Haruka's disease sounds like the type of cancer my one cat was killed by. He wouldn't gain weight no matter how much he ate, and would sometimes have seizure-like episodes. Also, his mother having it too could have compromised his genetic health, which is why he got it so bad despite being so much younger.

Are you talking about when Shintarou's power talks to him? The snakes tend to take on a different form when talking to their hosts. With Shintarou, it takes on the form of Ayano. Shintarou and Ayano are much closer than Shintarou and Haruka.
