.
I don't know... I enjoyed every anime they put out in recent years (talking about DP, not Actas)
And Actas has money now after GUP's success, so I don't know...
Slum King's birth in Violence Jack is objectively one of the best scenes in manga history
But Actas did Shin Mazinger, Kotetsushin Jeeg and Mazinkaiser SKL.
I hope it'll have a bigger budget than Shin Mazinger though and have more well animated "money shot" episodes (assuming it's not a movie, which it might be, no one seems to be sure yet)
I'm gonna take off my name to see if it gets you to shut up
I thought you'd benefit from me namefagging since you'd get to filter me, but eh.
Wait, I was wrong; Actas didn't do all of the Shin Mazinger episodes. They did the BEST ONES that were well animated from beginning to end.
I'm not sure why people are so upset.
>But Actas did Shin Mazinger,
Shin Mazinger was animated by BEE·MEDIA
and Code and animation assistance is different from animation direction dumbass. Not exactly sure what's there to be hyped about because on top of being old as fuck the majority of the Devilman animated incarnations are shit.
I don't know.
I thought Mazinkaiser SKL was pretty well animated and from what I heard, it was understaffed.
I'll probably get people telling me that I'm blind and shit, but let me just say this.
It was way above anything like Majuu Sensen or Mao Dante. (Both of those were literal slideshows)
And furthermore, I do not expect Gundam Unicorn's level or anything. I just hope it has a nice story, preferably the one from the manga.
My standards are lower for Nagai stuff because his crazy designs and plot often compensate for the little budget.
>the majority of the Devilman animated incarnations are shit.
Get a load of this italiano
Devilman 80s OVA, CB Chara, Devil Lady, Shin Honey were all great. The Devilman TV show is the original and its own thing, good for what it is. Apocalypse of Devilman was the worst one, but it still had some good scenes. The movie was dogshit apparently, but the majority of adaptations are good.
>animation assistance is different from animation direction dumbass
>animation assistance is different from animation direction dumbass
>animation assistance is different from animation direction dumbass
>animation assistance is different from animation direction
And no one objected to that, you stupid italiano.
Actas was involved with Shin Mazinger. I never specified. Please learn the English language, thanks.
>And no one objected to that,
But you did you dumbfuck
>Actas was involved in Shin Mazinger.
No where did I say they weren't involved with Shin Mazinger but you're putting far too much importance into fucking animation assistance.
>No where did I say they weren't involved with Shin Mazinger but you're putting far too much importance into fucking animation assistance.
That wasn't me you dumbfuck. That was busterbeam.
FOLLOW THE CONVERSATION.
>It was way above anything like Majuu Sensen or Mao Dante.
You're pretty much just saying your standards are low as dirt which is disappointing considering that there has been a plethora of well-animated Go Nagai adaptations in a sea of shit.
Do the gaymen from /m/ come in bundle with every fucking Nagai anime thread? because when we talk about manga, everything is fine
thankfully we're not all manchildren still living in the 80's
Some latino dude was translating Violence Jack to spanish by himself but some weeks ago, his thread was erased from
mcanime. Fuck, he just reached vol 9, the half of Violence Jack on the 500 pages edition. Really, fuck this gay Earth. Probably nobody will translate VJ again
It would be cool if the anime looked something like this, but then I'd be setting my expectations too high.
Yeah there are but I'm just saying that animation is not my primary concern since I was fine with everything Nagai put out with the exception of Mao Dante.
Nagai knows how bad the 2004 Devilman movie is, and we learnt through the director of Tokyo Gore Police that he won't readily let anyone touch his baby and defile it again.
So I have hopes that Nagai and DP will make the right decisions on the staff.
check the archives retard.
protip: generalizing on second-hand assumptions makes you objectively a fucking faggot.
example: I talk shit about /m/ because I know what kind of shitty banter thay can come up with, you accuse /a/ of never giving attention to something that's only marginally related to it, without nothing to back it up. where is the difference from mine and your points, you may ask? the answer is the size and activity of the boards. now feel free to go back sucking nigger dicks in your geriatric ward board, cockmonkey
Speaking of Devilman, I watched pic related years ago.
It didn't have an English audio track and the English subs were completely butchered.
Was still pretty entertaining.
Not him, but /a/ rarely talks about Go Nagai, and most threads end up dead.
Giga had shit tons of post on /m/, but not a lot on /a/.
Not that I care though. I just stick to /m/ for Nagai stuff so /a/ is not a total turn off. I come on /a/ mostly to shitpost in naruto and dbz threads anyway, no biggie.
