Uh huh
>>123120880
She also took down a highly advanced labor on a rampage and saved the pilot trapped in it using some climbing skills and a shotgun. She also had little trouble taking down an attacker wielding a knife if you want a TV example.
>>123120880
>a great protagonist needs to be a flawless person who never fucks up
>>123120997
Unless it's Onii-sama, it's not a good protagonist.
>>123120880
>Fairly small woman was overpowered by a fairly large thug when ambushed
Your point? Her job is to pilot labors, not be a SWAT officer.
>>123120782
I think that Mai is a great protagonist. She has an appealing personality as she is kind and polite but nonetheless shows mental fortitude and determination, never acts stupidly, is adaptable and is fairly competent, thought not overwhelmingly so as she doesn't always succeed and does need the help of others.
And she shows development over the course of her series. She's cast out of her family and sent off to a boarding school, which results in her ending up in a completely unfamiliar situation (as she had been quite sheltered) causing her great distress and feelings of abandonment. However she's able to adapt to her new circumstances, make friends and she accepts and makes peace with herself despite the fact that she had been rejected by her father. And in spite of all the difficulties and internal conflicts she endures, Mai is able to remain cheerful and kind towards others.
>>123121035
She was literally trained in judo
>No MajorFair enough, since she's the least interesting member of Section 9.
>>123121074
Best mom, ever
>>123121167
Reminder that the Major is literally male.
>>123121173
But that's wrong.
She saved the season.
>>123120782
Who said it was, simpleton?
>>123121199
No she's not. In the original manga she has an orgasm when in a lesbian orgy. Batou who accidentally links to her brain at that point has a really weird sensation because his brain is male and cannot properly interpret the stimulus. Therefore Motoko has a female brain and was originally a woman.
>>123121320
>it's one of those "T-THE MAJOR ISN'T A GUY" fags
haha, what's the matter, tripfag? afraid you're homo now?
>>123121362
Here's your reply.
>>123121320
>Being this delusional
Nothing wrong with her brain being male, genderbender stuff is pretty nice but that's just a case of Batou not being used to it.
>>123121579
There's clear proof in the manga that she's female and in the series there are flashbacks to when Motoko was a young girl. Do you have any evidence that can be used to back up your assertions?
>>123121663
No, he doesn't. So stop replying to obvious bait.

I really need to watch DECODE. I keep forgetting it exists. To me, Birdy the Mighty has always just been "that pretty decent OVA I used to watch on Showtime."
>>123122283
Nothing! But in this modern age when it's one or the other, a woman that is 'just' pretty is a rare gem.
Legitimately the most entertaining comedy protagonist I've seen in anime.

I liked Kill La Kill aside from a slight loss of interest in the middle, but Ryuuko is hands-down the worst part of the series. She didn't even have a consistent personality- it just jumped around to whatever the plot needed it to be at the moment.

That wasn't the point of that scene. Motoko pretends to be completely detached from her body and passes it off as if she only uses it because it happens to have the specs she needs, but Batou says that if that were really the case, she should use a male body since they're stronger. He knows her better than that.

His and Her Circumstances was surprisingly good, considering that it's not my genre at all, and it had a Gainax-sized budget. I keep forgetting it existed, though.

I'm the opposite, I've seen the 1st season and part of the 2nd but I've yet to see the OVAs.
>>123124977
They're okay. They're not bad or anything, but aside from the body-switching there's nothing to really differentiate it from other action anime OVAs of the era. There's a reason nobody talked about Birdy the Mighty until DECODE started airing.

suzumiya haruhi no yuuutsu, like citizen cane is a biopic about a character through the perspectives of other characters, the protagonist is kyon, but the anime is not about him, in this case the protagonist is merely a tool to better illustrate the plot, which is haruhi.
