Jesus was judean, meaning he belonged to one of the tribes of isreal (tribe of judah).
At the time, judaism did not exist, the isrealites were Yahwist.
These isrealites were descendants of jacob, the son of abraham.
Jacob's brother, esau (who was the father of the edomites), intermarried with canaanite women.
The pharisees were a mix of edomites and canaanites, and they wrote a book called the talmud, and their religion was called talmudism, and jesus denounced these people, saying "ye are of your father the devil."
The followers of Jesus Christ were known as Christians.
From 700-1000 AD the khazarians (who were turkic merchant warlord people that worshiped snakes and phallic symbols) decided that they wanted to convert to one of the three religions (see: king bulan), and they chose talmudism, because it did not denounce their ways of finance and usury and as such they saw as the most useful to them (pagan logic I know).
The khazars then intermarried with talmudists of edomite/canaanite stock as well as the slavs and armenians since they conquered those regions at one point.

This multiethnic group became known as the ashkenazi, and they call themselves jews but are not judean.
In 1604 king james commissioned the KJV which translated the term "Judean" to "Jew," and this pharisaic talmudism became known as judaism.

Protestantism barely exists in anime, and when it does, it's almost always Anglicanism, which is just Catholicism Lite. Face it, Catholics are just much cooler. You just can't have a seemingly endless number of secret, militant church organizations with Southern Baptists or Methodists.

In an early episode of Big O when Roger investigates power outages in a nearby city and is told by the locals that the cause is the wrath of a vengeful god, he says that he's no atheist but still finds the theory not even worthy of consideration. He also prays for deceased innocents a couple times and says grace before eating. Though considering where the series goes in the last half, it's hard to say what exactly he believes anymore.
