>The effect of Shingeki no Kyojin has truly worn off at Production IG as they record major losses

>In the year of 2014 they lost 190 million yen, and in the first quarter of 2015 alone, 79 million yen. This is compared to how they gained 390 million yen during the year of 2013

>IG port companies such as WIT Studio have also suffered losses

Where were you when IG died?
>>
At this point it's probably for the best.
>>
>>123818554
Any reasons given? Anyway, a year in the red won't kill them.
>>
>>123818576
yep
>>
>IG port companies such as WIT Studio have also suffered losses

It's all Japan's shit taste's fault for not buying Rolling Girls.
>>
>>123818589
Their TV series' didn't do well on BD sales if my memory serves correctly. The newer GITS movies barely broke even also.

Though, yes, since they are years ahead of their time, one year isn't that bad.
>>
>>123818639
bullshit, they've just been following trends for a decade
>>
>>123818554
I'm not freaking out; they'll be fine once SnK comes back into circulation, especially with the big hole being left by Naruto finally being wrapped up (unless Fairy Tale is it's official Big 3 replacement, I wouldn't actually know)
>>
>>123818554
>WIT Studio have also suffered losses
Well, what they have expected after one show, that should have been pander to fujos, but had only 2 male characters with barely any screentime together and Rorring Girrs, which is just plain shit.
>>
>>123818639
The fact they broke even at all is disgusting, terrible terrible movies.
>>
>>123818698
I'm really hoping newer movies have better story to tell. I mean, it wasn't shit at all, but it lacked what made GITS, well, GITS.

Hell, I think manga spinoff delivered better. Which is sad...
>>
Maria isn't probably going to sell well but Kuroko's Balls should sell fine
>>
>>123818698
>>123818728
We at IG appreciate your feedback, the new incarnation of GITS will be filled with nothing but females doing cute police things.

Probably not far from it happening
>>

Shouldn't all the fujo sports shows be making them heaps of dosh? Hell, even Psycho Pass sold relatively well.
I would be extremely surprised if IG dies before Manglobe
>>
>>123818554
But Haikyuu did well
>>
>>123818554
What the fuck, this is the studio that does SnK, Psycho-Pass, and Kuroko? Are they making poor business decisions or something? I could have sworn those were doing very well. Are the other projects doing so poorly that it affects them that much?
>>
>>123818906
The P-P movie grossed about as much as the Haruhi movie. The BD sales should be good as well but probably nothing spectacular.
>>
>>123818728
Ubukata is writing new movie so your hope is pointless. If IG is still giving him opportunity to work on gits there is something really wrong going on.
>>
>>123818906
>>123819353
SnK was years ago, and you're overestimating the sales from the sport shows. I mean, they're probably the only ones making a serious profit, but they apparently can't carry the company by themselves.
>>
Fucking how?

Haikyuu sold okay if I remember so did PP even though its dogshit, Gargantia did okay too.

Maybe they're just putting much more money than needed.
>>
>>123819588
Also Kuroko wasn't even for sale in 2014.

>>123819626

Haikyuu sold extremely well. Even Volume 9 sold 20k.

The problem is whilst Haikyuu and KnB sell well, they're still a Shueisha property, so IG isn't getting most of the profits.

This. The shows where they were part of the production committee like Maria didn't do so well.

Never said it wasn't.

As video sales go, both the retailer and the distribution chain pocket 40 to 60 percent of the sales price. Then the production committee divides up the amount percentage-wise. Production I.G. is most likely the same as other studios and doesn't pocket the entire remaining portion of video sales. Most studios negotiate for a percentage share of profits from the production committee which means the remaining portion of the video sales money then goes to the production comittee. The committee then portions out the money to each member according to what they negotiated.
>>
>>123820011
If they could still make something as good as GitS SAC, then Arise would have been it. But it wasn't, because they can't. This isn't a matter of being willing to make good anime or something.

That's funny. Imagine being in their place and expecting them to turn a great profit just because it's GITS
>>
>>123820147
Why do you think there's so many mecha anime originals?
>>
Don't know about Japanese company income tax law, but around here, corporations pay taxes on a quarterly basis while individuals pay income taxes on an annual basis. A business can defer a year while prepaying an estimated amount. If so and if japan is the same as here, then perhaps production I.G. deferred the prior year into 2015. If so, then to maximize the deduction, the current quarter should have both the biggest writedown losses and expenses shifted into it to reduce the deferred taxes. I.G. could have done that too.

>>

In adaptation, studios work as a subcontractor and they get the money from the committee. The risk that they shoulder is failure of payment (for this they can sue), and/or the opportunity cost of not working on better works.

>IG Port Announces Extraordinary Losses Due to a Bad Debt of an Anime Movie.IG Port, the parent company of Production I.G and XEBEC, announced extraordinary losses of 201 million yen ($2.22 million). 72.6% of the losses has arisen from the allowances for bad debt: IG Port failed to collect the payment from a producer of an anime movie, which XEBEC is partly involved in. The IR report didn't name the title of the movie.

Toei makes crap animes and get tons of shekels. Production IG should take a note.
>>
Too many people download or stream anime online vs. buy it. And no I don't buy the argument that if you download the anime it gives you more incentive to buy it later. Yes there is now legal streams but people use adblock and you know that it cannot actually get as much money as a sale of a dvd, blu ray etc would be.
>>
>>123818554
The can always try and secure themselves the SnK sequel, that'll bring in more dosh, surely.

Nevermind, it's apparently already scheduled for 2016 under WIT. So, nobody dies just yet.

Psycho Pass has been a pretty decent success, in terms of sales

I guess the new GITS isn't doing too well
>>
>>123821320

I never ever said Western market in my post. That said, yes, if the Western market bought more than they downloaded then it would mean more money. Look at the number of downloads next time you go to download or stream....consider that every one of them is maybe $10 or so if they had bought. It ADDS up.

>>123821286

There's tons of avenues for Westerners to buy as well. Are you saying that the reason people download stuff like SnK is because its not marketed to Westerners? HUH?
>>
>>123821624
GITS doesn't do well because the new GITS looks nothing like the old and well-loved GITS. It just looks like a different show that happens to share a name and cast names.
>>
>>123821684

How do you know? Either way, a lot of people do watch those streams, wherever the views are coming from, even for many titles which have an official English release. So yes, that means less money for production IG. I have stream episodes with over 1 million views before. Into the tens of thousands even for obscure titles. Wow.

Yeah tons of avenue to purchase garbage such as SnK. Also the elevens outright ignore western sales.
>>
>>123822294

How do they ignore Western sales? Do they refuse the money? I bet not.

And like it or hate it, SnK is a big hit and has a lot of views/downloads and it is one of Production IG's shows. So yes, go find how many views it has on streams and how many downloads it has, multiple by about $10/episode or so. (I think that is how much episodes used to cost pre-internet).

That is how much money they would have. Don't know if its West or East but cold hard cash always speaks the same language.
