What if Isla is already past her termination date? It would explain why would that female boss be against letting her work again, since she wants to hide that fact and probably save her life. It would also explain why Isla sucks so much at her job, even though she's a veteran - her memories got fucked after the termination date, and she forgot all those years of training/working.

Well, it's better to have SSDs with some-what persistent write limits than have HDDs that can randomly fail at any point in their lives.

The writing is really weak and the jokes seem so forced and on such a low level. First we get this gag with the veteran girl promising an ace up her sleeve and then showing up with tea and snacks each day and getting rejected every time.
Then, as you mentioned, the painfully overmilked banana peel gag right after that choppily animated jumpgag.

One thing I did like was the emotional departure of androids from their families. The first time this happened with the old couple and what appeared to be their "son" was very touching and sweet. However, the second time around with the child and old woman was just more of the same if not pertaining to less of an impact. If this is the show's ace then I'm sorry to say that it's already getting old.

Finally, we have this "really emotional" scene where we're supposed to feel engaged with some random character introduced just minutes before without giving any background (They use these really cheap tricks of having a cute girl with a cute voice crying to sad piano music).

This then ends with a fucking piss-gag. I am probably getting too rustled but damn, who thought that it would be fitting to do that?
In the end, I was left disappointed. After hearing about who is the director and writer, I genuinely expected better writing with a more comprehensible plot and more creative characters (We have annoying tsundere girl; quiet, cute doll girl; fiery red-hair girl etc. etc.)

I will give the show a chance and watch at least another 3 or 4 episodes but currently it is, at best, average.

There's a much more metaphysical and philosophical question here though of what actually gives Giftias their souls, and whether it can just be moved and copied like digital data. If we could recreate the exact same composition of molecules as you, would that be you, or something completely new that just starts identical to you? Or is there something more to your person than that?

Hopefully they'll get into discussing the notion of cloning in there as well, this is a pretty natural lead-in conversation to that.

There is absolutely no way it's a traditional bug; it would have been caught and repaired by now. It's more likely that the souls are actually some sort of science-magic that degrade over time, but a more logical explanation would be that there's a certain capacity for how much memory can be processed by their personality algorithm before stuff needs to get thrown out to make room for new data. This is slightly different from storage issues, because if they increased the capacity to process information there would probably be a performance hit (perhaps to the point where they can't simulate humans at a reasonable speed). There's probably a few other similar explanations.
But really, it's just magic.
