Tatami Galaxy is a fantastic anime but dicks like you make the people who like it seem like smug faggots.

In actual fact, the message of the anime is about as simple as it gets. Tatami Galaxy's goodness comes from how enjoyably that message is conveyed through the show's humor and great cast of characters.

No Anime is for intelectuals. If Big Bang theory was an Anime, then maybe.

Yes, hell it was even explicitly stated in episode 9. The MC spent all of his time obsessing over how his life could have turned out and what he believed he deserved that he was unable to enjoy what truly matters: the here and now. In the last to episodes, after choosing a safe life with none of the other characters in it he began to see for the first time how rich his 'other lives' had been.

Essentially the 'message' was: don't dwell on the past, make the most of your life now. At least, that's my take on it.

What I took from it was that, in our lives, we're only able to have one perspective, so our perception is limited to the experiences we have and the biases we form as a result. A lot of that is emphasized through the characters. They're not dynamic characters (meaning they don't change through the series), but they still receive development because the protagonist starts seeing different sides of them. I'd say it's something intellectuals can enjoy, since it actually has themes that it spends time building up in order to deliver. It's an extremely existentialist text, and it leaves viewers with plenty to discuss. Of course, it's not necessarily "for" intellectuals. It can be for everyone. It's smart, but it's straightforward. You don't have to be a fucking Mensa member to enjoy it.
