Really it is that late gainax crude puerile humour taken to an extreme in one direction and as it is an extreme you see a very polarized response not only because comedy tends to be dividing you either get it or you don't but just because it is also rather bizarre compared to whatthe anime community is used to, it is innovative and bleeding edge. It is really a love it or hate it thing expect much shitposting and reactions extremely positive or negative when it airs. I for one expect to love it.

If you show the character sheets separately to a person and ask them about it, they might probably tell you that those two are from different shows.