>My "animation assistance" fuck-up resulted in a shitstorm
I'm sorry ;_;
I'm genuinely curious about who's going to be the director.
Who could have Nagai chosen to direct his baby?
Kawagoe? Off to Cyborg 009.
Imagawa? I don't think he's experienced with anime movies. The Lingering Moon of Midday could have been better.
The Ghibli guy who did the ovas, Iida? He passed away.
Anno? He's busy with Eva, and Actas is not his studio.
Yonetani? He worked with Brain Base and Sunrise, but I don't think he ever worked with Actas.
Who are the regular guys at Actas anyway?
I think the director matters more than the studio or animation budget. If it'll be typical anime and make zero effort to be atmospheric and stylish like the manga then that would suck.
People don't like the studio much, that's basically the reason. But I won't judge it until I see some staff and footage.
That's what I've been saying this whole time.
But it goes without saying that I expect decent quality from a movie.
The Grendizer Giga promo looks good enough to me. I'm not too picky.
>There's a difference between a full-length feature and a promo vid.
Indeed, and Giga looked like SKL, and SKL's animation was good enough to me. (inb4 someone start shouting at me for not pissing on it)
You forgot about Ushio and Tora bro. I fucking called it when Ushio was first announced as getting an anime, the very first thread talking about it I said that this is a good sign that they're going to start looking to the past for new anime to adapt and I was fucking right.
I WAS FUCKING RIGHT. BASED DEVILMAN
Nagai would have come back to Devilman at some point anyway. I expected it for its 40th anniversary, but we got Devilman G instead.
The reason it took so long is because of the atrocious 2004 Devilman movie.
Dude that's not true and you know it. Jojo is wildly popular, and the anime only made it even more popular. I'm definitely going to keep up with Ushio and Tora when it airs to get a feeling for how other studios are animating older series but by the gods I am not going to let your pessismistic attitudes ruin my ride on the Devilman hype train.
I'm cautiously optimistic for it.
The studio doesn't bother me too much. I just need to know the director and the rest of the staff before it's a done hype deal.
I don't see how it matters.
Most recent Go Nagai anime adaptations weren't hits in Japan.
BUT I STILL ENJOYED THEM A HUGE FUCKING LOT. I know this is /a/ and all, but seriously? I couldn't give a fuck about the sales, because this is Devilman, and it's not like it needs one anyway.
How is /a/ not hyped for this? I knew the level in overall taste was taking a nosedive but come on. I'm currently watching all of Precure and I still feel like I'm the most hyped person here.
I wished they released at least trailer along with it.
>Shin Cutey Honey
Has Akira in it
>Lady Devil Man
Litterally continues the manga
Most accurate full adaptation of Devilman. And that's even with Mazinger and Jack in it too.
I actually really hope it's not a movie, because I highly doubt they'd be able to pack 5 manga volumes into even a 2-hour movie (and I doubt it would be that long anyway). Being advertised in theaters doesn't necessarily mean it's a movie, since Yamato 2199 was a series and was still screened in theaters.
So even tumblr has better taste than /a/ huh
Also check out this cool CR Devilman Pachinko (and the music video)
Also 2 years ago, we had Nuro Devilman.
A Devilman novel.
Which also had two commercials for high speed internet.
The other one was with a woman but I can't find the video anymore.
Then of course we had coffee Devilman last year.
>inb4 this is fujoshi pandering
I'd still watch it
It's a huge difference. Devilman Lady means that's she's a Devilman named Lady, which is why she's referred to as Lady when transformed. Lady Devilman means she's just a female Devilman. Get it straight.
I'm ready for every thread related to this anime being enriched by PHG.
I wonder if they will turn Grendizer Giga into an actual anime.
Right now it's just a promo for the manga. In any case, the frogs are whining about Maria's boobs. They were never exposed to any of Nagai's work outside of Grendizer, so it's funny to see their disgusted reactions to it.
Now it needs to be shown to Isis. The collective muslim heads will explode simultaneously. It would have been funny to see Wasim's reaction to it. Too bad he went full retard with Islam lately.
Then there's Robot Girls Z plus coming up in summer I believe. It's a good year to be a DP fan. Now we only need Great-hen to make this the year of all years.
don't count your chickens before they hatch.
>Has Akira in it
Not a Devilman work
>Litterally continues the manga
Not a Devilman work especially the anime
>Most accurate full adaptation of Devilman. And that's even with Mazinger and Jack in it too.
