Subs for the 3nd box of Kagura's Urusei Yatsura BD rip have been released. (eps 118-165)
Believe it or not, there's still an audience that consists of people who aren't retarded like yourself.
Urusei Yatsura is an anime that's aged magnificently well. It's better than any comedy anime released in the last 5 years.
Why is ED 2 so good
Because not every subber is in it for the e-peen and do it because they want others to be able to enjoy classics or more unknown stuff. Or money, either is probable.
A better question is why dumb assholes like yourself have an aversion to old anime, especially with glorious BD re-releases.
That's usually because of what a snake he is as opposed to pic related.
Because its a great and fitting song. A bit melancholic, a bit animated and with good rythm. Represents the fun a bittersweet misadventures of Ataru and the exoticism and innocence of Lum pretty well.
Also dat Lum dancing moves. Really, her dancing is part of what makes the OPs and EDs so great. Far better than the pop idol coreography we now have fucking everywhere since Hare Hare Yukai.
To make more room for Lum's delicious thighs.
Fug, I've been wanting to watch this for a while, but I guess I didn't realize how many episodes there are. I mean, I've got the space for these raws, but this shit is going to take forever to download a 2MiB/s.
I never actually got a chance to look at Rein-Force's rips. Kagura was just preferred by the person re-timing the subs. Kagura also has more seeders.
I am just about finished with the first BD box, absolutely amazing anime. I have read up to volume 9 of the 15 volume edition of the manga, so that I can see how the anime adapts the chapters, and I have to say, the anime just improves on it 100 fold, there is no comparison. The manga is good but the anime is amazing.
Pic related for example, they took this okay chapter about the cat lady, and turned it into an Ashita no Joe parody, and it was great.
Would you stick your dick in space crazy?
Ran is too real for me
>Trying to act all cut
>Is a giant bitch
Took you long enough!
Am I the only one who thinks the voice acting in this series is fantastic? Each one fits his/her character perfectly, and they all have a certain charm you just don't get these days.
It's refreshing to watch a series without hearing voices I've heard in about 50 different anime.
Well anyway, I'm really happy that I can finally watch the best episode in BD quality with subs.
I'm going to hopefully assume that the amount of seeders seeding Box 3 isn't the same as it was last week otherwise no one's watching anything.
Have any of the voice actors done anything major after Urusei Yatsura?
I know Fumi hirano has done almost nothing, and Toshio Furukawa has only really done minor roles. Well, not really, but much less than you'd think he would.
In any case, you're not going to be hearing much of Lum's voice outside of this.
Pretty much everybody agrees that everything about the anime is fantastic and something special. Urusei Yatsura was a cultural institution/phenomenon in the 80s, and then Ranma did it again. Rumiko pretty much had monopoly on everybody's hearts and dicks during the 80s. Maison Ikkoku was good too, even though it is MISUNDERSTANDINGS the anime.
I just quickly checked the episodes descriptions on Wikipedia to remenber about those eps.
25 to 28 were allright for what I remenber, I think the vampire one kinda sucked.
Now IIRC 29 is the first ep with a crazy long chase scene that will become one of the iconic feature of UY, It's worth it just for this.
Is ep 30 the one with the weird Kappa girl and the old salary man (or was it Ataru dad?) or am I thinking of another one. Because that one was pretty popular in japan.
Huh. There's a chapter later on specifically written to undo the whole "Shinobu confirmed to win in the future" chapter from early in the manga. That future is destroyed when the doors of time fall.
25 - I really liked the caterpillar episode. Ataru and Lum made for good parents.
26 - It's a Ten episode. What did you expect?
27 - Okay, I'll concede. This one was kind of a drag.
28 - Great episode
and I agree with Lum that babby Ataru is cute.
29 - See episode 26.
30 - Also a great episode.
Well I'm not correct then, since I was trying to remenber ep 30.
I think I do now, it's the one when Ataru refuse to give up the girl even though he is literraly dying of a cold, isn't it?
I'll never understand the hate for Ten. Every character is a jerk in some way but somehow people get mad at Ten.
