Not that anon, but here in the states, Dragonball wasn't released until the early 2000's. It was skipped not by choice of the viewer but by US companies. Personally I loved it, it answered a lot of questions about the series I have always had.

I found Muscle Tower to be a lot of fun in the manga. The Red Ribbon saga as a whole is easily my favorite in the series.
I've never seen the anime version though, and considering how it's Toei shit pacing isn't much of a surprise.
