It's a doujin by Yuuki Homura, the guy who also does the currently running manga adaptation of Infinite Stratos. It's actually pretty good (relatively speaking), since it tweaks the material in general (and Ichika in particular) in little ways to make them a bit better. It's the closest we're ever likely to get to a halfway decent take on the series, at any rate.

He had some character to him in the first volume or so, then the anime simplified him into a one dimensional archetype to better pander to their audience of people who get pissy if they don't see the same thing over and over again. The harem itself, the actual girls, is fantastic. The show and LNs are absolute trash.

The harem aspect of the show utterly refuses to progress, and even any non-progression appeal scene a girl starts to have is immediately ruined by the girls dropping character completely to go into Status Quo Police mode. Then you have to wait two more episodes before you get anything else, because the series can't make up its mind on what genre it is so we have to deal with some of the worst mecha action and terrorist intrigue plots ever conceived instead of more of the harem shenanigans that people actually watch the show for. Plus throws some of the most tired, awkward cliches at us and is entirely serious about it.

The World Purge OVA was the best thing to come out of it since the first season, and everything that happened in it was just an terrible excuse plot to cram the harem into VR so creepy fake Ichikas could get rapey with them. That shouldn't be one of the franchise's better moments, but it is, because everything else is so horrible.

Plus a solid third of IS's runtime is montages of panning still shots, which happens particularly often when it's in harem mode.

World Purge was kind of jarring, since it follows novel stuff that straight up didn't get included in the anime (they wanted more harem stuff).

And the best part of world purge was the Chifuyu fight. The rest was unfunny fanservice comedy bullshit that was pretty clearly written into the novels in the first place in the hope that it'd get animated.
