Problem here is that /a/ generally overstates the importance of vocal range (mostly because it's the easiest aspect of voice acting to recognize/appreciate) and completely ignores every other aspect of voice acting.

There are a lot of people in the industry (males in particular) that have a limited range and yet excess in other aspects of VAing, like comedic timing or really getting in-character.

People like Chiwa and Aoi Yuuki who both have a wide vocal range AND are excellent performers are few and fair in between.
And even when you have someone with crazy range, after a while you can recognize them by the pitch of their voices. (Akira Ishida comes to mind.)
So yeah, range isn't all that important.
