Man, I'm so conflicted about this show. The girls and the MC are great, but the 'fights' are...Well, they're terrible. They spend more time explaining the magic system than actually doing anything with it.

The LNs are a canon spin off series that fills in certain gaps in the manga and gives more information and character to and about the cast. It's a lot more detailed the manga so it's pretty great.
