I really want to like it but fuck this character is such a beta little shit
I was able to deal with it in Hitman Reborn and in The Breaker so why is it so irritating here? I'm on chapter 4, please tell me he grows at least somewhat soon.

Chapter 4 and already complaining? How about you shut the fuck up and find out yourself by reading the goddamn manga

brother, I also agree with you. But don't mess with those boku no hero academia autists. I made the mistake of lightly criticizing Betamax over there in one of their circlejerk threads, and got dog piled and gang raped for having "newfag taste" and was essentially told to fuck off. You're right, those guys are a bunch of elitists who think they're better than everyone else for having max-power levels. Even worse, they think they know what's best for the board and backseat mod like crazy. fuck them.
>>
Boku no academy It's not that good. All it has is interesting looking waifus and shounen jump protagonists out the ass.

Kid's a fucking sissy 99% of the time when he's not doing plot punches. Cries more than a toddler.

I guess it's still better than most of the shit out there.
>>
>>122593001
I dare you to post that in one of the boku no academia thread. Instant butthurt, and they think you're just a pleb for not reading enough manga to know what's good or bad LOL
>>
An entire thread to be dedicated to complaining about a fanbase complaining?

Neat.

Honestly, I agree with >>122592288. Reading less than 4 chapters and then jumping on /a/ to complain about the initial state of a protagonist in a "growing up / how I became a hero" shonen is pretty retarded. I honestly don't know what you were expecting. But if you give it time, I doubt you will be disappointed in the protagonist's progression. Even in the first chapter Midoriya is shown to be brave and action oriented when it counts. It's not like he's Shinji. Go read One Punch Man if you want a protagonist who is neigh invincible and comical from the start.

Spoilers to follow:

>Constantly breaks multiple of his own bones thanks to his quirk - never cries or complains about it
>In dicey situations, manages to keep a level head and formulate effective plans, both in student competitions and against real life villains (where his life and others were on the line)
>Charges headfirst into danger to save others, such as All Might, and even people who constantly bullied him and put him down, like Bakugou
>Gets /fit/ by his own merit, has an extremely good work ethic
>Gains the respect of most of his peers, gets elected Class President, but instead gives the position to Tenya, deeming him more worthy of the position
>Etc etc... He may not be the most hyper-masculine protag, but he's no sissy boy

>>122592653
>>122592857
>>122593100

While that anon's tone certainly had unwarranted "edge" behind it, their point still stands. Go read 4 chapters of any shonen, then make a thread complaining about the protagonist and see what happens. The Boku no Hero Academia community certainly has its autists, but that's true with any shonen that gains popularity. It's definitely not the worst. Not by a long-shot. The only people who seem butthurt here are those saying "PEOPLE IN A BNHA WEREN'T NICE TO ME!"

Do you even know where you are?

I was being serious. the first post you could say somethings about, but the other people making their meta-complaints sound valid to me. People on /a/ are quick to tell people to fuck off if they say something that gives any indication of not being a seasoned regular here.
>>
>>122592164
What the hell is the point of reading something then asking people if the main character changes at all? Keep reading and find out. One of the best parts of reading something yourself is watching the characters change over time. Why would you want people to give you all the answers instead of finding them yourself?

Nobody said anything about people being "retarded" for having bad taste. The only person who mentioned it was >>122592857, and they were complaining about a reaction they got in another thread.

If anything, >>122593127 said it right. The only retards in this thread are those complaining about a fanbase complaining. And you, under the misplaced logic that this is somehow about being quick to criticize taste. Aren't YOU being quick to label people elitist? Gee, I wonder what /a/ would do without you? Hypocrite.
>>

You do know the whole point of the lurkmoar rule now do you? You are bound to get flamed if you post something stupid.
>>
>>122594542
Do YOU know what lurkmoar means?
I've been here on /a/ for years, but there are lots of manga and anime I still don't know about.
Lurkmoar doesn't mean you're not allowed to talk about a genre unless you've read every other series in the genre to make the best judgment in your opinion. When fags on /a/ start telling people to fuck off for not reading enough, that's called being an elitist prick and an autist. It's not a surprise this sekret club meme is still around since many people here clearly won't accept you until you've read and watched everything they have.

Get some sleep anon, because you are a little grumpy and i think you need it.
>>
>>122594375

Do you really want this place to turn into Reddit? /a/'s board culture isn't peaches and cream, but it exists for a reason. It's not elitism, it's trying to teach people the ropes the same way we all had to learn in the beginning. And guess what? If it doesn't jive well with somebody, they are free to leave and go some place where people are more accepting.