Yeah he is an ass, but it doesn't mean he can't be fun. He is cute so he can get away with stuffs, which make other males mad, it's pretty much a looney tune character.
I think you guys are just mad jelly.
I over-exaggerated a bit. I don't particularly care for Ten but I think that's because I don't like most of the episodes centered around him.
For what it's worth though, I think episode 31 is pretty great.
Re-watch episodes 24 and 25, and you should notice my problem.
24 is the body-swapping earmuffs episode, and a perfect example of everything great about the series up to that point: great situation-based comedy complemented by snappy pacing and surprisingly witty writing.
25 is the caterpillar episode, and it's basically nothing but slapstick for the whole 20 minute duration. While slapstick has always been a part of the show, and was used very effectively up to episode 24, in this episode, it feels extremely dragged out and awkward. The segment where Ataru is running away from his classmates cue to slapstick should've only lasted a minute (as it would have earlier on); instead, it lasts about 10.
Episodes 26, 27, 28 and 29 suffer from the same problems: too slow and rely way too heavily on slapstick. 30 is good, but 31, 32 and 33 suffer the same problems. I remember the scene in the library episode where they're cleaning up the books; it just goes on and on and on, complete with painfully obvious recycled cels. Without the snappy pacing, the humor dries up fast.
I'm in the mid 40s right now, working my way to the first movie if I have the viewing order worked out correctly in my head. I love this show, and (some of) the funniest episodes I've seen recently are the ones clustered near and are similar to episode 42 (see >>123835546 above). By the way, do we have more screencaps of that episode?
Anyway, I'm glad I'm watching it; I even got the old issues of the manga when they were being printed in a fashion similar to comic books (in terms of formatting, sizing, and the fact that you read them left to right). I've done the same with Patlabor, Dominion/Tank Police, BubbleGum Crisis, etc. What convinced me to start into it was the fact that in Star Trek, I read that a ship was named after the show, and the fact that fans enjoyed it so much that they went to such great lengths to have it shown on TV stations abroad of Japan, like when an American group calling themselves "Lum's Stormtroopers" convinced a station in California to run the show. So worth it.
Ten is awesome, he's an ass alright, but he's "that guy." You know, that "hilarious ass" who can get away with things, fun to have at parties.
Shit was feelsy, too. And exemplary of the overarching attitude towards maturity in the series.
>Fuck Future Me, she's smiling in this one! Just, y'know, I'm not ready to make her happy yet. But I accept this inevitability! And I reserve the right to resist as hard as I can until it looks like I might escape!
Ranma reads like a Urusei Yatsura side arc. What IS wrong with you?
>You know, that "hilarious ass" who can get away with things, fun to have at parties.
You're using a way different definition of "that guy" than the one I'm familiar with. "That guy" is usually the worst possible person, that no one EVER wants to be and everyone hates.
>not watching your old anime on a shitty old blooming shadow mask CRT preheated for 30 minutes at 60hz poorly interlaced with mono audio and snow artifacts from the wireless transmission
It's like you don't want to watch your anime the way they were MEANT to be enjoyed.
Well then I can only suggest you to keep watching it at your pace.
You might hate some episodes, and love others, but that would be a shame to drop it.
Now tell me, what did you think about ep 13, specifficaly the eating contest. I remenber it being THE episode that I hated.
Sakura takes pills to supress her appetite and goes to an eating contest, then she proceed to eat tons of stuff.
I kept waiting for the joke and it never came.
But Ran is ok because she makes your dick hard I bet.
Never had the intention of dropping it; I just stalled.
I liked that episode because I love Cherry; truly one of the best old men in anime.
Honestly, after experiencing both, I think they're more or less the same shit.
Fuck you then. Ten is here to stay and
RAN A SHIT. A SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
But seriously where's the joke.
Cause I love the fuck ou of Ataru, with that mindset every episode is great. Guess that's why I don't have that much issues with any episode like you did.
but you're wrong
No they aren't. Honestly I don't understand why people say this.
UY, Ranma, and Maison Ikkoku reallt don't have that much in common. The style of humor is the same, obviously, they are written by the same person.
I don't know, to me they all feel like completely separate things. It is obvious that for Ranma Rumiko took some concepts and character ideas from Ranma, but I think they are both pretty distinct.
