In reality Digimon recolors do the opposite. They originally started to pad out rosters for the early Digimon Story games since recoloring a Digimon was way easier than remodeling them.

Or from what I remember from the dub anyways. Entirely possible my brain is misremembering things.

Also preferred the dub's picks for Mimi's and Joe's crests. Felt better than Innocence and Sincerity, respectively.

Seems like 02's overHATING around here has reached a point where people are even skipping the whole season. No matter how bad people SAY it is, this is not advisable.

There are good things about 02, you might like some digimons, some particular story lines and arcs (which will lead to either nothing or will be badly developed or contradict previous stuff) and even the soundtrak which is pretty good.

People should watch 02 if anything to understand why people criticize it so much. It's a mountain of missed potential but it could be enjoyable for plenty of people, the same way it likely was for most people who actively criticise it.

It also brought DNA-Digivolution to the front and that was also neat as all hell.

A lot of the point in 01 was that the kids were chosen because they best exemplified certain traits, and they were at least partially aware of Digimon.

Same thing with 'Oh look, American Digidestined!' which while cool, sort-of spat in the face of the chosen ones. I'm aware that kids have been picked before, but to show them all within roughly the same generation? The fuck?

Dark Ocean is neat, as is the nature for a lot of Lovecraftian stuff, but stuff like that could've been unveiled in Tri and been the primary source of conflict, of which Tri appears to be sorely lacking.