A celebration of Go Nagai in general not Devilman
Same here, its actually very fitting since almost everybody in Devilman is a deranged motherfucker or becomes one eventually(or dies)
>It was an OVA that looked like a low budget TV anime.
Because it had the budget of a low budget tv anime. That doesn't mean it doesn't look decent. It just means it's low budget, and that's fine because plenty of series today are low budget and still fun to watch.
OVA doesn't mean more budget by the way.
Also this is a GO NAGAI ANIME/ DP ADAPTATION. You realize that this has been the case for ages, right? It doesn't matter which studio you choose if you have no budget. Even the acclaimed Getter Robo Armageddon ova's animation wasn't that good. In fact it looked worse than SKL on several occasions. If you're watching Go Nagai for the animation, you're pretty much doing it WRONG.
>You realize that this has been the case for ages, right?
You do realize you're full of fucking shit right? Ghibli animators worked on the 80's Devilman OVAs.
>Getter Armageddon had top tier production values.
Only for a few episodes. Getter Robo's character animation was complete shit, and it had plenty of QUALITY moments. It really wasn't that much better than SKL.
Take off your nostalgia goggles and get some glasses.
Whether it was Actas or Brain Base, their work on Nagai adaptations didn't vary much in quality. Just look at all the QUALITY and low animation present in ALL of the Getter Robo ovas. Enma-kun was marred by stock footage like SKL.
It's all shit. But like I said, if you're watching Nagai anime for the animation, you're doing it wrong.
OH FUCK ME, one time Ghibli staff worked on Devilman, and that was like 20 years ago. big fucking deal. As if you forgot about the horribly animated Violence Jack ovas.
Plenty of moments had low animation and QUALITY off model faces. In fact Shin Jeeg didn't have as many frames as Armageddon, it was way more consistent in its art.
Seriously, take off your nostalgia goggles and go rewatch the middle episodes from 4 to 10.
>As if you forgot about the horribly animated Violence Jack ovas.
As if you forgot about Shin Cutey Honey, Re: Cutey Honey and fucking Mazinkaiser.
>Shin Cutey Honey
Funny you forgot the episodes after the initial four which looked very lazily animated.
>Re: Cutey Honey
It was a famous reputed studio doing it. Like Ghibli, it's an exception. It's not like Nagai ever worked with Gainax again.
It was nothing special as far as the mecha animation was concerned. An average episode of GaoGaiGar is as well animated as an episode of Mazinkaiser.
>posting last episode to prove a point
That's retarded, considering the beginning and end of Armageddon had the best animation. It was the middle that fucking sucked. The character animation for the most part was atrocious.
Oh please you retarded fuck.
That's FROM episode 1, when Imagawa blew all the budget.
I'm talking about the middle episodes. Just take a look at all the QUALITY there is in episode 4.
If you want great animation, then you shouldn't be watching DP anime in the first place, because most of them are very lazily animated, and no, don't cite the unique examples where Dynamic Pro worked with famous studio x once, and the animation turned out good.
Which is why complaining about Actas is fucking stupid. Go watch the Majuu Sensen TV series and Mao Dante and look at Actas work in comparison.
It's well above those.
>It was nothing special as far as the mecha animation was concerned
We're not talking about mecha anime in general we're taking Nagai adaptations as a whole.
> An average episode of GaoGaiGar is as well animated as an episode of Mazinkaiser.
You really are bad at this.
>We're not talking about mecha anime in general we're taking Nagai adaptations as a whole.
Nagai adaptations as a whole have more badly animated works than well animated ones.
>Funny you forgot the episodes after the initial four which looked very lazily animated.
I love the fact that you ignore the majority of the show to pick out a few episodes especially when every episode has a lavishly well animated transformation sequence. And you have yet to provide evidence.
>It was a famous reputed studio doing it. Like Ghibli, it's an exception
Ghibli didn't animate the OVAs, animators from the studio worked on it you fucking idiot.
>That's retarded, considering the beginning and end of Armageddon had the best animation
Stone Sunshine isn't from the last episode. Once again you failed to provide evidence of low budget shots and ignoring all the well-animated sequences in the OVAs because your argument fucking sucks.
Being well above shit doesn't make it any less terrible also purposely ignoring all the good studios that worked on DP adaptions in the past kinda shits on your argument. Even Toei Mazinger at the time had good animation along with Grendaizer, saying DP adaptations are always low budgeted is fucking false and doesn't negate that Actas is a shit studio.
Oh boy you're a retard you know that?
I said the beginning and end are the best animated ones you stupid fuck.
Not to mention you cherrypick and post pretty much the best looking scenes in the series and ignore all the terrible ones.