There is an occasional UY arc that feels like it could have been a Ranma arc (the introduction of Ryuunoske for example), but overall the content is just so different.
The fact that somebody could hate one and like the other is proof. Thing about Ranma is that everybody is an asshole all the time, in UY most of the characters are crazy, but not nearly as dickish.
And although it is obvious, the distinction of Sci-fi/Japanese Folklore and Gender Bender/Martial arts is pretty distinct too.
As for Maison Ikkoku, well, first off it is a lot less wacky and crazy. Additionally there is an actual, logical passage of time, and it has a lot less characters, and WAYYY more drama and misunderstanding.
>Honestly I don't understand why people say this.
Because she recycles certain character archetypes and it's very easy to see parallels in them.
Mendou and Ryoko vs Kuno and Kodachi for a very obvious example.
So this is never getting a proper Bluray Transfer right? I heard they lost all the original film or something.
>The fact that somebody could hate one and like the other is proof. Thing about Ranma is that everybody is an asshole all the time, in UY most of the characters are crazy, but not nearly as dickish.
What? If anything, UY's characters are much bigger assholes, while Ranma's had more stories showing them working together between their battles.
>And although it is obvious, the distinction of Sci-fi/Japanese Folklore and Gender Bender/Martial arts is pretty distinct too.
I reread Ranma right after Urusei Yatsura. "Ancient Chinese Legend" was basically a replacement for crazy stuff from space. The biggest difference are the few battle arcs, which have no equivalent in Urusei Yatsura. There's also the art style too, especially comparing the anime. Ranma's resembles more a generic anime.
>The blurays were a butchered upscale. What other explanation would there be?
Disney also butchered the Blurays of various classic animated films. Sometimes the people in charge of this shit are just dumbasses.
>Toshio Furukawa has only really done minor roles
Yeah how minor his roles are as PICCOLO and ACE from two of the biggest franchises in Japan that makes UY seem dwarfed in comparison.
From what I've seen The Sword in the Stone appears to be one of the ones that got it the worst, but others have similar problems, especially with being aggressively smoothed over.
Fuck. I will stand by my opinion, I don't really care. I think it is a huge disservice to UY to say it is pretty much the same thing as Ranma, at least as far as the anime are concerned, The UY anime took the manga chapters, and expanded them and made them better, it had some more mature, serious, actually emotional or romantic parts, it was full of references, the directing was fun and interesting, there isn't any of that in Ranma. I mean I liked Ranma, UY is just in a completely different league.
It's getting increasingly more common.
People's autism flares up when they see black bars on their screen.
Well, if that's specifically about the anime, yeah, I can agree there. Not only Oshii, even afterwards the Urusei Yatsura anime sometimes goes for an atmosphere and directing that stands out quite a bit, while Ranma overall has pretty mediocre directing.
>The UY anime took the manga chapters, and expanded them and made them better, it had some more mature, serious, actually emotional or romantic parts, it was full of references, the directing was fun and interesting,
But that's my favorite Disney movie. WHY?
Those fox chapters were in the manga though, they were just shorter, but even the manga clearly was attempting a different atmosphere there, with small amount of word balons and such.
>watching UY for the plot
I can't even imagine people doing this.
Urusei Yatsura is so chaotic and funny, I find myself flipping pages like crazy as everything comes to a disastrous crescendo. Very rarely do I ever think about plot. When I do, it's usually because of moments like this: >>123836582
It's amazing how everybody says that Ataru is a pervert but he is actually a really cool guy and the most normal from his group of friends, he just love to go out with girls.
You're the only guy who believes such thing, hell the christmas episode was the beginning of something perfect because it was one story in one episode and not two stories in the same episode. This also gives more liberty for the people who work in the show to make differents things because the have more time to fill.
He's really not shown as having any weird tastes and he's been legit scared and confused a few times when girls have said yes. He mostly seems to like just running from Lum and also giving her a reason to chase him.
