Anyways, Shingo Yamashita does some sweet-ass animation. I love the crispiness of his timing, and the way he can use smears effectively (like he did in Birdy Decode)

I'm not really sure how you are supposed to be more specific than that. You either see what they are referring to when it is in motion and agree or don't and disagree? I mean how much further can you break it down? It's not as if you are realistically going to do a frame by frame analysis and explain how each drawing leads to the impression you get. It is like looking at a piece of art and talking about what you think of it rather than an objective analysis.

It's the difference between talking about the piece and talking about the technique.

Of course, the better one understands technique, it's easier to see what an artist is going for and to get into their thought process.
