Yeah the first episode made me expect some kind of incredible fairy tale romance or something, and it felt like movie quality, or at least a lot better than most TV anime.
Unfortunately the rest of the series rarely reached that height, but it was still alright.

This is the one anime that will save us all

It's a great anime, really enjoyed the east/west social commentary.

The quality seemed to go down a bit after episode 8 but I sincerely thought that the writing and animation were well done.
It's definitely the dark horse of Summer 2014 and I'm glad Madhouse is doing more shows like this and I'm pumped for Ore Monogatari.

The first episode was easily the best one, the finale was great as well. It was overall pretty enjoyable but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would or as much as I even wanted too.

Wonderful show, but the threads were horrible.
One of half the population was constantly complaining about the harmless little drama stories that all got resolved within two episodes, the other half was whining about the design of their eyes.

It was not, it felt fitting for girls at that age.
But many people were expecting something along the line of Gochiusa and Kinmoza with dancing, so I can understand they were disappointed.
I'm just angry they continued complaining with every episode instead of either dropping it or accepting the show as it is.

Being fitting does not necessarily make it enjoyable for the target audience. It's difficult to sympathize with and like someone who does like Yaya did and yells at their friend for not having done anything wrong. Perhaps you're right, though. I personally came in expecting something similar to GochiUsa after seeing it discussed in some of those threads. Maybe that affected my perception; however, I'd like to think I'm judging those parts on their own qualities.