Well everybody can do absurd things, like Mendou being able to endure things that would kill a normal human, or shinobu having an amazing strength. And according to Ataru he became more tolerant to the eletric shocks of Lum
Yep, he even says so in Beautiful Dreamer, without Lum chasing him, what's the point of getting girls. And we will never going to see this scene from the second movie. BRAVO TOHO
You know there's this show called Keroro Gunsou or Sgt Frog.
Episodes are made of two short stories most of the time, but they make it work by making some reference between them.
It kinda feels like UY sometimes, I recommend it.
That's just the manga and the fifth movie. Ataru from the anime already proved his love for Lum in the final episode of the Oshii run and the final episode of Yamazaki run, and in the second and fourth movie.
Ataru is a miracle of the universe.
Relax buddy, I just like the character. Even when almost everybody is an asshole to him, is a lazy ass in school, his parents a lot of times say that Ataru was a mistake and other things he still goes with a smile in the face, being a smartass who will always tries to go away with it, and having adventures with his friends, Lum, Mendou and more people.
>tfw I will never going to see Ataru having a relationship with girl Mendou
Time to became an hero.
It was kinda necessary to the existence of humans.
I don't know why, but for as long as I can remember the animation in the openings and ending to Urusei Yatsura makes me insanely irritated. There's no reason to it since they are all good openings, but I still can't get rid of this feeling. This has been going on for at least 10 years now and it won't go away.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
Since we're talking about Lum, does anyone know which episode is this screenshot from? I've been searching for a while but to no avail, google image doesn't help either
Urusei Yatsura was funnier than Nichijou, but Nichijou was pretty funny as well. It also doesn't just have funniness going for it but also all the cute moments as well. Combined with the huge production values, it comes really close to Urusei Yatsura for best series in my opinion.
What made UY was the swing between comedy, romance and then that slight melancholic tone it had.
Like that ep where Ataru and Lum help a crane, the beginning was just great, probably one of my favorite episodes simply because the atmosphere.
There are some episode that tease that he can make Mendou-like faces, and Medou is considered attractive in universe, but even when he does it he can't hold that kind of face for long at all.
I think the dumb faces are cute.
Ep 82 (105 in the BDs)
Is it worth getting the bd rips or are the dvd rips enough?
What group is good for the first two boxes or the DVD?
...195 episodes and however many movies... how much to I need to watch to be ready for the Oshii flick?
The raws have been out for quite a while. There is a guy that is re-timing the subs from the dvd rip to fit Kagura's BD rip. Like >>123856801 said, he is doing it at his leisure. I expect Box 4 to be done by summer, but don't quote me on that
If you have enough space, go for the BDs. They're beautiful. You are only going to be seeing LRE's subs regardless of which you choose.
GitS? SAC? Oshii?
>If you have enough space,
It's not a question of space, it's a question of dl caps. But it's probably worth magaing.
I've already got ideon, so with this I can say I've watched muh 80s anime. 195 eps seems kind of excessive, though. Reminds me of HnK
which I dropped around ep 90
I'm a little disappointed no one called me out on it earlier.
A lot extremely popular shows are like that. At least with Urusei Yatsura there's no actual plot. So don't feel like you're getting nowhere because you're actually already there.
>urusei yatsura bd-rips
WHY DID I NOT KNOW OF THIS
fuck, i need to lurk /a/ more often
is it still coming out?
>mfw 1080p beautiful dreamer
Tv series is A-ok though
Cutting shit to make it widescreen sucks, but I'd rather watch a cropped BD than a bitstarved DVD and/or bad encode (screenshots look like shit and it's 29.970 fps which is impossible unless either DVD or encode is fucked up).
Goddamit, I only saw the first 3 episodes.
This is gonna take me 5 years to finish.
anyone got these in BD quality?
Why exactly are you not watching the glorious BDs?
Just download the BD and do it yourself, no?
I should, I guess. But I only recently downloaded all the DVD rips (including the OVA's and movies) and it's nice to have it in uniform quality.
And since I'm watching it on my old CRT TV (for authenticity purposes), DVD quality is good enough,
Have you been to Ba(h)ia?
Wish these had came out literally a few weeks ago. Just finished this series recently with those crappy dvd rips and I don't feel like going through that 195 episode behemoth again right away.