The trade-off is that that kind of place is going to be infested with the same "stupid" questions over and over, day in and day out, recommendation threads, etc. People on /a/ got tired of that, and thus things are the way they are now.
>>

>I'm on chapter 4
>Expecting massive character development in 4 chapters
>In a shonen manga
Found your problem.
>>
>>122594722
>>122594758
I'm learned how to speak the culture on /a/ years ago, but I still see all the time in threads, especially the 24/7 "generals", that you get "flamed" like crazy if you say something that somehow indicates you didn't "read enough or watch enough" stuff. It's literally the "tumblr" or "reddit" effect in which regulars on /a/ refuse to allow anyone to post an opinion here if they are new and quickly assumes it's someone from another "social community". It just pisses me off as /a/ doesn't have a good rep at all here.
>>
>>122594632
Why would you even judge something based on the fucking first chapters anyway? That in itself is stupid. How is telling someone to fuck off and read the rest of the chapters a sekrit club mentality? The fucking manga has 34 chapters, you have no excuse to try and catch up. In fact you deserve to get flamed for butting in a thread ,where people have been discussing the subject for quite some time now, if you show up trying to act high and mighty when you don't know jack shit since you haven't caught up to the manga.

Posting things like these:
>HURR DOES THIS MANGA GET ANY BETTER HALP ME IM ON CHAPTER 4
>HURR I DONT LIKE MC AND IM ONLY UN CHAP 4 HURR
Is bound to get you insulted because it shows that don't have the attention span to read a 34 long ongoing shonen manga
>>
>>122594955
You seem to be having a mistaken identity problem here. I wasn't talking about the OP post at all. I don't know why the fuck you would mention him.

But that brings a good point here. suppose OP had read all the 34 chapters and then made his talk about not liking a character or whatever. I guarantee you, he would still get flamed for having a "stupid opinion" since /a/ literally is a hivemind (especially in certain manga) and autists would start saying "Oh, that guy is probably just a newfag who only reads naruto, so that's why he gave such a stupid opinion!" That kind of attitude is complete cancer that will slowly implode /a/ after all the newfags get scared off.

Well to be fair it is kind of a stupid opinion to claim that the MC has not changed when he clearly did. It doesn't take a genius to see it too.

I'm assuming you are OP? Yes, he really is kind of annoying at the beginning. But that changes really quickly and you'll find yourself pretty surprised.

Not reading or watching enough shows is not a crime on /a/. No one gets insulted for saying 'I haven't seen this show, but i might watch it soon'. There's a reason backlogs exist, and the simple fact that it isn't feasible to ask every /a/non to watch every episode of every anime.

>>122595063
If OP had read all 34 chapters he wouldn't have had to start a thread to ask if it got better in the first place. That is the only issue here.
If he had a complaint against the character and he HAD read all 34 chapters then it would be warranted and there would be discussion.

Instead of discussion we have people crying wolf and playing a victim when there is none.

No it isn't.
Speaking about anime and manga that you have not watched is a crime, and even then typically only in the threads they concern. You aren't going to get flamed for saying 'i haven't read Yan-dere' in a Boku no Hero thread.

But if you go into a Boku no Hero thread and say 'I haven't read this but this character is stupid' is asking to get your face kicked in.

If you have ever had /a/ attack you its because you need to lurk more and learn what not to say and where to not say it.
>>
>>122595407
Criticizing something which barely have any knowledge about while acting like you are on a high horse is grounds enough for you to get flamed.

Criticizing a the community itself will get you flamed right away. To them you are a outsider that is acting like a prick.

Alright, guys. I won't talk any more on this, but all I'm saying is /a/ is really quick to jump on someone for saying something "stupid". Waaaaaay more than the other boards here on 4chan. It's like going to an "X club" and you say one word about "X" and all the regulars there start heckling you like crazy. It's funny because I know this is 4chan and all and it's to be expected, but in the real world this is called being a douchebag. If someone is talking shit, then yeah, he deserves to be insulted. But if someone new is just saying something nicely and autists start saying "go back to tumblr" that's fucked up. This shouldn't be a common occurrence, but it really is.

ANYWAY, that's just my opinion as a faggot who really needs to spend less time on /a/. I've talked long enough about this stupid shit, so I am going to bed now. goodnight guys.
