What does /a/ think about Kino's Journey? I went in expecting

I've been putting it off because I can't decide whether to watch it or read it first.

It's good, but somewhat overrated on /a/. It has a nice atmosphere, but the characters and stories are a bit simple for the concept. Haven't read the LNs, though.

Wish the art in the show was closer to the LN though, but that's only a relatively small complaint.

Yeah, but folktales are usually something that is talled, while anime is visual medium which automatically conveys more information. What works in fairy tales or legends must not necessarily work in anime.

I'm not saying I didn't like it either, but it sometimes felt a bit "empty" to me. Maybe the LNs would work better. I think the content might be something that is better told than shown.

Or a live action movie even, if they get Shigusawa to write/supervise.

I'm probably the one who's reading Sigsawa's works backwards instead of starting with Kino.

As awesome as a second season would be, I wouldn't count on it. From what I've heard, S1 didn't exactly sell well.

Squad morale restored. There has to be at least one more season's worth of material in those 18 chapters.

I'm halfway through Volume 1 in Japanese and it's a blast to read. I'm happy to hear that I have more to look forward to.

There's literally enough material for several seasons at this point, anon, even more so if we include the spin-off where Kino's a high-school mahou shoujo with a machine gun and Hermes is a talking phone strap.

She's still popular enough to make it in that Dengeki Bunko fighting game, if only as an assist.
